1 Belvoir Bowhunters Newsletter Issue 260 January 2016 The Next Club Meeting Is On Wednesday, January 13, 2015 Start time 6:30 pm President s Message by Bakari Dale Welcome back everyone - I hope you all got a chance to get out in the woods and connect with a bruiser buck. We are now in the Urban Archery season so if you have not gotten out; there is still plenty of time to hunt in Fairfax and Prince William Counties. See you at the meeting on Wednesday the 13th and once again thank you for the privilege of allowing me to serve as your club president for Just a recap of my vision for 2016: GROWTH: I believe Recruitment, Retention and Reengagement should be the core of our growth plan. We are here to serve Fort Belvoir s soldiers and family in the sport of Archery and Bow hunting. It is my core belief that we must continue to attract active duty military members and their family even though the core cadre of our club consist of retirees and non-affiliated members. The Club always needs volunteers. COMMUNICATION: Communication is key for the club to operate properly and it is important for the installation leadership to see our great work and commitment to the soldiers and families of Fort Belvoir. The Club always needs volunteers. We have our first indoor shoot scheduled on January 24th and second shoot scheduled on February 6th. Here is a quick primer on how to shoot indoors and the Indoor Shooting Rules. 1. The Indoor Targets are the paper 40 cm Maple Leaf dull blue/black targets. Either the 40 cm single spot or the five spot 16 cm may be used. COACHING: On a regular basis, members in our club assist the Fort Belvoir ODR and the Wounded Warrior s by providing exceptional instructors to teach the basics of archery. Over the year we have lost a few Instructors due to transfers out of the area. We need more instructors to back fill those ranks. The Club always needs volunteers. COMPETITION: As our sport changes in rules and regulations, state and national organizations, and competitive shooting categories, it is always wonderful to see our archers competing and winning in local, state and national events. It should be our duty to help develop more competitive archers through advanced archery classes and coaching. The Club always needs volunteers.

2 2. The shooting distance will be 20 yards for all archers except Cubs which will be shot from 10 yards. 3. Scoring for the single spot target shall be 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 and the scoring for the 5 spot target shall be 5 and Perfect Game will be a 300 Round, consisting of 60 arrows. The archer will shoot 30 arrow on the top target and 30 arrows on the bottom target. 5. The X rings are part of the official score and will be used as tie breakers. Inside X's should be counted at the last six rounds. Inside X's are arrows inside the X ring that do not touch the X ring. X's and inside X's shall be counted as a tie breaker, but in the event of ties there will be a shoot off as soon as possible after the scores are turned in. Shoot off will consist of X shots until a miss is shot. archery center. Please complete the membership form, recruit new members and reach out to some of the past members. Please get the forms to Larry Readal, club Secretary/Treasurer as soon as you can. Note the price of membership increased this year. If you would like to register at this month s meeting please bring cash, check or credit card with you to the meeting to take care of it. Thanks! Bakari Vice President s Report Vacant looking for a volunteer. Secretary/Treasurer s Report 6. Each game will consist of six ends of 5 arrows per end. 7. The time limit will be four minutes when shooting five arrows. 8. There shall be two practice ends before the start of the first round. 9. There will be 30 min. of practice before the official practice ends for archers, they will use the same 4 min. time limit as the official round. 10. At the end of the sixth end, archers will change from top to bottom or bottom to top. 11. When using a 5 spot target, an archer may shoot the targets in any order and may shoot as many arrows into any spot as they desire, not to exceed the prescribed number of arrows per end. Please see attached flyer and close-up photo of the emblem. Each knife is 40. I plan to submit our order to VBA by the end of January, so they have time to order them and get them back to us after the April VBA Quarterly meeting. They need us to pay up front, which is why I need your money before I can submit the order. If you would like a knife (or several), please let me know! You can mail a check to the address below, or pay me at the Jan meeting, or we can meet somewhere. This is a unique opportunity don t let it pass by!
