5 RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. ENTRIES: Entries must be made in writing, and lodged with the secretary NOT LATER THAN MONDAY 13 TH, OCTOBER ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON SHOWDAY AT DOUBLE ENTRY FEES. NO EXCEPTIONS (UNLESS OTHERWISE STIPULATED) 2. All exhibits entered for competition must be on the grounds, or in the place assigned to them, not later than 8.30 a.m. 3. OWNERSHIP OF EXHIBITS: Exhibits must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor, and all products entered must have been made or grown by the exhibitor. If required a statutory declaration to that effect, and certifying to any other matter in regard to an entry whose accuracy may be questioned, must be made by the exhibitor. A bona-fide lessee of an animal entered will be regarded as its owner. 4. SHOW TICKETS AND PRIVILEGES: 2017 Prepaid Show Tickets $30 may be obtained from the Secretary. This will admit two adults and children under 18, to the Show. Additional persons must be paid for at gate on entry to grounds. 5. ENTRY FEE: Fees must be paid with entries. No refund of entry fees shall be made except in special circumstances which shall be decided by the Committee at the next meeting after the Show. 6. INSURANCE COMPULSORY: It is the responsibility of all patrons, exhibitors, animal exhibitors, and participants etc. to carry adequate insurance to cover injury caused to another party. 7. ADMISSION CHARGES: Admission to the Show will be at the following rates: Adults $15.00; Children (6 years to 18 years) $5.00; (5 years & under) Free, Vehicles $ DECLARATION: Before starting in any Maiden Event the owner or lessee may be required to sign a Statutory Declaration that the horse or Pony competing is a maiden performer. 9. HORSES COMPETING IN THE ARENAS: All riders in jumping events are requested to wear hunting or jumping costumes. Horses when not being shown should be tethered by Halters. 10. STALLIONS: All stallions must be led with a bit in the mouth by persons 18 years and over. 11. INFECTED OR DANGEROUS ANIMALS: The steward shall refuse admission to the ground, or have removed therefrom, any animal that may be reasonably suspected of being affected with any disease, or which may be considered dangerous 12. SALES OF STOCK: It will not be permissible to offer stock for sale at the Showgrounds, unless they have been entered for competition in some section. The fee to be paid for this privilege is 2.5 percent on the gross amount of every sale made. 13. DISCRETION OF JUDGES: The judge may award, a second or third prize, instead of a first, or may withhold making any award where the exhibit is considered not of sufficient merit, and when there is only one exhibit in a section, a first, a second, or third prize may be awarded or no award at all made if the exhibit be deemed unworthy of a prize. 14. CANCELING EVENT OR REDUCING PRIZE MONEY: In any event where there is no competition, the committee shall have the power of canceling the event or of reducing the prize money to onehalf. 3

6 RULES AND REGULATIONS Continued 15. DISQUALIFIED EXHIBITS: Should an exhibit that has been awarded a prize be subsequently disqualified the next on the list will not necessarily obtain that prize. The committee, with or without the advice of the judge, shall determine the question. 16. PENALTY FOR NON-DISPLAY OF PRIZE CARD: An exhibitor or representative refusing to attach a prize card to an exhibit which has been awarded a prize, or refusing to keep same displayed during the currency of the show, will not be paid the prize money for that exhibit. 17. NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXHIBITS: The Society, while undertaking that every care and attention will be given to exhibits, accepts same at owners risk and subject to the rules and regulations of the Society. 18. PROTESTS: No appeal against the decisions of the judges will be entertained unless made in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $30 and lodged with the Secretary before 5pm on the day of the Show. If the protest shall be deemed frivolous the deposit shall be forfeited. 19. PENALTY FOR FALSE STATEMENTS: Any entrant making a false statement in regard to an exhibit shall be disqualified from exhibiting at future shows, and if he/she be a member of the Society he/she shall also be expelled. Any prize awarded to any exhibit falsely entered or described shall be forfeited. 20. MATTERS, SUBJECTS OR DISPUTES: In case of dispute as to the construction to be placed on any of these rules and regulations, or of any item in the prize schedule, or of any matter arising out of the conduct or administration of the Show, the decision of the committee shall be final and binding. 21. REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS: No exhibit shall be packed or removed from the ground before 3.00 p.m. on the day of the Show. 22. SIDE SHOWS: Applications must be made for Side Shows and Stand Space at least seven days before the Show. All Side Shows will be admitted at the owner's risk and no refunds will be granted by the Society. The committee reserves the right to disallow any side show or the like to be set up or perform or play. 23. The Society strictly reserves unto itself the right to conduct an amplified broadcast. No other form of amplifier mechanism will be Permitted to operate from side shows or other exhibits. 24. RISKS: All persons connected with or engaging in any of the activities in the arena and other departments do so at their own risk. 25. The committee reserves the right to substitute trophies or goods for cash prizes in any section or vice versa. 26. Any person on making an entry will receive a card with Class or Number written thereon, without the production of which no exhibit will be admitted. Entry money must be forwarded at time of entry. 27. It shall be the duty of the stewards to prevent any person interfering with the judges, and, if necessary, order removal of such offenders. 28. All exhibits in Cattle Sections are to be led, and be led into the ring to be judged if requested. 4

7 RULES AND REGULATIONS Continued 29. No refund of entry fees will be made on livestock and arena events and no entries may be transferred to another exhibitor. 30. No judge shall be allowed to exhibit in the Class in which he is acting. 31. Prize money will be paid out at Show. Unclaimed prize money will remain property of the Society. 32. No person shall enter any portion of the showground without paying admission fee or presenting 2016 Show Ticket, Official Pass or Exhibitors Pass 33. No person shall enter or remain on the showground who may offend against decency as regards language or conduct. 34. No person shall park any vehicle in the showground except at such place or places set apart by the committee. 35. Errors in Catalogue: The Society does not hold itself responsible for any printers' errors that may occur in the catalogue, and entries are accepted on these conditions. 36. Exhibitors' tickets will not be posted unless a stamped addressed envelope is included with entries unless $1 postage fee has been paid 37. The Committee may punish or otherwise penalize any person, competitor, exhibitor, stand holder, organisation or other body whose conduct in the opinion of the Committee is discreditable or injurious to the interests of the Society, or who fails to comply with any rules governing any show or exhibition conducted by the Society, or disregards or fails to observe any direction or decision of any official or judge appointed by the Society. The procedure to be followed when disciplinary action is taken, are those laid down under V.A.S.Ltd Constitution (disqualifications, suspensions and appeals). 38. Any Stallion in yards on either day of the Show, must be tied up. 39. Temporary Yards must be constructed from approved prefabricated panels (no tape). 40. Entries to the Show are accepted subject to the rules and regulations and by-laws of the Society and of the Show; (b) the entrant agrees to be bound by those rules and regulations and by-laws; (c) the entrant also agrees to abide by all decisions made by the Society, by the Group with which it is affiliated or by VAS Ltd pursuant to those rules and regulations and by-laws; and; (d) no decision so made shall be called into question by the entrant before any court or other body (whether or not of a similar nature to a court) whatsoever. 41. The use of tranquillizers, stimulants, or any drug capable of effecting the performance of animals is forbidden. Random swabbing may be performed. 42. The Group Finals for all VAS Ltd Competitions will be judged at a function to be held in May CAMPING: No entrant shall camp on any of the showground s of the societies within the Gippsland Agricultural Societies Association at any time without obtaining permission from the Society concerned NO POWER IS AVAILABLE FOR CAMPING. 44. POWER LEADS: All power leads (extension leads etc) must be tagged and have been tested by an electrician in the last three months. The Society reserves the right to remove and/or destroy all leads in use that do not comply. PARKING: Exhibitors must park in specified areas. The Society reserves the right to shift vehicles that are parked inappropriately; failure to comply may result in disqualification of exhibits. 5

8 46. PERMANENT HORSE YARDS: The use of the Society s permanent horse yards will be allocated on a distance traveled basis and must be requested on entry form and a yard fee of $5.00 per yard paid. In order to plan suitable placement of Stallions, competitors must advise the Secretary if a yard is required for a Stallion. All exhibitors requesting yards will be notified of outcome. 12 The Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd RURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD Aims of the Rural Ambassador Award: To highlight the talent, creativity and ingenuity of young rural Victorians and in doing so encourage entrants to be role models across local communities. To encourage and reward enthusiastic, skilful and industrious young people living or having an involvement in rural environments. To assist all entrants through their participation to develop strong communication and leadership qualities and to directly assist the winner through the support of a bursary. Enable the applicant to gain greater proficiency in their chosen field and also to develop the applicant s stature and reputation in that chosen field. ENTRANTS MUST: Apply by completing an official entry form Contact the Secretary on Ph Provide information indicating their reason for applying for entry together with a curriculum vitae, indicating work experience, community participation and Agricultural Show involvement if applicable. Be aged over 20 and under 30 years at the 1 st May of the year of the State Final. Be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about rural life and affairs and agricultural shows. Be able to spend the required time at the local Show, Group Level finals and the State Final at the Royal Melbourne Show. CRITERIA: Entrants must wear smart casual tailored clothing. Entrants to be judged in accordance with the following guidelines: COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT 15 COUNTRY SHOW INVOLVEMENT 25 GENERAL AND RURAL KNOWLEDGE 20 PERSONALITY 10 AMBITIONS/GOALS 10 COMMUNICATION SKILLS 10 STYLE, GROOMING AND DEPORTMENT 10 PUBLIC PRESENTATION (FINAL SPEECH) 20 TOTAL: 120 POINTS PRIZES: Certificates will be given to winners at local agricultural shows. Regional winners will be provided with an official jacket to wear at the State Final at the Royal Melbourne Show. The State Final winner will receive a major prize, and will have the opportunity to compete in the National Final. 13 The Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd JUNIOR SHOW AMBASSADOR THE COMPETITION AIMS TO: To give young people a chance to take part in a competition while residing in their local district. To be part of a local show and therefore highlighting the importance of Shows. To meet new people from all age groups with the same interests. ENTRANTS MUST: Prepare Resume and submit before local Show or judging day to secretary. Come along as requested for judging by a minimum of 2 judges, which will be a semi-formal interview in which you will be asked questions about yourself and assessed as per Judging Criteria listed below. Winner at local Show will go onto represent their Agricultural Society at the Regional Final. CRITERIA: Entrants must wear smart, casual, tailored clothing and will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines: COMMUNITY/SHOW INVOLVEMENT 20 RURAL AND GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 20 AMBITION AND GOALS 20 COMMUNICATION SKILLS 20 PERSONALITY & CONFIDENCE 10 OVERALL PRESENTATION 10 TOTAL: 100 POINTS PRIZES: Lapel Badges will be given to the winners at local country agricultural shows, regional winners will receive a certificate and the State Final Winner will receive a cash prize. 14 SECTION A. EQUESTRIAN EVENTS Ring Master: Mrs V Hamilton. Ph THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ALTER THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS IF NECESSARY This Society is affiliated with the EA. All jumping events conducted under F.E.I. Rules and all horses and competitors must be registered. Exhibitors must be ready with their exhibits to enter the Judging ring when called. Exhibits not ready may be disqualified. Any exhibit entered by an exhibitor which is considered dangerous, may be removed from the arena by order of the Stewards. The Arena Stewards also have the power to remove unauthorised persons from the arena. ALL ENTRIES ARE PRE-PAID COMPULSARY EXHIBITORS PASS $25 CLOSING DATE: MONDAY, 13th OCTOBER 2017 Late entries accepted on day of show at double fees (MUST be paid in cash). Except for Showjumping Classes which incur $20 late fee.. JURY OF APPEAL: All protests must be lodged in writing with a $30 fee which will be refunded if protest is upheld. Jury of Appeal consists of the President, Chief Steward of Show & Ringmaster. HORSE YARDS : The use of the Society s permanent horse yards will be allocated, following the close of entries on 13 th October, on a distance travelled basis and must be requested on entry form and a yard fee of $5.00 per yard paid. In order to plan suitable placement of Stallions, competitors must advise the Secretary if a yard is required for a Stallion. All exhibitors requesting yards will be notified of outcome. Under no circumstances will the Society accept any unauthorised use of Horse yards. This will result in scratching of your entries. TEMPORARY YARDS must be constructed from approved prefabricated panels (NO TAPE). Horses will be restricted to their allotted area and will not be ridden, driven, or tethered amongst spectators at the risk of forfeiting their entry in any event. Any Classes not commenced by 5.30 p.m. may be cancelled. NOVICE RIDER, HORSE OR PONY: one that has never been placed first (competing singly) at any Agricultural and/or Pastoral Show, which provides general competition. Exhibitors must be prepared to sign a statutory declaration if called upon by the Chief Steward. INTERMEDIATE HORSES: Horses competing in an Intermediate event must not have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd, competing singly at any Royal Show. CHAMPION. Once a horse has successfully won a champion in its first open ring it cannot continue to compete in that equivalent section in other rings during the show. First place getters are eligible to compete in multiple open rings until successful as champion. QUALIFICATIONS. A competitor must choose to enter in classes as either a showhunter or a show horse, but not into both. Once a horse has competed as a show horse or showhunter at its first VAS event in a calendar year it must remain as a show horse or showhunter at VAS competitions for that calendar year. The use of tranquilisers, stimulants, or any drug capable of affecting the performance of animals is forbidden. 12

15 HELMETS: All riders must wear safety Helmets approved to the current Australian, European or American Standard, whilst competing and exercising on any part of the Showgrounds. No other head gear will be permitted. The retaining harness must be secured and fastened at all times. This rule applies to all events, not just under age competition. Arena Classes Only: After a fall, riders are not to remount without first obtaining clearance from First Aid DOGS must be tied up inside floats and trucks or on an leash at all times. SHOWGROUND CAMPING: Campers do so at their own risk. No entrant shall camp on any of the showgrounds of the societies' within the Gippsland Agriculture Societies' Association at any time without obtaining permission from the Society concerned. Campers must have a exhibitors pass and abide by regulations re persons and vehicles. Tickets will be checked by gatekeepers at 6 a.m. and campers issued with verification. Campers must camp within marked area. A charge will be made for persons camping on the ground after midday Sunday, October 29th CAMPERS PLEASE NOTE NO PERMANENT POWER AVAILABLE - Any power leads used must be tagged and have been tested by an electrician in the last three months. The Society reserves the right to remove and/or destroy all untagged leads in use. No power lead is to be positioned outside the perimeter of the vehicle it is connected to. OFFICIAL MEASURER will be available from 7.00 a.m., enquire at Secretary s Office R.A.S. Measurements accepted on presentation. HEIGHT CERTIFICATES Height Certificates may be requested. SWABBING Random Swabbing may be performed. Gates to the grounds will be closed at 9.00pm on Thursday 26th & Friday 27th and re-open at 6.00am on Friday 27th & Saturday 28th. Competitors arriving between these times should contact the Secretary on to make arrangements for the gates to be opened. PRIZE MONEY: Will be distributed by Stewards at the conclusion of judging in each class. Prize Money must be collected on Show day. Prize money not collected on show day becomes the property of the Maffra Agricultural Society. Entry Fees: $4.00 Unless otherwise stated Prize Money: 1st $10.00, 2nd $5.00 Unless otherwise stated Ribbons will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd. Unless otherwise stated 13
