7 Introduction Welcome to our 10th Annual joint production sale of high quality in-lamb Charollais ewes and ewe lambs at Worcester Market on Saturday 2nd October All sheep forward will have been inspected by an appointed Society inspector for confirmation of health, soundness of teeth, feet and udders. Arrangements have also been made to facilitate export of sheep to Ireland direct from the sale yard. The sheep on offer will once again come from the cream of the U.K. Charollais genetics with many of this year s show and sale leading flocks featuring in the sale. We once again welcome from Ireland David & Liz Mawhinney (Rockvilla) and Drew Cowan (Tullyear) along with guest consignments from J. A. & R. Geldard & Sons (Wraycastle), Charles Sercombe (Dalby), Meilir Jones (Aberkinsey), Arwel Owen (Banwy), Jonathan & Carroll Barber (Crogham), Cecil & Janet Thomas (Wolston) and Adrian Davies (Glyn Coch), a truly impressive line up of the best Charollais bloodlines available today. 8 General Information The Sale will commence at noon. The sale is held under the auspices of the British Charollais Sheep Society and all sheep will be sold subject to the Rules and Conditions of the Society. Copies are available from the Society or Auctioneers and will be displayed at the sale. All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order. sheep to be sold singly. All LICENSES Vendors are responsible for completing their Standard Movement Documents prior to the sale. The Market Holding Number is HEALTH The sheep are from Maedi Visna Accredited flocks registered with the SAC Sheep & Goat Health Scheme All flocks have Scrapie Monitored Status or are tested ARR/ARR genotype. INSPECTION All sheep will have been subject to inspection by an official Society Inspector and faults found will be declared by the Auctioneers at the time of sale. SCANNING RESULTS All ewes will be scanned with results available on the day of the sale or printed in the catalogue. This in no way guarantees the number of lambs at birth. If any female sheep which is described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as being scanned in lamb or in lamb proves not to have been in lamb at the time of sale and within 7 days after the day of sale the Purchaser gives written notice to the auctioneers of his intention to return the animal supported by a veterinary surgeon s certificate that such sheep has proved not to have been in lamb then the purchaser may return such sheep to the vendor. The vendor may elect to sell the sheep as running with ram where no guarantee is implied or in the case of ewe lambs as empty. PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES & NSP CERTIFICATE Pedigree Certificates will be available at the Auction Mart Office on the day of the sale. Where certificates of scrapie genotype have been issued these will be attached to the BCSS Pedigree Certificate. BIO-SECURITY Current DEFRA regulations are to be observed. This long correct ram with an exceptional skin has certainly passed these traits on to the few lambs we have by him and as a result has had a far more extensive use over the flock this year. His dam TG 4058 had previously been purchased by Arwyn from us at Worcester Female Sale Progeny from Arjane Jumanji sold for 2200 gns. at the year s Premier Sale and his very smart lambs have great skins with growth and muscle in abundance. All ewes are scrapie genotype ARR/ARR and in last to R1 tups. Last year we were very pleased to top the sale with a shearling ewe by Rockvilla Ferrari who was in lamb to Kings Land Invincible. She was purchased by the Logie Durno flock for 1,750 gns and went on to be a great success for them. Her two lambs, one ewe lamb and one ram lamb were both placed at the Royal Highland Show and have won breed championships in Scotland. The ewe herself was 2nd at the RHAS and much admired. This year 6 out of our seven ewes are sired by Kings Land Invincible. He was Champion Worcester Premier Sale 2008 and purchased for 3,700 gns. He won 1st prize on all his show outings in The ewes have the stamp of Rockvilla Ferrari, who is the dam s sire in most instances. These ewes have been carefully selected and are reluctantly offered for sale. The objective of our flock is to produce good quality Charollais Rams for the commercial sheep farmer, again this year Wraycastle Rams have sold well at the sales in the North West achieving Breed Champion and Reserve Champion at Carlisle and Chelford respectively. All our consignment are sired by Banway Immense, the record breaking 10,500gns Ram purchased at Welshpool in 2008, he has put a real stamp on the females in the flock. Service sires are Parkgate Jack ZCA9042 ARR/ARR (pictured right) he was Reserve Breed Champion at Builth II in 2009 where he was purchased for 1000gns, and Gogwell Kicking King NF0012 ARR/ARR, this ram lamb took my eye at this years Premier Sale for his overall correctness, tremendous conformation and his tight skin, a very exciting prospect. All Wraycastle ewes were AI d on 9 July 2010, are signet recorded, in the Hephervac P system and have recently been dipped. We have not individually Genotyped this year due to the high percentage of group 1 sheep in the flock, both Sire and Service Sire are ARR/ARR I would like to offer all purchasers of Wraycastle ewes the very best of luck. 8

They have been carefully selected from 63 shearling ewes all of which we considered good enough to breed from ourselves. They represent some of the top families within the Rockvilla flock. Three of our gimmers are closely connected to the famous Rutland Leveche, grand dam of Rockvilla Golden Promise and should be well worth a look. Highlights of the last year for us include winning the Champion Stock Ram in Northern Ireland for the third year in succession, this time with our current senior ram, Honddu Investigator. His son Rockvilla Klass Act also won the ram lamb class and reserve male champion at Balmoral Show. Klass Act then on to win second in the December class at Worcester Premier and was sold for 3,200 gns. See photo of Klass Act on the cover. ROCKVILLA SIRES HONDDU INVESTIGATOR - was purchased privately at the Royal Welsh Show 2008 after he had won the ram lamb class as well as Reserve Male Champion and has now completed the hat-trick for us by winning the Champion Stock Ram in N. Ireland He has matured into the best stock ram we have ever owned and is breeding very well. Having AI d 66 ewes to him and served 20 naturally we have included 3 of his first daughters and three gimmers in lamb to him. 9

14 CASTELLAU FAVOURITE - has now been used successfully in our flock for the last five year and as half of our gimmers are sired by him this year, we have included six of his daughters today. He has won the Champion Stock Ram in N.I and 2008 and runner up in 2009 to our present stock ram Honddu Investigator. WERNFAWR JET - a Foulrice Eurostar son was purchased at Worcester Premier last year after winning Supreme champion and his first crop of lambs are proving to be very growthy and correct on their legs. We won the N Ireland Flock Competition in These six hoggets have been chosen from a batch of sixty with five of the six sired by Tullyear Egbert and the other by a son of Egbert, Tullyear Ironside who was Champion Shearling Ram at Dungannon Premier 2009 and sold for 1350gns. All are in lamb to Knockychottaun Leprechaun a shearling who was purchased privately this spring from Mayo Breeder Peadar McGee. Leprechaun was purchased for his tremendous width and depth of gigot, long broad loin and different bloodlines. AB51 5EL Tel: Web This year we are pleased to offer 15 top quality females at the sale. 14 shearling ewes which made up part of the first prize group of ewe lambs in the Region 1 flock competition, including a selection of embryo daughters from our top ewes. As a highlight of our entry we have also taken the decision to offer Logie Durno Imogen for sale, she is out of one of the best ewes in the flock and has been in our show team as a ewe lamb, shearling ewe and as an aged ewe. She was flushed last year and we have six very promising ewe lambs to carry on her bloodline has been one of the most successful years in the flock s history, starting at Worcester Premier Sale we sold fourteen rams to average These included Logie Durno Judge and Jury who was Champion shearling and top price of 8200gns, as well as that we had the 2nd and joint 3rd top price shearling rams at 4400gns and 3000gns. We also had 2nd and 3rd top price ram lambs selling for 6200gns and 5400gns. In all 10 of the 14 rams sold for 2500gns and above. Our other main highlight of the year came at the Royal Welsh Show, it was our first time exhibiting at the show and we were delighted to win Champion and Reserve with Logie Durno Jackpot and his full sister Logie Durno Kylie, she was then accompanied by our first prize ram lamb and second prize shearling ewe to win the Champion group of three. Six of the fourteen shearling ewes offered for sale are April born with one born in May, they have been reared naturally and we are confident that all the sheep we have selected for the sale will grow on and do well for their new owners. As you will see later in the catalogue all the sheep we have entered have top genetics behind 12

17 them with most of them being embryos, they have all been scanned in-lamb to some of the top service sires in the breed. We wish all our customers every success with their purchases. Jackpot has grown into a great shearling weighing in at 175Kg this summer, he was breed champion at the RWAS 2010 and interbreed sheep at the Black Isle show out of over 1000 entries. His full ET sister Logie Durno Kylie was first prize ewe lamb and reserve champion at the RWAS 2010, and full ET brother to Logie Durno Kings Ransome who was 2nd top price ram lamb at the premier sale selling for 6200gns to the Inglis flock. We identified 2 good breeders which we flushed in 2006, and we are still flushing them in 2010 Windmill Delia, YLK3004. There will be 3 full sisters to Banwy Immense and Banwy Inspirational from Eurostar that will be in lamb to our new ram lamb Logie Durno Klassic purchased in this year s Premier sale for 5,400 gns. All the ewes presented for sale will be in lamb to Logie Durno Klassic which we share with Aled Shenton, Barmouth this lamb was in the top 1% of the breed on performance data. (see picture on cover) YLK3004 is a big powerful ewe that has a tremendous head with great bone and body. She has been a excellent foundation ewe for the Banwy Flock and a very consistent breeder. Windmill Delia has a great body and head just a good breeder, her February born Lamb this year is one of our best female lambs bred from Banwy Jetsetter bought by Harry De Vliegher. The shearlings presented for sale will be full sisters to last year s crop of lambs that averaged 830 over 24 ram lambs presented for sale This will be the first time we will have forwarded ewe lambs for sale we are going to present four G- Fieldsman daughters Our main goals have not changed from last year s sale it is still to breed sheep with tremendous loins, great backends and last but not least, tight skins. Our experience from running a commercial flock has focused us on the type of pedigree ewes we need to breed to sustain a value in our breeding stock, both pedigree and commercial. 15

More and more commercial farmers are becoming aware of the merits of our breed and are driving demand for rams and females alike has also been a very successful year for the Dalby flock with major success in both the show ring and performance charts, which is the result of our policy of Balanced Breeding. Most importantly we continue to see an increased demand for our grass fed shearlings sold off the farm, our customers seeing the benefit of high index, correctly managed rams. We will therefore stick to our policy of producing sheep for sale from a forage based diet, these shearling ewes being no different. In the show ring in 2010 the Dalby Flock won 5 Breed and 1 Reserve Championship from 6 county shows, mostly with shearling ewes, all sired by Rockvilla Golden Promise, how lucky we feel to have owned such an exceptional ram. 23 In the June Index run the performance lists are dominated by Dalby bred sheep. It was particularly pleasing that Dalby Kracked-It PE 0114 was highest index ram lamb (2 ewes in-lamb to him), he was also good enough to stand 2nd at three county shows in a week. Dalby Hickory Dickory PE 7090, also came out top of the stock ram list, he being a very powerful Foulrice Garcia son from the same family as Kracked-It, 5 shearlings are in-lamb to him. There are also others in-lamb to Rainbow Intuition - Southam Exotics highest index son, Alt Jabel Reserve Champion Derby and Newark shows, and Edstaston Informe a high index Rainbow Hermes son out of the outstanding ewe Edstaston Dubai. Finally, there are 5 shearlings in-lamb to our 3,000 gns joint purchase Logie Durno Jeeves, who won the MLC performance class at the Premier Sale, not the biggest but correct, wide, well fleshed and with a good index.
