2 Graham Reynolds President s Pen THE BEST WEEKEND FOR THE CLUB SO FAR IN 2010! Well what a huge weekend. It started early for me hosting the 14th Annual Variety Lunch to the benefit of sick, disabled and under priviliged children. With a massive result raising $78,000 for the cause. The association of the Lilydale Football Club with Variety Australia will do well to lift our profile in the community. Thank you to those who came along to support the day. From a Presidents point of view to field three teams for three wins its about as good as it gets. Firstly our Colts who seem to just keep getting better and better, and a very spectacular win from our reserves, then to our seniors with a convincing victory. Congratulations to each and every player as I know it was put to you how important it was for your club to produce your best on Saturday. Saturday night saw the team of the decade presentation celebrated at the Twisted Vine and from an eye witness account all seemed to be going extremely well. Congratulations to the Falconians, in particular to Gerry Toohey to pick up this event and to call and compare as Ian McCallum was a late scratching. So a great way to lead into another super important weekend for the club with the hosting of the Presidents luncheon along with the annual presentation of the Bowman Medal. Also please be aware we are hosting finals for juniors this Sunday and next Sunday. We require committee players and supporters to volunteer to man the club on these days. Please see me or the committee Thursday night if you are able to help out. U13A U12A Page 2 The Flanker is prepared and edited by Gerald Toohey (aka Fathertoosa) lilydale@efl.org.au Page 31

3 MATCH Round 13 U14A I 2 3 Q 4 STH CROYDON LILYDALE Simon Rourke Club Coach BEST: D Breese, M Hottes, J Roach, J Taylor, B Neagle, S McDonald GOALS: D Breese 5, R Breese 2, J Roach, A Davies, M Hottes, 1 each U14C PROGRESSIVE GOALS: D Toohey 15, M Hottes 15, D Breese 14, M Baxter 11, R Breese 10, J MacKay 8, B Neagle 8. The game was played in terrible conditions at South Croydon. Kicking against a strong breese in the first quarter the boys held them well to be 2 goals down at lemon time. The second quarter was a slog and by half time we were even with them. In the third quarter we kicked 3 early goals against the wind to set ourselves up with a 6 point lead going into the last with the wind. In the final quarter we finished off well kicking 4 goals to nil to achieve a great win in a superb team effort. 1 st Twisted Vine Award: Daniel Breese 2 nd Warburton Golf Award: Marcus Hottes 3 rd Award: James Roach Rocco s Raffle: Player Daniel Breese Winner: To be advised Calcutta Player: Daniel Breese Owner: Rocco Pompei Page 30 Page 3

Atrocious conditions at South Croydon made any type of running football near impossible. It was very hard to describe a match played in this environment but we won and came away with no new injuries, and that s important. We kept working hard together and staying positive, more disciplined and ended up with a good win. 7 With President Graeme Donald Presidents Report: The season has come to a close with 3 teams making to finals, the under 13s, 14blue and the 16s. Unfortunately the 14 gold played off for a spot in the finals against 2 nd spot Coldstream but they were too good for the boys. We wish the teams all the best in their finals campaign. I hope everyone can get along and support the boys with their club apparel on. It will definitely spur the boys on. It was fantastic to see so many families at our last awards night. There was a few Chardy s and Frothies consumed over the night and a good night was had by all. Presentation day has been organised for the 22 nd of August at St Patricks Community Hall Jones Street Lilydale. Likewise we have set a date for Registration Day November the 21 st at the Gateway Reserve. We will be sending out notices in the mail soon. We need to get as many players along so let all your friends know. A big Thank You to all our hard working Committee members and Parents who helped out during the course of the year it has been great. Cheers Graeme Donald LILYDALE MATCH Round EAST R WOOD John Gordon Under 15 Coach BEST: Phill Muscara, Brad Clark, Ryan Donald, Sam Morton, Jake Clements, Shane Richards, ENCOURAGEMENT: The Whole Team, Train hard in the off season stick together and hit next year with all guns blazing. 9 It is interesting to note the EFL report on match day Yellow/Red cards issued so far this season. We have had 4 in the Seniors, 7 in the Reserves and 8 in the Colts for a Club total of 19. The average for first division is 3.7, 3.3, 3 and 10. Although they are all Yellow cards the mix is interesting. We have been pinged for 1 obscene language, 1 abusive language, 2 wrestling, 2 striking, 4 rough play and 9 misconduct demeanours. We have had 7 weeks of match suspensions. While it different with each case, perhaps there is a trend which we as a club must strive to reverse. It takes a fair bit to control the tongue and temper but in the long run it shows greater character and does us more good in the image our club portrays. So lets see if we can improve during the rest of the season. The Team of the Decade was a good turnout with everyone enjoying catching up with old mates and celebrating 3 wins. But Fathertoosa was floored by the reply Daniel Breese gave to his question on which was his favourite position. Congratulations to all the members of the Team of the Decade. The full side is on page 22. Of the 24 named in the side, only 4 were not able to make it with Lucas Skelton being the most dedicated having travelled from Vietnam for the function. Apparently a few of the lads headed out Sat night after the TOTD to Daisy's which is over 28's. Young Baldy got in at the ripe old age of 20 while Dan Toohey got knocked back. After the game Sat night Bob Brown was one of the last to leave the Sth Croydon rooms only to return to his car to find both a window and rear vision mirror smashed. Had parked his car out on Eastfield Road. Good sports! There is still a number of players who owe money for membership even though the season is 2 thirds of the way through. Playing for your club is one thing but supporting it is another. If you are one of the players who have not paid please see Luke Ewart to rectify. Graeme Donald was filling up with fuel last week and saw a bloke having a heart attack. Graeme s wife Meaghan came to his aid and performed CPR. SCORE BOARD Round 14 LILYDALE COLDSTREAM BEST: Lochie F, Billy L, Brandon P, Jake E, Riley G MATCH GOALS: Lochie F 2. Kane H 1 Rhys Healey U14 Gold Coach It was a very hard task for the boys today. We started off well and played hard tackling footy. The ball movement was great and our risk taking was awesome. Unfortunately we couldn t keep up the pressure and hard work going into the final quarter and the cold got the better of us as they blew out kicking 6 goals to nil in the last. To my boys this year I would like to say congratulations on a fantastic year to each and every boy. You played with heart and determination every game. Good luck in the future Flanker: Brandon Cafe: Keenan Confectionery Award: Patty Page 24 Page 9

10 MATCH Round 14 Ash Beckwith Under 13 Coach LILYDALE ST SIMONS BEST: Dell, DeFranceschi, Toohey, Ryan, Gilbert, Wood, Haskell, Halse, McNay MATCH GOALS: Dell 5, DeFranceschi 5, Haskell 3, Mutsaers 1, Gills 1, Toohey 1, Ryan 1 SEASON GOALS: DeFranceschi 4,1 Klep 31, Gilbert 16, Dell 15, Beckwith 14, Wood 13 Todays game was more about preparing ourselves for next week and getting through unscathed. We started strongly and dominated possession only to miss many shots due to the tough conditions. DeFran was everywhere up forward and finished the game with 5 goals while Fraser had his first chance to rest at full forward while not in the ruck and also kicked 5. Jordy relished the opportunity to go forward again and kicked 3 due to the great work by the midfield in Toohey Halse McNay and Wood. The boys finished the game well kicking 6 last quarter goals including a cracker from Brad Ryan from the boundary. Congratulations to Riley Morris and Brad Ryan on playing their 50 th games. Now where at the business end of the season and the boys finished 2 nd on the ladder but we need to play well over the coming weeks to progress deep into the finals. 11 MATCH Round 14 LILYDALE BLACKBURN Mario Gallucci Under 12 Coach MATCH GOALS: Jordy 1, Harry 1 SEASON GOALS: Jordy 12, Correy 7, Ben D 6. It was a great effort from the boys today. Although it wasn t the result we were hoping for after, the application from the boys was first class. We had winners all over the ground but none better than our midfielders lead by Gossy, Jordy and Gia. We witnessed some fantastic work from our backs. I would like to give a very special mention to the 50 gamer DUCK who has a heart the size of Phar Lap. If these boys can train hard over summer and get a bit fitter they will challenge next year. I would like to give a BIG THANKS TO MARIO, STEVE, DARREN, MEGAN, KELSEY, TRAVIS, RYAN and DANIELLA for their support throughout the year. 12 MATCH Round 14 MATCH SNAPS STH CROYDON VERMONT Peter Skewes Under 11 Coach LILYDALE BEST: Blake Hughes, Kyle Skewes, Josh Serci, Shaun McMillan, Lachlan Morris, Bayley Sciortino, Daniel Thompson ENCOURAGEMENT: Caleb Serci Jack Williams, Jesse Wyatt, Luke Falkingham, Josh Whelan, Peter Nouk. MATCH GOALS: Luke Falkinham 2, Bayley Sciortino 2, Daniel Thompson 1, Blake Hughes 1, Kyle Skewes 1 SEASON GOALS: Blake Hughes 10, Bayley Sciortino 8, Daniel Thompson 7, Connor Hartman 6, Baxen Valoa 4, Lachlan Morris 1, Fynn Sainty 1, Luke Falkingham 4, Shaun McMillian 2, Caleb Serci 1, Josh Gray 1, Jack Williams 1, Kyle Skewes 2 The boys didn't come fully switched on for the start of the game and with Vermont kicking with a very strong wind, they jumped us early and lead at quarter time. After the first change, and now kicking with the wind, we started working our way into the game but we still left to much of the work to just a few and allowed them to kick a vital goal into the wind. We went into half time with our noses just in front. At half time we had a good look at the way we were going at the ball and the contest and to the boys credit came out with a great approach in the second half. We asked for a 30% lift and everyone responded and more. The pressure and tackling was fantastic and we showed the same spirit we had the week before against Chirnside. In the end we ran out winners by about six goals and was a very rewarding way for the boys to finish the year. Even though it was a tough year for he boys (and coach) it was still very rewarding to see the boys improve and grow as a team. Considering we had six boys playing their first year of football and another two new to the club, we can only be excited going forward. Thanks to all the parents for their support and lets look forwards to season The Flanker Lachlan Morris Confectionery Caleb Serci Video Ezy Daniel Thompson, Jesse Wyatt, Jack Williams. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Debbie Ebert on tremendous job as team manager along with all the support staff.
