The dinner begins around 7:00 ~ Dinner will be provided by Robert and Jim Kinsey. ~ From the Bridge Hello everyone, Well sorry I missed the last meeting, had a pretty good excuse. My son Tim graduated in Stockton as a peace officer and the ceremony was not to be missed. Any way thanks to Bill for covering for me. March Charter: Our first trip of the year was cancelled. I guess the Hustler had been dry dock for almost 2 months getting new engines, deck redo and some other things. Unfortunately the coast guard didn't get down for final certification. So listen closely please. Everyone who was on that trip has first shot for April 8th. Please let me know if you can't make it. I have a waiting list. July 2-Day: I need to get those of you who want to do the two-day. We are limiting it to 16 fishermen. We will definitely The Totoaba fishery was based in San Felipe. Demand for the delicious fish led to overfishing. Authorities banned Totoaba fishing in Baja in the 70s. (thanks to Bob Tuttle for sending these related articles.) -Ed Plevack be looking Tuna/Yellowtail on this one. I definitely need to get a solid group to make this a go. Please see me at the meeting. Sometimes boat retrofits take a little longer than expected. The fishing is a typical spring time offering of Reds, Lings, and Whitefish. You know, your typical Bottom grabbers. The news out of San Diego is sounding pretty encouraging though. Kelp patty Yellows and a sprinkling of those finicky Blue Fin. That said I'll see you all at the meeting! Think Albacore!!! Tight Lines and Screaming Drags Your Friend - Bill Vaquita on the brink of extinction: Only 30 of these smallest of all whales remain in the wild. Vaquita are only found in the north end of the sea of Cortez. The population has declined by 90% in the last five years. The primary cause of death is Vaquitas being caught in the mesh netting used for the illegal fishing of Totoaba. Despite a ban on all gillnet fishing in this region, fishermen still risk jail time to make money in the lucrative black market for Totoaba swim bladders....(continued pg. 5)

Lynn Freed has been shopping for club prizes at LA Rod and Reel. Got some nice 2 sided tackle boxes. The WVSC Swap Meet was interesting. There were only 8 sellers. More club members are definitely needed to make this event more successful in the future. Todd Stetz won the Gold Ticket which gets him a free spot on an upcoming Club Charter. Floyd Lovejoy won the reel and some sinkers and jigs. Don Heim (stock photo) won the rod. Other raffle winners were: Todd Stetz-lead heads, swimbait, and 20 lb. Floro line. Lynn Freed-pliers set, Bob Tuttle-hooks and line, Harold Guy-sinkers and jigs, and Ron Kadonaga-sinkers and jigs. Totoaba: (also known as Totuava) have been protected in the Sea of Cortez since Recently a patrol boat found a gill net with 66 dead Totoaba. Illegal fisherman and the Mexican criminal cartels target the Totoaba just to export its swim bladder for sale on the black market in China and Hong Kong for unsubstantiated medicinal properties. There it can fetch more than $20,000 per kilo. Due to this high street value, the Totoaba bladder is frequently referred to as "aquatic cocaine" and today is the only reason these animals are being killed.
