The first frost has given us some pretty hills to ride through if you are brave enough to handle a little nip in the air. Chapter M started October out with a great chapter gathering and ended the month handing out candy at the Arrowhead Mall in Muskogee. Chapter M has participated in the Halloween Candy Run sponsored by the Guard Dogs Bike Club and Road Track and Trail the past few years. We passed out candy to super heroes, princesses, skeltons and witches. There must have been over 700 kids there this year. Alligator Bill Rhodes had all the kids wanting to have there picture taken with him. I don t know about the kids but Chapter M had a wonderful time. On November 5 th Claremore and Wagoner held their annual Christmas Toy Rides. Those Chapter M members that were free to ride that day were Ed Mason, Joe Pusch, Kim Swope and yours truly. We had a really good time joining all the other November 2017 OK Chapter M P a g e 2

There were over 150 to 250 motorcycles at each of the events. Everyone brought toys for all ages and canned foods for the area food banks that provide Thanksgiving dinner for those that need a little help during the holidays. If you ever have the opportunity to join one of these rides I whole heartly encourage you to attend one and you ll be hooked. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends. Be careful out there. Look twice save a life. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. 5 Ride Coordinator DECOMPRESSION RIDE Earlier in October, I had been getting close to overload and decided that I needed some road therapy. I called my Son in California and asked him what he was doing? He said he was in between shoots and asked what was up? I told him the meet me in Albuquerque in two days. Off we went on a decompression ride. We met just North of Albuquerque and planned our impromptu ride. Around Alb was the balloon fest, the Nuclear power museum, the singing road, and the scenic by-pass. Did them all. The singing road was cool. If you drive at 45mph the road sings the beginning of the Star Spangled Banner. The scenic bypass had Maggie s Diner, which was in Wild Hogs. Come to find out it never was a diner, but a prop built specifically for the movie in a vacant lot. We drove right by it but found it on our return through the town, about a quarter mile. Cool store and bought some Wild Hogs memorabilia. On to Santa Fe. Did a ride through Red River Ski area next. It was just as beautiful as it was coming back from Billings last year. With that loop behind us we headed North to Durango, CO. Rode through some super scenery on the way and we knew we were pressing our luck with the weather, but pressed on. We checked out some narrow gauge railroads that warrant a return trip just to ride them. Good destination ride for next year. The Aspens knew we were coming and put on a spectacular show just for us. The most beautiful yellows and golds. Couldn t have planned it better. We heard about the million dollar road from the locals in Durango, and had to try it. WOW! 78 miles and 273 turns. Holy chicken strips, that was a cool ride. Lots of 10 mph switchbacks, no guardrails, and from 4000 feet to over 1300 feet and back down several times. We stayed in Silverton, CO at 9800 feet. A little Motel with 50 s era furniture. A true step back in time, and a tee shirt for my Son from the highest Harley Davidson Store. No bikes but just clothing. On through Colorado, but south this time. Twenty-six degrees when we left Silverton. Next stop the Four Corners Monument. Checked that off our bucket list. Not much there, but worth doing just to say you ve done it. Headed down Arizona 191 toward Tombstone. Got to Hwy 40 to spend the night and found a motel right at the intersection of 191 and 40. Cool Asian family running the restaurant. A little girl came to get our drink order, and I queried if she was old enough to work here and she said she was seven and held up 7 fingers. She was sooo cute, and all of them had beautiful smiles and acted like they really wanted to be there. Very refreshing. Went back for breakfast and left them a big tip. On to Tombstone. We stumbled onto to Coronado Trail. Holy crap, Batman! It follows the mountain ranges in Southern Arizona, and that road will give a snake a backache. Close to 200 miles of twisties to test your skill, and some of the prettiest country that I have seen. Five hours later we went through the November 2017 OK Chapter M P a g e 5

6 largest open copper mine and that was an impressive end to the day. I was worn to a frazzle, but found out an old Gold Wing will lean over a lot further than a Harley without dragging. Thank God for my Drill Team Training. That road should be on the top rides in the country. Longer and more technical than the Million dollar highway, and get gas on either end (that s NOT just a hint) Tombstone was a hoot! Stagecoaches everywhere and everyone in period costumes, or maybe just normal wear. Everyone was carrying hoglegs and fifteen gallon hats. We ate at Big Nose Kate s Saloon. The REAL Big Nose Kate s, not a reproduction. That was the coolest eatery I ve been in in a long time. Tombstone was playing on a big screen, and all the waitresses were dressed up as saloon girls. The men s room alone is worth the trip. Another destination ride. We split up the next day to go East for me, West for him, and it must have been the sun in my eyes, cause my eyes were watering for the first couple of hundred miles. Damn, I love that kid. Wandered across Texas through Lubbock and stayed in Lawton, Where we will be having our Oklahoma District Rally next year. Lot s of cool stuff there. A real neat wildlife refuge there with bison, longhorns, elk, deer, antelope, and bobcats all over the road. Came home after that. Took a scenic road up to 40. The bar must be set pretty low to get on that list. I think that a curve, a hill, and a tree will get it qualified miles, and in a lot better mood, I rolled into the driveway. Ready to go again. November looks to be at least a 4000 mile month but this one will be in the Silverado. Looking out for places to go Dr. Ed November 2017 OK Chapter M P a g e 6
