2 CHAPTER DIRECTORS NOTES JAY & HARRIET Mine goodness but the weather this month has been horrible. The snow was so heavy that we cancelled the February afternoon ride. Then it got so cold it reminded me of the temperatures from years ago. But it did warm up enough that I could ride to the Gathering, it felt a little strange being back on the bike after not having ridden sense January 5 th. I must say it was nice getting back on two wheels. Can t wait, until I can put more time in the saddle. We are thinking about where we want to go this year and what we want to see in the area we are riding to. We are even thinking about next years possible destination. I think the planning of a trip on the bike is part of the fun. I and some other members are even thinking about a couple of Iron Butt rides. I am hoping for a good riding season! I am hoping that I can get an ARC (Advanced Riding Course) in before the riding season gets into high gear. There will be TRC (Trike Riding Course) courses offered as well. Well enough day dreaming about riding, I will get to the real thing shortly, I hope. So, coming up we have the Afternoon ride on the 6 th, they will be leading us to Elie s in Hudson. Then on the nd and 3 rd will be Winter Rendezvous. I believe anyone who goes will have a good time with all the activities that are on the schedule. There will be discounts to some local attractions, and some have discounts for us to see their exhibits. For those who attend, we ask that once you decide what you want to do, and the classes you want to attend, see if there might be some time you could help with the game tables at registration. The March Morning Ride is open, if anyone wants to set a destination, or has a suggestion as far as where to go, please let me know. There are a lot of open slots on the ride schedule. Please think of some place you would like to the Chapter to go, like to Chicago for Chicago style Pizza, or Detroit for Detroit style Pizza. If we went to both we could compare and determine which we thought was best. I have we do like to eat. Or let one of the Team know about someplace else and we will see about getting it on the schedule. Does anyone have someplace you would like to ride to, or for an overnighter? I am sure there would be some who would like to go there as well. If you don t feel you want to set the route, nor want to lead the ride, there are several Road Captains who would be willing to give you as much, or as little help with the planning as you want. The planning for this year s Spring Wing Warm up is well underway. It will be May 0 th and th. Wing Ding will be In Nashville, TN from August 7 TH 3 st. FRIENDS FOR FUN, SAFETY & KNOWLEDGE

5 INDIANA DISTRICT EDUCATORS RICK & DEBBIE WARMELS -5 Frick n degrees! Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? I try to ride all year but that s just too darn cold! So I get to walk by my bike on the way to the car to go to work. Not the way I like to start my day. Talk about depressing! sigh Well there are things we can do as we impatiently wait for the thaw. One of the things is to check out our gear. The last thing we want is to get a nice day only to find out our gear shrunk over the winter! Let s start from the top and work down. Helmet Check it for visible signs of damage. It doesn t take much of a hit to compromise the integrity of the impact absorbing material. Check the manufacture date. Manufacturer s recommend replacing their helmets every 5 or so years because the impact foam starts to break down. Do a clarity check on your visor and clean/replace as necessary. Give your helmet liner a good sniff test and give it a wash if your eyes start to water! Jacket Make sure it still fits! Check the armor for signs of breakdown. Make sure all the zippers, snaps, and Velcro are in good shape. Give it a wash to make sure the reflective materials can be seen. Make sure it s not ripped or torn. Gloves Make sure your fingers aren t popping through and are completely covered. Make sure they re tight enough to stay on during a get off. Check them for cracking and getting thin. Make sure they re still comfortable and you can work all the controls. Pants Make sure your riding pants can still be buttoned and zipped up! If you have riding pants, make sure the armor is still good. Check them for cracking and getting thin. Make sure they re still comfortable and you can work all the foot controls. Boots Check the soles for wear and cracking. Same for the uppers. It s a good time to re-apply water proofing and put a coat of polish on them for protection. Make sure they still fit so you can ride all day in comfort. Rain Gear Now s a good time to pull it out to get some air. You can also check for rips/tears and make sure it still fits. Better to find out now before you need it! If you get your gear all cleaned up, checked out, or replaced you ll be all set for that first warm day (at least double digit temps!) to get our bikes out and hit the road! 6 CHAPTER GATHERING MINUTES Chapter U Minutes February 4, 09 Opened with the Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of guests: Todd Kollman, Renee Browning, Rodney Lemish, Bob Eymer, Duane Ewell & Sharon Crager. Past Events January 9 Afternoon ride Jay & Harriet Cancelled due to bad weather. February Morning ride Tom & Teena Went to the Cracker Barrel in Auburn. 0 people went and they had a good time and good friends. Upcoming Events: February Michigan Wingless Weekend, Houghton MI February 6 - Afternoon ride - Marv and Judy, Eli s in Hudson, IN (used to be Dillinger s) February 3 - Winter Rendezvous Shipshewana, IN - Theme for Winter Rendezvous is Snowbirds. A few exciting things are Time Out trailer factory tour, escape room; Menno Hof; RV museum; Amish farm tour; Teaberry wood products; Heritage Ridge Creamery; goody store; craft seminars (Jinger leading one) Euchre tournament; silent auction; seminars (Harriet is leading one); memorial table; chapter table contest; door hanger contest. Rules for the Chapter Table contest, Door Decoration and additional information are listed in the newsletter. We are in charge of small games entertainment table for both days. Sheet was passed around to sign up for hour blocks. Harriet asked if anyone had any ideas for the Chapter Table Contest and that we could get together to discuss. March Morning ride - open. Benefit of the Chapter or the Members: Nick told about his use of GWRRA rescue plus. Duane talked about upcoming Spring Warmup.
