1 CELEBRATING 16 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA SW Florida Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - November 2008 Old Corkscrew Sign up now to play Old Corkscrew Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus design and a very PRIVATE course. December 13th 9:00. The price is just $85.00 which includes lunch. (Their lobster salad is to die for...and everything else is good too!) We have offered play there before, and most members wanted to go back after experiencing the course. There are no houses surrounding the course...a citrus grove, a pine forest and tons of wild flowers and lakes is all you will see. It is old Florida and quite natural. Old Corkscrew is located on Corkscrew Rd in Estero 7+ miles East of I 75. It is a mid-way location for our members in Naples or Ft. Myers. Contact: Jack or Russ7636@aol.com. Checks for $85.00 made out to ASGA SWFL may be mailed to Jack 4620 Turnberry Lake Drive #104 Estero, FL President s Remarks Fourteen of our Chapter members went to Asheville, NC for a regional event hosted by the Asheville Chapter. Although there were some "glitches" and the weather was cold for the starting tee times, we all had a great time. There were 128 members there from many different states and it was nice to see old friends. Most of us stayed on to tour the Biltmore Estate and Winery. WOW!!! My group returned via Savannah and stayed in and toured the historic district in a horse and carriage. How fun and informative!!! Our October meeting and Social included a report from the Nominating Committee and a vote on Officers for Our new President will be Ray Kopplin Secretary, Billie Porter...Treasurer, Linda Morris...Social Chair, Cashy Bartels...Golf Chair, Jack Russell... Membership Chair, Dee Pekarek...and Communications Chair, Kathy Sloan with Pat Mead's assistance. All of these chairs need support from our membership. Volunteer your assistance in any area in which you are comfortable or talented. Our Board decided that each member of our Chapter must offer to do just one thing each year to help our chapter function. a Social one a golf event one day help Cashy with the Christmas party). It doesn't require alot, but it takes the burden off of the 10 people who do most everything. This is a challenge!!! I would like to thank all of last years officers for their support and help. Make sure your membership is current. National sends out a reminder, but we have learned that many members put them on the back of their desk and forget them. No-one injured themselves and we had lots of laughs since most of us hadn't bowled in 30 years! Golf Rules & Etiquette For those who would like to play more golf during high season but want a great price, try going to Easylinksgolf.com and try bidding for a good price on courses in the area. If your drive goes astray and you want to hit a Mulligan or a "provisional", you should wait until after all members of the foursome have hit their first ball. Also,...don't move forward of the tee box to look for your ball until everyone has hit. Play "ready golf". It is especially important during this time of the year when the courses are so busy. Be at your ball with club in hand and ready to hit when it's your turn. If pace of play slows, it can be very distracting to your fellow players. And, speaking of distracting,...golf cart conversations while other members of your foursome are teeing off are not acceptable. Even whispered conversations can cause some players to lose focus. Be courteous. In the meantime, hit them long, hit them straight and, above all else, have fun! This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime. LAW 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former. LAW 3: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water. LAW 4: Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down. LAW 5: No matter what causes a golfer to muff a shot, all his playing partners must solemnly chant "You looked up," or invoke the wrath of the universe. LAW 6: The higher a golfer's handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor. LAW 7: Every par-three hole in the world has a secret desire to humiliate golfers. The shorter the hole, the greater its desire. LAW 8: Topping a 3-iron is the most painful torture known to man. LAW 9: Palm trees eat golf balls. LAW 10: Sand is alive. If it isn't, how do you explain the way it works against you? LAW 11: Golf carts always run out of juice at the farthest point from the clubhouse. LAW 12: A golfer hitting into your group will always be bigger than anyone in your group. Likewise, a group you accidentally hit into will consist of a football player, a professional wrestler, a convicted murderer and an IRS agent -- or some similar combination. LAW 13: All 3-woods are demon-possessed. LAW 14: Golf balls from the same "sleeve" tend to follow one another, particularly out of bounds or into the water (See Law three). LAW 15: A severe slice is a thing of awesome power and beauty. LAW 16: "Nice lag" can usually be translated to "lousy putt." Similarly, "tough break" can usually be translated "way to miss an easy one, sucker." LAW 17: The person you would most hate to lose to will always be the one who beats you. LAW 18: The last three holes of a round will automatically adjust your score to what it really should be. LAW 19: Golf should be given up at least twice per month. LAW 20: All vows taken on a golf course shall be valid only until the sunset.

In October, chapters should have elected their chapter president for the 2009 calendar year beginning January 1. During this month, chapters are suppose to elect their committee heads. All of this is according to your chapter bylaws ( If you have not elected your leaders for next year, please make sure you do it by the end of November. As soon as you have completed your elections, please inform the national office by submitting the new names to: New Newsletter Format Beginning January 1 We re creatures of habit. But for the first time, we ll go to a different format for your newsletter, a 5.5 x 8.5 booklet-style that will be done on our new raz-ma-taz digital printer and will mail easier.
