2 Just a reminder, as the Club does not employ reporters nor have the resources or expertise to follow up on these events, it is not possible to report on all of these activities unless you as members write the stories and send them through. So, if any member has a story, item or achievement that they think may be of interest to other members, put pen to paper, write your item, send it through, and we will share it.. Without this input from members it makes it extremely difficult to publish the newsletter every month. Bear in mind, this Newsletter is compiled by volunteers So please send us articles and photos about competitions, training days and upcoming events.

3 President s Whinny Hello SDDC Members, w comes the pointy end of the year when we must elect our committee and plan the activities for the coming year. We have already several training days scheduled, coaches coming down and MAYBE celebrations of Music in May. With a small committee it has become increasingly difficult to organise the events you would all like for the year and we do need some input from the members. If you are good at getting Sponsorship, or would like to choose great prizes to win, we would like to hear from you. We also do not have a scorer for the May competition, and it needs someone to familiarise themselves with the programme and then run it on the Celebrations weekend. The same goes for the sound system! All our committee members are riders, marshals or judges so we do need a hand to run the show on the day. If you know anyone with expertise in the above areas and who would like to volunteer to make the next comp happen, now is your chance to come forward and join in a fun day for the equestrian community in Albany. Coming to the AGM would also give you a forum to present your views as a member and give the committee some ideas on the wishes of the members. 6 9. Is it mandatory for a horse to be shod to compete in an EA FEI dressage test? Freestyles Compulsory At 2018 State Championships Freestyle tests will be made compulsory across all levels of Competitor tests for combinations to be eligible for Competitor Championships at the WA State Dressage Championships to be held on 1 & 2 September. More information will be made available closer to the event.

7 2018 Dressage WA Leaderboard DWA has announced its 2018 Dressage Leaderboard competition which runs from 1 January December 2018 and includes all WA Dressage Competitions. Aims and Objectives of the 2018 DWA Leaderboard ( Leaderboard ) are to: Support the growth and development of dressage riders in WA; Support the initiative taken by clubs and volunteers in organising competitions in WA; Increase awareness of opportunities for riders; and Reward participation and success. The Leaderboard will be maintained by the EWA Office & checked by DWA. 8 Albany Working Equitation On 24/25 February some Club riders took part in an introductory course in Working Equitation (WE) involving obstacles, TV, video and pamphlets. Some of the obstacles included a knock ball, bull with rings, jump, corridor with bell, tarp, stock pen, gate, single and double slalom, cup on pole, barrels.. All participants seemed to enjoy themselves, and there is the possibility there will be more training days soon. If you might be interested in taking part, contact Sharon Masters on argonn70@bigpond.com Bakers Food & Fuel Clinics Clinics are yet to be finalised for 2018, but if you are interested in attending clinics with our regular coaches, contact the coordinators below and put your name down Nadine Merewether Clinics: 16 th & 17 th June 11 th & 12 th August 20 th & 21 st October But unless we get a commitment from members now that they wish to attend and are willing to pay a deposit to secure their spot, we may have to also cancel these clinics, and lose one of the best coaches that the Club has been able to attract. Clinic Policies 1. Riders must be financial members of the Southern Districts Dressage Club and/or members of Equestrian Australia (proof of Equestrian Australia membership must be provided). 2. First paid, first in basis is used to allocate places in each clinic. Preference will be given to Southern Districts Dressage Club members. Therefore, if you wish to secure a place in the clinic, you need to book early. 3. All riders must complete a Dangerous Activity Acknowledgement Form 4. Payment of a deposit, as determined by the Clinic Co-ordinator, is necessary to confirm a rider's place in the clinic. 5. Full payment must be made in advance prior to the clinic. 6. When payment is made by cheque, your place in the clinic will be subject to the cheque being cleared by the bank. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted. 7. If you find you cannot then attend the clinic, it is your responsibility to advise the organiser and to secure a replacement rider; otherwise you will remain responsible for the clinic fees. Most schools have waitlists so please contact organiser who may be able to assist. 8. All clinics with visiting coaches require riders to take on a small duty i.e. collect coaches from airport, provide lunch, setting up arena or taking down arena etc. 9. Finally respect the facilities you are using; and please ensure manure in yards is picked up prior to your leaving the premises. Failure may mean a substantial fine.
