Doors open at 6:00pm Meeting Starts at 7:00pm June 12th SDA Port of San Diego Kids Fishing Derby J St. Pier, Chula Vista June 17th SDA Twilight Charter #2 June 26 SDA 3/4 Day Charter Seaforth Sportfishing Mike Lackey, Owner and Operator of the Vagabond, was born to charter boat captain Weldon Lackey, so he didn t have much of a chance other than to grow up sportfishing. He has run sport boats from here to Morro Bay, half day and long range. He has loved fishing since he was a little boy and got his captains license the first day he could at age 19. Since 1990 Mike has been on the Vagabond, as a partner in 2002 and then becoming the sole owner in Mike loves fishing! All kinds! He was even a fly fishing guide one summer at the Rail Road Ranch on the Henry s Fork River. He recently got back from fishing El Salto Lake near Mazatlan. He states: Yeah, I have the best wife that puts up with me, my job, hobby, and other love (2nd to her but it s close)!

2 Upcoming Charters June Friday evening June 17, 6pm. Twilight charter on the New Seaforth - 6pm. $10 adults, kids FREE, non-member $20 if there is room. June 26, Sunday-3/4 day trip on the "San Diego"- passports are required as this is scheduled to be a yellowtail, Coronado Islands trip. Limited load 30 passengers, $100 for club members, (non-club members extra). FMM and Mexican license are not included in this price. At the time of this article, the cost for the FMM permit is in the neighborhood of $20-25 and a one day Mexican fishing license is about $ July Friday evening July 29, 6pm Twilight charter on the new Seaforth 6pm. New Seaforth boat. $10 adults, kids FREE, non-member $20 if there is room. Sunday July 31. 3/4 day trip, on"vendetta" at H&M landing. Limited load 12. Passports required on this trip. $140 per club member, (non-club members extra), plus FMM and Mexican fishing license. See above for pricing. August Sunday, August 28-3/4 day trip on "San Diego". Passports required again. This is scheduled to be an offshore trip but IF the fishing is slow or non-existent, we COULD go to the islands, thus the passport requirement. Limited to 30 and the cost is $110 for club members (non-club members extra), plus permits and Mexican license if needed. See above for pricing. Aug day trip on the Success. 3 ***Lake Morena Campout Reminder*** June 3rd 5th **We have a few Extra Spots** Call Tim Macauley to get in (619) This weekend is the Campout, grab your gear and come out for a weekend of fun and relaxation! Start your Friday evening with at BBQ at Tim Macauley s campsite #14 (please feel free to bring your own drinks, perhaps a side dish??). Saturday at 11:30am will be our 4th Annual Horseshoe Tournament with a $10 entry fee and a $5 jackpot per team and prizes for the winning teams. Saturday Afternoon at 2pm we will have activities for the kids. Saturday evening at 5:30 is the big potluck. The Club provides the meat, BBQ Mike will be back to BBQ for us, and each family brings a side dish to share. After dinner join in at the campfire for Rooster, rooster, little red rooster and smores. Sunday morning will be our annual Waffle Breakfast. VENDOR SPOTLIGHT The San Diego Anglers would like to welcome Gonzo Ortiz and United Composites to be our June Spotlight Vendor. We are not the biggest, nor are we the fastest, however; we are fisherman designing and manufacturing goods for fisherman right here in the U.S. We are as proud of our work, as we are of this country. 4 Twilight Trip #1 May 20, 2016 Friday evening May 20th brought about our first Twilight Trip of the season. A mere 36 San Diego Anglers boarded the New Seaforth looking forward to a great evening of fishing and swapping fish stories. They weren t to be disappointed! The skies were grey and there was some swell which might have scared some of our anglers off but the fish were very willing to bite! Boy did we have a good time catching Barracuda, Bass, and Rockfish! Wrapping up the evening we had some very competitive juniors looking forward to winning the top three prizes. When all the sorting of catches and weighing was done, our first place winner Brandon Robeson with a lunker Tree Fish received the grand prize of $40. When asked what he was going to do with his cash he replied, Spend it on fishing tackle. Of course, what else! Second place went to Dillan Robeson for $20 and Third place went to Kevin Bayne for $10. Our next Twilight is on June 17th. Don t miss out on the fun. Members are $10, non-club members are $20, and Juniors 16 and under are free. 5 San Diego Anglers Summer Bar-b-que at De Anza Cove 2016 Saturday, August 27th will be The San Diego Angler s annual Summer Barbeque at De Anza Cove starting about 11am. For a day full of fun including our 3rd annual casting contest, volley ball, lawn games, strolling along the boardwalk, lots of visiting, and of course great food! The Awesome Barbeque Mike will join us again to cook the meat. If you haven t sampled Mike s cooking, just ask anyone that goes to the Lake Morena campout, IT ROCKS!! The club will provide the meat and drinks. All you need to bring is a SIDE DISH if your name begins with A-M or an APPETIZER or DESSERT if you name begins with N-Z. Don t forget your Lawn chair. Charter Reminders We are asking everyone who has signed up on our upcoming charters to please bring some sort of payment to the June meeting (cash, check, credit or debit card) to pay for your spots. If you can't make it, please call Dwayne to make some sort of payment plan ( ). In order for our charters to work, we need to get payments before we depart. We had quite a few no-shows on our first twilight charter which really hit us hard financially. Thanks for your understanding on this matter!!! Warriors on the Water On Father's Day, Sunday, June 19 th, 2016 The San Diego Anglers will be taking a group of 25 wounded military out fishing. A huge thank you to Mike Lackey and Vagabond Sportfishing for donating the Vagabond for this trip! We are taking a group from Balboa Hospital this year as well as from the Aspire Center (a half-way home for combat veterans with PTSD). A big Thank You to all of you that have donated to the pass around jar and in other ways! Your money is helping provide Visas and food for the trip. Anglers will be acknowledged and awarded for these catches at monthly membership meetings. Weight receipts received prior to the 10th of each month will be published in the monthly newsletter and awards presented at the next monthly meeting. PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR AWARDS: Submit all weight receipts within 30 days of catch. 1. Weigh your catch, any scale known to be accurate may be used. 2. Very Special July Guest Speaker Travels with Graham Mackintosh The Baja Storyteller Mackintosh s four books and thousands of seminars have earned him the role as Baja s most acclaimed adventuring icon. His words and humor that relived his memories, his pictures that showed Baja s kindly and generous strangers and his descriptions of unexplored Baja like a simple meal shared on a remote beach drove many to explore the undeveloped, under explored regions of Baja. Save the date--- Saturday July 9th If you volunteered for last January s Open Bay Bass Tournament, then you are invited to the OBB Volunteer Appreciation BBQ at Mike Kezele s house in Santee on July 9th.
