3 GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to the 20th annual BMWGA Myrtle Beach Golf Tournament! We are so excited to host you at Sea Trail Golf Resort. This year s tournament sold out in just a few hours! We will have our largest gathering at 275 registered attendees. We appreciate your passion. Mother nature has thrown us some interesting weather in this last year. Your hard working 2018 BMWGA Myrtle Beach Committee is rolling with the punches and doing their best to show you a good time! This year we honor Mattie Peterson and Beulah Moore. These ladies are two of the early pioneers who started this gathering twenty years ago. We hope they are pleased to see what their friendly gathering of golfers has become. I want to honor and thank the 2018 BMWGA Myrtle Beach Committee: Twanda Mickle (Chair), Adrienne Malvin, Melody Mixon, Stacey Terrell, Joyce Evans and Margaret Bolden. These ladies have worked tirelessly all year to create an event that allows us to enjoy golf and each other. Be sure to let them know they are appreciated. 4 SPECIAL RECOGNITION th ANNIVERSARY TRAILBLAZER AWARD The Browns Mill Women s Golf Association was established in 1996 by a group of 8 ladies who took a major step toward making golf more accessible, welcoming and inclusive of women of color. Since that time, the BMWGA has provided a consistent opportunity for African American women to experience and enjoy the social, recreational and competitive benefits of golf. The BMWGA founders, including Robin Simmons, Mary Allen, Kim McLean, Evelyn Cummings, Yvonne Garrett, Beulah Moore, Mattie Peterson, and Gloria Walker, were not only interested in growing the game locally, but expanding the reach of play and exploring surrounding areas. As such, Beulah Moore and Mattie Peterson, took it upon themselves to initiate a fun golf trip for the ladies to explore Myrtle Beach, one of the golfing capitals of the world. The initial trip in 1998 has become an annual tradition and 20 years later, we celebrate this amazing journey by reflecting on where we have been and anticipating with optimism and pride the unchartered territories we have yet to explore. 11 General Tournament Information OVERVIEW Our Tournament is a 2 day 36 Hole Stroke Play Tournament. All competitors will play from the forward tees on all courses. The competitor with the lowest 2 day gross score will be the Tournament Champion. Four prizes will be awarded in each flight for 1 st 4 th place winners. FRIENDLY FIRE TOWEL (TEAM COMPETITION) A state must have at least 5 golfers to qualify for this competition. The winner will be determined by combining the total of the 5 lowest scores on Friday (Day 1) and the 5 lowest scores on Saturday (Day 2) for each state. (This could be 10 scores from 10 different individuals). Winning team name is listed on the Friendly Fire Towel. COMPETITIVE AND SASSY SENIOR DIVISIONS INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY Pairings are based on handicaps for Friday (Day 1). Pairings for Day 2 will be based on Day 1 results. An individual s score for Day 1 and Day 2 is combined and the winner is the golfer with the lowest score. If there is a tie, the winner will be determined by a review of the scores on the #1 handicap holes for Day 1 and Day 2. The golfer with the lowest score will be the winner. If the scores are still equal, we will review the scores for the #2 handicap hole, etc. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to re flight a golfer if there is a significant difference in scores relative to their flight assignment. Please keep in mind that every effort is made to make this tournament as fair as possible, fun for all, and to allow everyone an opportunity to win. NON COMPETITIVE DIVISION TEAM SCRAMBLE AND BRAMBLE FORMATS Noncompetitive teams were randomly assigned. Teams will play the following formats: Scramble Format on Day 1 and Bramble Format on Day 2. Day 1 Scramble Each player tees off. Team selects the best drive. From there, all players hit their second shot and select the next best location. Repeat until ball is holed out. Day 2 Bramble Each player tees off. Team selects the best drive. From there, each player plays their own ball (stroke play) until their ball is holed out or maximum score of DOUBLE PAR is reached. Awards are given based on team scorecard drawing. If the team scorecard is selected, all members of that team will win a prize. The teams increase their chance of winning by entering a scorecard for both days. Scores will not be tallied. Noncompetitive players CAN participate in tournament contests like closest to the pin, long drive, etc. SCORE CARDS Players should exchange score cards with an opponent in your group. The scorekeeper will sign the card. The golfer should double check the score before also signing the card. Turn in all signed cards to the Pro Shop. Once the card is turned in no changes will be made. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! 11

12 Rules Information Competitive Division RULES OVERVIEW Play under and in accordance with USGA Rules of Golf, as modified by local rules or the Tournament Committee. The embedded ball rule shall be in effect through the green. Soft spikes only. USGA approved range finder and GPS devices are permitted. Cell phones may be used as a GPS only, with ring tone turned off. Championship Flight 1 should play the ball from tee to green and hole out with no maximum score limit. For all other flights, the maximum score for any hole will be DOUBLE PAR + 1 STROKE. Pick up your ball after reaching double par and add one stroke. Do not continue to play out the hole once your maximum stroke is reached. If there is any doubt as to procedure, play a second ball; announce you are hitting a 2 nd ball and which one you will score if allowed. Request a ruling prior to attesting scorecard. All golfers should direct questions to the Golf Pro or designated Rule Official for any rules questions during the tournament or make note of your question and check in with the Golf Pro before signing and turning in your scorecard. Please avoid slow play keep pace with the group ahead. Marshalls will be actively on the course to help facilitate pace of play. The following will result in player disqualification: Failure to report to designated tee box at starting time. Failure to sign scorecard or signing incorrect scorecard. Playing hole out of sequence. Rules Information Non-Competitive Division THESE RULES ARE IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL RULES LISTED ABOVE AND APPLY TO NON COMPETITIVE GOLFERS ONLY. If a ball is hit into a bunker the player will have 1 swing to get the ball out of the bunker. If not successful she will be allowed to throw the ball out of the bunker, no closer to the hole, and receive a 1 stoke penalty. It is recommended that non competitive golfers use gimmies. A gimmie would apply to any putt inside of a standard putter length from the cup. When you reach gimmie range, pick up and add 1 stroke. 12
