5 RULES & REGULATIONS The Mayfield A & P Association adopts the By-laws of the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) and agrees to abide by these By-laws. In so doing, the Mayfield A & P Association will endeavor to comply with the Privacy Act, the Health and Safety in Employment Act and other Acts that may affect the work of the Association. HEALTH AND SAFETY Public and Competitors enter the Show at their own risk. While every precaution has been taken to avoid harm to visitors, exhibitors and all others using the grounds, the Mayfield A & P Association will not be responsible for any injury, maiming or accident suffered by any person entering the premises irrespective of whether such injury, maiming or accident is occasioned by any act or omission of the Mayfield A & P Association. YELLOW CARD This Show/Event supports the RAS Yellow Card system. A Yellow Card will be issued, in cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/ Bylaws including the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and their grounds and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to the Person Responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show) which suspends and penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of the Yellow Card system is available to view on the RAS website. MAYFIELD A & P ASSOCIATION DISTRICT - Where the Schedule refers to the Association s District, it refers to the area between the Rangitata and South Ashburton (including Boyers Stream) Rivers, between the hills and the railway line, but excluding that part of Tinwald within the town boundary. 1. General Exhibits to be on the Show Ground by 9 a.m. on Show Day, 10 th March 2018 except where the schedule states a different time. 2. All Horses and Goats must be haltered and led, and kept at their allotted stands. 3. No stock or implements must be removed from the ground until after 4 p.m. nor exhibits removed from the Produce Shed until after 4.30 p.m. without a Special Order from the Secretary.

6 4. The Committee will not under any circumstances hold themselves responsible for loss, damage, or mis-delivery of any exhibit at the Show. 5. The Committee reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry, without giving any reason for doing so. 6. PROTESTS As per the RAS Complaints Procedure adopted in June 2013, all protests must be in writing and detail the specific RAS or Mayfield A & P Association Rule that has been deemed to be breached. The protest must be lodged with the Show Secretary, preferably at the time of the incident or within 10 days of the incident. Any protest lodged outside of this timeframe will not be considered. A $50 deposit must accompany the protest. (The RAS Complaints Procedure can be found on the RAS website under Rules & Regulations). 7. No distinguishing mark of ownership, with the exception of tailing mark, earmarking, and registered brand, may be attached to any animal exhibited. 8. In the event of there being no competition in any class, no prize will be given unless the Judges certify to particular merit, and the Judges are specially requested to withhold prizes in cases where there is no competition if the exhibits are of inferior description. 9. In case the funds of the Association are at any time insufficient, after paying expenses and making necessary provision for all liabilities, to pay prize money in full, the amount available for the purpose shall be distributed pro-rata among the prize takers. All Special Prizes not competed for, or awarded to, become the property of the Association. 10. All Exhibits must be the bonafide property of the Exhibitor and all produce must have been grown by the Exhibitor. 11. Only Catalogued and Judging Sheet entries will be judged. 12. In all classes where weight is specified, sheep to be weighed before being judged. 13. No ribbons, tickets, etc., other than those won during the day, may be displayed at the Show. 14. Refunds of entry fees will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and at the Committee s discretion. A veterinary certificate must be produced for animals. Up to 80% of fees paid may be refunded.

7 ENTRIES The Committee will in no case consider any entry valid unless the fees are paid at the time of making the entry. Fees quoted include GST. All entries must be either: 1. In writing, on printed forms which can be obtained from the Secretary. These forms must be filled out and signed by the Exhibitor or some person authorized by him/her, and must be sent to the Secretary, together with entry fees. OR 2. Entries can be made online at No entry is valid unless conditions are complied with. A Pass will be issued to Exhibitors whose entry fees total $10.00 or more, or at the Secretary s discretion. SUBSCRIPTION Supporters of the Association are respectfully requested to use their influence towards inducing their friends to join the Association. The Membership fee is $30.00 annually, payable on the 1st of June each year. Membership privileges include reduced entry fees in the Livestock Sections and free admission to the Show of the member, partner and three children, and vehicle. VALUE OF POINTS Champion: 2 Reserve Champion: 1 1st 2nd 3rd v.h.c In the event of ties, the winner of the largest number of first prizes shall have the preference. In the event of two or more Exhibitors gaining equal points, also an equal number of first prizes then a 1/2 win shall be recorded. Supreme Champion and special prizes do not count for points.

8 SCHEDULE OF PRIZES - The Past President s Perpetual Cup: Donated by Messrs D. Duff, J.A. Fleming, M.C. Barton, R. Oakley, F.G. Greenslade, A.V. Barrett, E.C.D. Withell, L.R. Harrison, J. Moore, and C.W. Gillies for most points in All Sections of the Show. The Association gives a Miniature Cup to the winner each year. - A A A. Perpetual Cup - Donated by the Ashburton Association Auctioneers to Runner-Up for most points in All Sections. - The Ythan Cup - Re-Donated by F.W. Allan, for most points in Livestock. - Mid Canterbury Stock and Station Agents Association donates a Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Runner-Up most points in Livestock. - Donaldson Trophy (for District Exhibitor). 2018: Supreme Champion District Horse / Pony STEWARD S DUTIES - Stewards are required to assist the Marshal of the Section. - To assist in general manner with the unloading, displaying and loading of exhibits. - To see that each exhibit is placed in the proper class. - To point out to the Judge all the exhibits in the class. (For the convenience of judges all exhibits in one class shall be placed in close proximity to each other.) - To be with the judge the whole of the examination and on no account to communicate to the Judge the name of the exhibitor. - To see that no persons other than Judges and Officials are allowed in the judging area. - To direct the attention of the Judge to paragraphs in the Rules and Regulations affecting the class under examination. - To take down the decisions of the Judge and when finished, write owner s name and exhibit numbers on the judging sheets and have the Judge initial them. - To display prize cards and ribbons with winning exhibits and return the judging sheets to the Secretary immediately. - To return to the Section at 4 p.m. to assist with the loading of stock and the orderly collection of exhibits. - It is the duty of the Marshal to introduce the Judges to press reporters. - Give the Judges a Catalogue when judging is finished.

Second: $6. Third: $4. Terminal Sire Ram Hogget Competition: First: $150 Second: $100 Third: $50 All sheep must be on the ground and penned ready for judging at 9 a.m. All male animals over 10 months of age entered must be from Brucellosis accredited free flocks. Accreditation forms to be produced on Show Day when requested. All exhibits in Lamb classes to be born after 1st July All Terminal Sire Breed Sheep to be shorn on or after 1st September. No sheep shall be exhibited, the wool of which contains any substance or preparation used for the purpose of artificially colouring the wool of the sheep. 'Natural Condition' means no covering, trimming, or shedding since the sheep was last shorn, except that they may be placed under cover for the 48 hour period prior to the day of judging. In natural condition shorn classes no eye-wigging or trimming is allowed. A Supreme Champion Ribbon will be awarded to overall Champion Sheep. Westpac Agribusiness donates a bottle of wine to overall Champion Sheep. Champion Ribbons and Reserve Champion Tickets will be awarded to the Champion Ram and Champion Ewe in each Purebred section. The onus of having sheep in the right place for judging rests with the exhibitor. Sheep with Lice or Footrot must not be exhibited. No sheep eligible in more than one class except lambs that win their Wool Breed Ram Lamb classes. The One Tree Perpetual Cup - Donated by Mr F. W. Allan for Most Points in Purebred Sheep and Wool. (Winner to gain points in both sections).

11 RAVENSDOWN CHAMPION SHEEP OF ALL BREEDS Ravensdown donates a voucher to the Wool breeds winner and also to the Terminal Sire breeds winner. Only sheep registered or eligible for registration to be eligible. (First Cross Halfbreds Accepted). Hazlett Rural donate $100 to the Champion Wool breed and $100 to the Champion Terminal Sire Breed AGRICOM PUREBRED BEST WOOL BREED RAM LAMB Only lambs that win their Wool Breed Ram Lamb classes are eligible to enter. Lambs are to be moved to special pens to be judged by stud stock agents. NO ENTRY FEE OR PRIZE MONEY IN THIS CLASS. The winner will receive the Stan Dysart Memorial Trophy donated by Mr K. W. Donaldson and Agricom donate product to the winner. ALL BREEDS TERMINAL SIRE RAM HOGGET COMPETITION Entry Fee: Members $8 Non Members $10 Prizes: 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50, sponsored by Rabobank and ATS CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: Entries are open to Registered PUREBRED Sheep from Brucellosis Accredited Flocks. Limit of TWO entries per Breeder. One Breed. Ram Hoggets are to be in Natural Condition and born after 1st July 2017 Ram Hoggets are NOT to be entered in other Sheep Sections at the Show. Ram Hoggets are to be SHORN. Class 1 All Breeds Terminal Sire Ram Hogget

12 SILVER FERN FARMS GIFT LAMB CLASS NO ENTRY FEE Lambs sired by Terminal Sire Breed Rams and lambs sired by Wool Breed Rams will be judged separately on the hoof and prizes in each section will be: 1st product donated by Silver Fern Farms, 2nd product donated by MSD animal products, 3rd $20 donated by World Travellers Prizes donated by Silver Fern Farms, for Cutting Quality - Products for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Silver Fern Farms donates the Fairfield Cup to be awarded annually for the best overall lamb on the hook. The C. H. Gallagher Memorial Trophy will be awarded annually to the Gift Lamb returning the highest meat value and the winner will also receive a $50 prize donated by Bruce Rogers Shearing. Breeding to be shown on entry form. Lambs to be killed at the Fairton Works and the top ten selected carcasses will be judged on cutting quality. Proceeds of all lambs entered in this class to become the property of the Association. Mr A. J. Lowry donates a Trophy to be awarded annually to the exhibitor of the Lamb placed first for Cutting Quality. Stronechrubie donate a voucher to the Gift Lamb Class. Class 2 Gift Lamb One lamb of any breed most suitable for the pre-cut lamb trade and on hooks. Lamb to weigh up to 22.9 kg ANZ ROMNEY A. A. Fleming Memorial Cup will be awarded annually to winner of Most Points in the Romney section. ANZ donates $20 to the winner of Most Points and $10 to the Runner-up. Class 3 Ram, 2-shear and over Class 4 Ram, 1-shear Class 5 Shorn Ram Lamb Class 6 Shorn Ram Lamb, in Natural Condition. Class 7 Ewe 2-shear and over Shorn prior to 1st Jan 2018 and must have reared a lamb this season.

13 Class 8 Ewe, 2-shear and over Shorn after 1st Jan 2018 and must have reared a lamb this season. Class 9 Ewe 1-shear. Shorn after 1st Jan 2016 Class 10 Ewe 1-shear. Shorn prior to 1st Jan 2016 Class 11 Shorn Ewe Lamb. Class 12 Ewe, 1- shear, in Natural Condition, shorn prior to 1st Jan 2016 Class 13 Woolly Ewe Lamb, in Natural Condition ALLIANCE CORRIEDALE Alliance donates $20 to the winner of Most Points and $10 to the Runner-up. Class 14 Ram, 2-shear and over Class 15 Ram, 1-shear Class 16 Shorn Ram Lamb Class 17 Ram Lamb, in Natural Condition Class 18 Ewe, 2-shear and over, must have reared a lamb this season. Class 19 Ewe, 1-shear Class 20 Shorn Ewe Lamb Class 21 Ewe Lamb, in Natural Condition ANZ MERINO AND POLLED MERINO ANZ donates $20 to the winner of Most Points and $10 to the Runner-up. The Pioneer Cup, donated by Mr C. D. Chisnall for Annual Competition, for Most Points in Merinos. SUPERFINE AND FINE COMBING Class 22 Ram, 2-shear and over Class 23 Ram, 1-shear Class 24 Ram Lamb Class 25 Ewe, 2-shear and over, must have reared a lamb this season. W The Bob Durant Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the winner of Most Points in the Fine Wool Classes in the Flock Sheep Section. Haskett Tray for Most Points in Black and Coloured Sheep and Black or Coloured Wool. Mid Canterbury Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders donate a Rosette for the Champion Sheep.

21 3. To be eligible for District events a Horse or Pony must be owned by someone living in the District and ridden by the owner or a member of the owner's family. District refers to the area between the Rangitata and South Ashburton (including Boyers Stream) Rivers, between the hills and the railway line, but excluding that part of Tinwald within the town boundary. 4. Where classes are defined by height, competitors/exhibitors must carry a current RAS Certificate for their horse/pony at all RAS affiliated Shows/Events, and must produce it upon request to any authorized Show/Event personnel. Any Competitor unable to produce such a certificate means that the exhibit is ineligible to compete, and will forfeit and awards. Horse / Pony Height Certificates and Performance Cards must be carried. Failure to do so will result in elimination. THERE WILL BE NO MEASURING ON SHOW DAY. 5. A competitor needing to change from one class to another must obtain signed authority from the Official at the Horse Office by the Horse Ring 6. Refunds of entry fees (80%) are made at the discretion of the Committee. An application for a refund must be accompanied by a relevant Veterinary or Doctor's certificate. 7. Ponies under 3 years old may not be shown in saddle classes. 8. All stallions and colts (with the exception of Miniature horses and foals) must be shown in a bit. b) A Steward will order any stallion/colt considered out of control or to be causing undue disquiet to other horses from the ring without recourse from the stallion/colt's owner/exhibitor/competitor. c) It is compulsory for all stallions and colts, except foals, to wear two (2) official 'S' identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all Shows/Events at all times. The rider must also wear two (2) RAS official armbands (one on each arm) when in the ring. 'S' badges to be purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ; armbands from RAS Head Office. d) Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must wear an approved Hi Viz vest at Shows/Events when outside the show rig. Vests can be purchased from RAS Head Office. 9. Hacks and ponies entered in novice classes must be ridden in a snaffle bit.

22 10. The Grand Parade will be held in the main ring at 1.45 pm and all prize winners are required to parade. 11. Prize money will be given out after the Grand Parade (except for FEI classes. which will be given out in the Ring) and Prize Money not collected on Show Day will be forfeited. 12. Both Hack Rings and A B C pony rings will be judged simultaneously. Where exhibitors' classes clash they must elect which class to enter as judging will not be delayed. 13. Only first placegetters from conformation classes (excluding paced and mannered classes) parade for championship judging. Second placegetters are to stand by and the one placed second in the class which the champion won is to parade for selection of reserve champion. 14. All entries must be made in the name of the bona fide owner of the exhibit and such Exhibit must be named at time of entry before the Show, except in the case of imported stock. The Association may require evidence of the date of sale of an exhibit. A bona fide owner shall include a PARTNERSHIP or LEASE. Leases or Partnerships must be for no less than a six month period and shall commence, on receipt of confirmation from the R.A.S that it has been received. 15. In classes where age of rider is specified, it shall be age on 1st August The Committee reserves the right to cancel or combine any class where insufficient entries are received. 17. Hacks, Park Hacks, Cobs, Saddle Hunters, Ponies and Round the Ring Hunters must carry Height Certificates and Performance Cards. Failure to do so will result in elimination. Hats and Safety Helmets a) In all cases current WorkSafe New Zealand rules prevail. b) A hard hat is generally described as a hunting cap, a bowler, protective headwear or a safety helmet. c) Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in or schooling, or riding for any

23 other reason an exhibit at an RAS affiliated Show/Event or in any area considered to be for whatever reason a part of the Showgrounds. d) All riders, including harness drivers, competing at RAS affiliated A&P Shows/Events must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area collecting rings or anywhere else within a Showgrounds. Hats/helmets must conform with one of the current approved safety standards. These standards may be subject to change but the latest list can be found at equestrian. RAS will advise any changes via their website and Facebook. All helmets must have a red official tag. 21. It is an offence for any electronic or radio equipment carried on a competitor in the Show ring, deemed to be possible of outside assistance to a competitor.
