They started out fishing lakes, then moved to bay and inshore fishing. His passion for the sport developed very quickly and his young life seemed to revolve around it. Rick became a fan of Let s Talk HookUp and when he had to interview an expert in a field of his chosen topic for an 8 TH grade English project, he called Pete. This led to Rick getting the opportunity to fill in for the vacationing phone screener and Rick eventually moved into the position full time. During this time Rick was hired by Fisherman s Landing Tackle, where he has spent summers and weekends learning all the techniques of the tackle trade. Rick has moved up to be assistant manager of Fisherman s Landing Tackle. Rick s passion for fishing continues as he pursues every opportunity to fish for anything that swims as he regularly fishes local Southern California lakes, bays, coastal and offshore. Rick now looks forward to every weekend so he can share his knowledge and enthusiasm and continue to learn along with the many fans and friends of Let s Talk HookUp on the Mighty1090AM. It was a two day event, we fished it on Saturday at the 425 area. Our first target fish was Dorado - after a few patty hopping we picked up our limits thinking nothing of it we starting working towards the high spot we put out the trollers for Marlin. Within 15 min we had one on...jon reeled it in and we landed the striper. We continued to troll to the north for about twenty min and then came back around to where we caught our fish, on the very same spot the clicker went off and I was up. I caught my first Marlin and released it so we were pretty stoked. The banquet was on Monday where john Ashley announced that I got first place and Jon got second also Jon got first place for his Dorado at 16.8 lbs and I got second at We took the whole enchilada. We fished on a 26 ft skipjack up against the big boats and it was one of those trips where everything went according to plan and we just had pure luck on our side. Regards, Tony Souza

3 "WOW" = Warriors on the Water September 10, 2015 SDA's took a wonderful group of wounded warriors on our fourth and final WOW charter of 2015 aboard the Eclipse sport boat, out of Seaforth Landing, ower/operator Mark Gilette and Chris Switzer. A big thanks to Mark and Chris for cutting us a special deal, allowing us to fit this charter into our budget. A shout-out to Mr. John Yamate of Seaforth landing for providing rods and reels for each WOW at zero cost! Thank you, "Big John." We have many people to thank for making these four charters possible. First off, without our own San Diego Anglers' members this would have been impossible. Thank you to all who volunteered everything from cash, prizes, and their time. I will mention as many as I can recall. Should I leave anyone out, please forgive me but know that your help was much appreciated! Our fourth and final charter of 2015 had a much larger group of members, club supporters and tackle shops who stepped up to the plate big time. 1. Out of State member Dave McMullen with Ocean Science International wrote SDA a check to cover the cost of the charter. 2. Member Roger Lamborson, on an evening when Debbie requested of members anything in the way of cash or prizes be donated to the cause, Roger went to Deb and said "let me know what your total is and I will match it." 3. Member Joe Tickey arranged just short of a 50% discount with Subway and they built us 75 6-inch delicious subs. 4. Hoen Vision, Member J.D. donated sunglasses, hats and T-shirts. 5. Oakland Raiders donated "collector" memorabilia, hats, shirts, key chains. 6. Ed Hansen, former owner of Ed Hanson Custom Muffler (now retired) gave six rod and reel combos, assisted on the trip. It must be mentioned that he is a major support to our troups, and I mean in a BIG way! 7. Diamonds, Ltd. 8. Koa Saechao, active military and SDA member, gave a rod, beautifully customed wrapped by him with decals of wounded warriors on the base of the rod. Just beautiful! 9. Art Hill Guide Service donated a fishing trip valued at $ Fisherman's Landing Tackle - Thanks for all of your help, Doug Kern. 11. Jeremy and Shelly Wilcox 12. The Kohlemans 13. George Mannschreck; my hero. Keep on keeping on. 14. Rudy Garcia 15. "Tabu Sushi" gift card 16. David Chavez - our own VP who gives and gives. 17. Debbie Patenaude - SDA's hardest working mommy and who I affectionately refer to as "Debbie Sue." 18. Alan Branch, SDA member 19. Bobby Rollins, SDA member There must be more that I'm just not remembering, but trust me, your help did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated! Last but not least, our wounded warrior contacts at Balboa Naval Hospital, USN NAVMEDCEN SANCA, Jackie Myers and Jessica Piñeda. Without these fantastic ladies this enterprise is a "no-go." So, Thank You!! Last word: I had a very special feeling being a part of all this; seeing smiles on the faces of these very young men and women who gave so much to our country. We all owe them a debt of gratitude. I say, let's do it again next year!

5 3/4 DAY CHARTERS We had 2 charters in September, one on the Vendetta and one on the San Diego. With the fishing starting to slow down for the tuna, the call was made to try the un-fished Coronado Islands. FMM were purchased and down we went. Since no one had been fishing the islands for awhile, Captain Ray Summers had to try and get it figured out. We cruised down the island chain searching and stopping at all the normally good spots. A few bonito and yellows were caught throughout the morning, but nothing really exciting, until we hit the south end of North Island in the mid afternnnon and there they were! The anchovy chum was tossed out and the water exploded with yellows and bonito everywhere. Bait, flat fall lures, iron all worked and we stayed with the school until we ran out of bait late in the afternoon. And if my memory serves me correctly, we ended up with about 40 yellows for the 12 passengers on board with Gloria catching the largest at 23 pounds! Trip number two on the San Diego was pretty much a repeat of the Vendetta with us finding the yellows in the same spot at about the same time. Lots of yellows and big bonito for everyone on board until we run out of time. The only difference was our little detour that we made first thing in the morning. On the way down and within about 1 mile of North Island, Captain Taro called me to the wheelhouse to ask a favor. A pod of killer whales had been sighted about 2 miles to the west and was playing with one of the other sport boats. Taro said he would add more time to the end of our trip if we could take a little detour. Knowing that is was a great afternoon bite, we jumped at the chance! As he bent the boat to the west, all eyes were glued forward looking for Shamu and his friends. 25 minutes later we found the pod of killer whales and they did not disappoint at all. Normally when we see the Orcas, they are very shy and avoid boat traffic, but these animals were very different. They came right up to the boat as Taro slowed it down to an idle. They played in the bow, swam under the boat inverted like blue angle fighter jets and gave us plenty of photo ops in the crystal clear, flat water. After about 25 minutes of picture taking and the memory cards full, we left the whales to get back to the business at hand, finding the yellows. We pretty much did the same thing working our way to the Rock Pile for just a few fish. While at the Rock Pile, Taro noticed the conditions suddenly changed (water clarity and current direction) and said we should take advantage of the change and get back up to the islands. The spots that did not have any fish on them earlier, suddenly had yellows and bonitos! We worked our way back to the magic spot of just a few days before and pretty much had a repeat with one exception. We had more time!! Reluctantly we pulled away as the sun was heading down with a boat full of fish and pulled into the basin at Seaforth landing at about 8:30 pm! We really got our moneys worth that day and thank Taro for the wonderful day with the whales!
