It is felt that if each member would take the matter in hand, the membership would rapidly increase, thereby enabling the Association to extend its sphere of usefulness in many ways. Entry for one person into selected shows by a Central District Ticket. RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. Where such are applicable, the show will run under the Rules of the Royal Agricultural Society. 2. General Exhibits to be on the Show Ground by 9:30am Sheep, Cattle and Horses excepted (see respective sections). All Exhibits must be the bona fide property of the Exhibitor and Produce must be grown by the Exhibitor. 3. All sheep must be penned at 9am on the day of the Show. Purebred sheep (Half-breeds excepted) must be confined to their respective classes. In the classes in the horse section, when measurement is specified. Horses will be measured before judging, and certificates will be given by the measuring steward.

6 4. Championship ribbons will be awarded in stud sheep, cattle, goat and horse sections. Reserve Champions will be awarded in the horse and goat sections. All yearlings in livestock classes are eligible for Championships and all cattle and horses must be led. 5. No distinguishing mark of ownership, with the exception of tailing mark, ear-marking, registered brand or ear-tag may be attached to any animal exhibit and no ticket will be allowed on any animal during judging. 6. No stock or implements may be removed from the Ground until after 4pm. Produce Shed Exhibits may not be removed until 4:15pm without a special order from the Secretary. 7. The Committee will not under any circumstances hold themselves responsible for loss, damage, or misdelivery of stock, implements etc. exhibited at the Show. Prime sheep and prime lamb sections, the onus of exhibits being entered in their right classes rests entirely on the exhibitor. 8. All protests must be in writing, and may be entered either before or after the Judges have proceeded to their duties. The person entering a protest in any section of the show to deposit $25.00, the deposit to be returned if the protest is sustained. If the protest be lodged before the Judges proceed to their duties, the onus of proof is to rest with the Exhibitor. If after judging is completed, the onus of proof is to rest with the party protesting. No protest will be received later than half an hour after the awards are made, and the prize tickets affixed. Protest Committee: President, Senior Vice President, Secretary and Marshall of section concerned in the protest. 9. (a) Judges are specially requested to withhold prizes in cases where there is competition if the exhibits are of inferior description. Competition shall mean two or more entries in any one class. (b) Judges are requested to award a First Prize only if in their opinion the exhibit warrants it. Full First Prize Money will be paid on the ticket awarded. (c) All Special Prizes not competed for are to become the property of the Association, and Cash Specials may be altered to Trophies if found necessary. Donations of prize money will be awarded to the winner of the particular class unless otherwise stated. 10. Non-members will be granted one Exhibitor's pass for Entries aggregating $10.00.

In case the funds of the Association are at any time insufficient after paying expenses and making necessary provision for all liabilities to pay prize money in full, the amount available for the purposes shall be distributed pro rata among the prize winners. 12. District Competition shall mean the area bounded by the Rakaia River in the north, the Mitcham, Winchmore-Dromore and Black Road in the east, the south Branch of the Ashburton River in the south and the Southern Alps in the west. 13. Special Rule. Public and Competitors enter the Showgrounds at their own risk. 14. No Cups or Trophies are to be returned by post, as such a method can result in damage in transit. 15. The Committee reserve the right to present product prizes in place of monetary prizes in any class. 16. All prize money not claimed within 6 (six) months of Show Day will be forfeited. 17. The Association Committee reserves the right to publish results. 18. The Association Committee reserves the right to publish a list of current Members and Life Members in the catalogue. TUBERCULOSIS, OVINE AND BOVINE BRUCELLOSIS TESTING: All stock covered by the NAIT and TBfree New Zealand schemes (regardless of age) must be: TB free and in the case of breeding stock be Accredited Brucellosis Free Departing from a property that is registered with a NAIT number and TBfree NZ herd number Accompanied with a copy of a valid Animal Status Declaration form Fitted with a valid NAIT RFID tag and registered in the NAIT system Registered in a movement to the event NAIT number from the animals current NAIT number within 48 hours of arrival Registered in a return movement from the event NAIT number to their destination (receiving NAIT number) within 48 hours of departure All stock over 90 days of age travelling from within a TBfree Movement Control Area must be pre-movement tested within 60 days of arriving at the event. Animal Status Declaration Forms and must be available to the Show Secretary at the time of arrival.

8 PLEASE NOTE: ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED unless accompanied by these documents. All sheep entered in the Stud Section must be either from a flock currently accredited brucellosis free or have no palpable lesions of epididymitis and have received a negative test for ovine brucellosis. Copies of certificates must accompany entry forms. No animal from a herd or farm under movement control for TB, BRUCELLOSIS or Distance control place notice, and any replacement stock associated with such animals shall be exhibited at the Methven A&P Show. AL Russell Secretary TRADE SPACE: Craft, Domestic Display and Stall: Single site (6x6m) $60.00, Double site (12x6m) $ Maximum of two admission passes will be issued. Agricultural Implements: $10.00 per metre of frontage plus GST, with a depth of 10 metres. Minimum $ Two admission passes will be issued on each $50.00 worth of space, with a maximum of six (6) passes. Food Sellers: $100 per site Powered Site: $30 extra The Committee has the right to refuse any applications for space. SCHEDULE OF PRIZES: Past President's Cup for Exhibitor gaining Most Points in the show. The Thomas Dowling Memorial Shield (donated by Mr Jnr Dowling) for Most Points in Livestock and Farm Produce. HJ Freeman Challenge Trophy to the Most Points in Black faced Purebred Sheep Classes (Hampshire, Dorset Down, South Dorset Down, Suffolk and South Suffolk). Mr CP Wright donates a Trophy to the Best Ram exhibited in Merino, Corriedale, Borderdale, English Leicester, Border Leicester and Romney classes. Judges of these sections to allot points from one to five for the best ram in each of these sections excluding the ram from their own particular section. The winner to be the ram with the least overall points. Trophy to be won outright after five years competition by Exhibitor with Most Wins over five year period. If no clear winner at this time, competition to be continued until a clear winner is found.

9 Gift Calf Auction CONVENORS: Ben McIntosh Phil Lowe Trevor Monson Gifts of calves are being accepted for our Gift Calf Auction. Gifted calves will be collected by a Methven A&P representative prior to the show. All gifted calves will be auctioned on show day, after the Grand Parade and Gift Lamb Auction, in the area by the calf pens. Prize giving and BBQ will be held at the completion of the auction in the ASB tent next to the calf pens. Cup and ribbon for the Heaviest Gift Calf, as well as spot prizes. From the proceeds of the 2018 Calf Auction, donations will be made to the Methven Scout and Guide Building Group and the Methven Volunteer Firefighters Supporters Group, to be used for their Firewise Education Programme. Two scholarships are also awarded to Mount Hutt College Students, moving on to tertiary education. This year s recipients are Leilani Lobb and Aimee Elliott. Where 3 or 4 entries in a class, first and second prize will be paid. Where 5 or more entries in a class, first, second and third prize will be paid OR as per class prize conditions. If there are more than 10 entries in a class, the prize money will be as follows: 1st $25.00, 2nd $20.00, 3rd $15.00, 4th $10.00, 5 th $5.00. The Sheep Committee reserves the right to substitute monetary prizes with product prizes. 11 Registered or purebred sheep not eligible in prime sheep, prime lamb and flock ewe sections. Sheep unfairly shorn will be disqualified at the discretion of the Judge. All sheep in purebred class must be from registered stock. All entries in pedigree stock classes must be property of a breeder member of the appropriate breed society. No sheep allowed to compete in more than one class. Natural condition means no covering, trimming or shedding since the sheep was last shorn. Except that they may be placed under cover for the 48 hour period prior to the day of judging. Natural condition inspector will be on the grounds. Flock sheep, prime lambs and prime sheep may be eye clipped and lambs dipped and dagged. No exhibit entered in sheep classes will be allowed on grounds if suffering from footrot. No adult sheep shown in wool shall have been shorn earlier than 20 July of the year preceding the Show. All adult male sheep must be from Brucellosis free flocks. Breed Championship Cups - will be awarded but held by the Association at the Convenor's discretion. All cups will be engraved with the new holder's details. Sponsors donations will be used at the Convenor's discretion across all breeds and classes unless otherwise stated. NOTE: Class 50 and 51 Commercial Ram Class requires a separate Lamb entry. ANZ - CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS ANZ Champion of Champions judging to take place approximately 12 noon. No covering, spraying or trimming. Class 99 Two mutton Crossbred lambs, shorn or woolly, most suitable for export Lambs should not exceed 23kg carcass weight. Weight range between 15-23kg carcass weight. Class 100 Two Crossbred lambs, most suitable for export, wool breeds Lambs should not exceed 23kg carcass weight. 19 ASB Gift Lamb Competition NEW FORMAT FOR 2018 Gift lambs (prime) will be judged on hoof on show day. Gifts of other classes also accepted (store lambs/two tooths/ewes etc) All gifted stock will be auctioned on show day, at the completion of the Grand Parade, immediately prior to the calf auction, in the sheep pens, approximately 2:30pm. Prize giving and BBQ will be held at the completion of the lamb & calf auctions in the ASB tent next to the calf pens. Gifted stock will be collected by a Methven A&P representative, or, can be dropped off to the show grounds either the day before the show or by 9:30am on show day. TA Richards gives Challenge Trophy for the Best Fleece in the Show. To be held for one year. All fleeces must be skirted to the highest commercial standards and must be of a normal seasons growth. Up to three entries in each class are accepted from each competitor. 26 Horses and Ponies RULES Only Methven A&P back numbers to be used. A $7.00 fee will be charged for all back numbers with $5 refundable upon return. A $2 fee will be retained for a judge's travel fund. This will be used at the discretion of the Methven A&P Association towards reimbursing equestrian judges some travel expenses incurred. No breast plate numbers allowed. OWNERSHIP RAS RULE: All horses and ponies entered in competitive classes, ring events or parading must be in the name of the bona fide owner. All animals must be named at time of entry, as on their RAS Certificate where applicable. LEASES/PARTNERSHIPS RAS RULE: A lease/ partnership lodged with the RAS must cover each leased or partnered exhibit competing at any Show/Event. A lease or partnership must be recorded with the RAS on a recognised form to be acceptable. All benefits and penalties relating to an exhibit shall be attributed to the lessee or partner. If the exhibit is registered with an affiliated Breed Society the lease/partnership must also be registered with that Society. Leases or partnerships must be for no less than a six (6) month period and shall commence, on receipt of confirmation from the RAS that it has been received. Riders may compete in only one rider class and district rider if eligible. AGES APPLY AS OF 1ST AUGUST No delay will be permitted between classes and any competitor not ready to compete will be eliminated. All prize winners to appear in Grand Parade. 80% refunds of entry fees will only be made on production of a Veterinary Certificate or Medical Certificate to be dated stating when injury or illness occurred. To be received by Show Secretary no later than seven (7) days after day of show. RAS Equestrian Levy -A levy of $1 per entry is contained within the entry fee. METHVEN A&P ASSOCIATION RULE 12: District competition shall mean the area bounded by the Rakaia River in the north, the Mitcham, Winchmore-Dromore and Black Road in the east, the south branch of the Ashburton River in the south and the Southern Alps in the west.

27 METHVEN A&P ASSOCIATION 'DISTRICT RULING': Owned in the district (see Rule 12 above) and ridden by the bona fide owner, a member of the owner's family, a holder of a lease or partnership certificate or a current financial member of the Methven Pony Club. HATS AND SAFETY HELMETS: Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in or schooling, or riding for any other reason an exhibit at a RAS affiliated Show/Event or in any area considered to be for whatever reason a part of the Showgrounds. All riders, including harness drivers, competing at RAS affiliated A&P Shows/Events must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area, collecting rings or anywhere else within a Showgrounds. Hats/helmets must conform with the current approved safety standards and must be red tagged. No red tag - no entry to the ring. These standards may be subject to change, but the latest list can be found at under the equestrian tab. The RAS will advise any changes via their website and Facebook. STALLIONS & COLTS All stallions and colts (with the exception of miniature horses and foals) must be shown in a bit. A Steward will order any stallion/colt considered out of control or to be causing undue disquiet to other horses from the ring without recourse from the stallion/colt's owner/exhibitor/competitor. It is compulsory for all stallions and colts, except foals, to wear two (2) official 'S' identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all Shows/Events at all times. The rider/handler must also wear two (2) RAS official armbands (one on each arm) when in the ring. 'S' badges to be purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ; armbands from RAS Head Office. Handlers and riders of stallions/colts must wear an approved hi viz vest at all Shows/Events when outside the showing ring. Vests can be purchased from RAS Head Office. Stallions and colts can only be tied to a truck or float if they are under constant supervision or are tied within an approved solid framed portable yard that is

28 attached the outside of the truck or float. Otherwise they must be confined within their float or truck. NOVICE CLASSIFICATION: A novice exhibit or rider is one that has yet to win six (6) classes in any division within the competitions provided at any A&P Show/Event. Winners failing to produce their RAS Certificate when requested forfeit their awards on the day. Novice exhibits are eligible for open classes. If that novice exhibit wins the open class, then they are eligible for the open championship. All horses & ponies in novice non-jumping classes to be shown in snaffle bridle. Adult riders may ride in novice pony section. PRIZE MONEY: First, second, third, fourth & fifth Prize Ribbons will be awarded according to judge's decision. Prize money will be paid out on Show Day. The Horse Committee reserves the right to substitute monetary prizes with product prizes. CHAMPIONSHIP JUDGING: Champion & Reserve Champion will be selected as follows: First prize winners in all eligible classes to be paraded before the judge. Immediately the Champion has been selected, the second placed animal in the class from which the champion has been selected shall parade with the other first place getters for reserve champion. WHIPS: Whips in ridden classes shall not exceed 76cm in length. Whips in lead rein and first ridden sections shall not exceed 68cm including the flap, which shall measure no more than 2cm wide and 4cm long. Whips in led classes shall not exceed 145cm. MEASURING: Where classes are defined by height, competitors/exhibitors must carry a current RAS Certificate for their horse/pony at all RAS affiliated Shows/Events, and must produce it upon request to any authorised Show/Event personnel. Any competitor unable to produce such a certificate means that the exhibit is ineligible to compete, and will forfeit any awards. Methven A&P Temporary Measuring Certificates are for this Show only and for competitors/exhibitors living in the Methven A&P boundary (see Rule 12). A maximum of two temporary measuring certificates per horse in one show season. Stewards will be in

29 attendance at the measuring stand (near Pony Ring entrance) 7:15am to 10:00am. Measures will cost $10 inc GST/measure. All young stock height classes AS AT DAY OF SHOW. All Ponies must be 148cm and under and riders under 17 years as at 1st August All horses & ponies may ONLY compete under one height standard. SHOW JUMPING CLASSES - HORSES & PONIES: All Classes run under ESNZ Rules. The entry fees for show jumping classes apply to members and non-members of the A&P Association. Horse/Pony height certificates and performance cards must be carried. Failure to do so will result in elimination. FORBIDDEN SUBSTANCE TESTING: The Rules of the Royal A&P Society New Zealand in regard to Forbidden Substances apply. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is at the person responsible's risk. Forbidden Substance - Any substance capable of affecting the speed, stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey or mule by its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardio-vascular, respiratory, alimentary, digestive, muscoskeletal or urogenital systems. YELLOW CARD: This Show/Event supports the RAS 'Yellow Card' system. A Yellow card will be issued in cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/By Laws including the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and their grounds and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to the Person Responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show) which suspends any penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of the 'Yellow Card' system is available to view on the RAS website - ARREARS: No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees, subscriptions or any other Show/Event charge is eligible to compete at any affiliated Show/Event. Proof of payment will be required before restriction is lifted.

30 SUMMARY OF RAS RESOLUTION PROCESS: The full process can be found on the RAS website The principle behind the process is to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in most cases, it should be dealt with directly by the show. If the matter is in regards to an RAS official, the show may request the assistance of RAS Head Office as to how to deal with this in an appropriate manner. CLEANING: Stables, covered yards or open yards that remain uncleaned at the conclusion of the show will have an invoice sent for cleaning costs. NOTE: The onus is on all exhibitors to be familiar with the updated Royal Agricultural Society's Equestrian Competitors and Judges Rule Book and Guidelines.
