3 From The State Madam President Dear Sisters and Brothers, Can it really be April already? March started out with an anniversary celebration at Crystal River #4272. It was so nice of them to do a celebration other than at Midwinter Conference. It was nice to dance and talk with our brothers and sisters without having to hurry back to the conference. And, yes, Elvis was in the Aerie. Cindy Rider and the New Port Richey Aerie and Auxiliary did an outstanding job with the President's Roast. Cindy, you definitely missed your calling as a standup comedian! Thank you to everyone for traveling for the celebration, the nice gifts and donations to the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute. If you missed the Redneck Crusin' Anniversary at Cocoa #3550, you missed one of the best events of the year. The decorations, boutique, general store and especially the games were over the top! Sisters, if you need ideas, contact P.S.P. Donna Delashmet. She never ceases to amaze me with her ideas. Thank you to all for your generous donations to The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute for Pancreatic and Pediatric Research. The State Bowling Tournament is coming up April at Orlando #3496. It should be a lot of fun with food, costumes and prizes. Look for more information in this newsletter. On a sad note, we have lost four auxiliaries since June. The biggest reasons I have heard is lack of officers and volunteers for functions. Sisters, try to get your new sisters interested in becoming an officer or volunteering to help with functions. Never turn down a volunteer. If you have to give them your job, do it. You would be surprised how far someone can go if you just ask them to help. Interviewing committees, try keeping a log of what our new sisters are interested in, like cooking, decorating, etc. and ask them to help. Let's try to be open to new ideas instead of saying, we tried that, it didn't work. Sit with new sisters or ask them to sit with you. Get ideas and help from other Auxiliaries in your districts The up side is that we have a new Aerie being instituted on May 21 in Islamorada. The down side is they are 21 away from a new Auxiliary. Sisters, if you know anyone in that area, please ask them to check it out. I have been told that the rooms are going fast for the Florida State Convention June at the Doubletree in Tampa. Please make your reservations today. Each sister who brings a sister that has never been to convention before will be in a drawing for $100. Let's pack that meeting room!! 7 FLAG CEREMONY AT STATE CONVENTION At the 2017 State Convention in Tampa, we will again have an Opening Flag Ceremony to recognize the Auxiliaries in our state. Each Auxiliary will have a representative carry their flag into the meeting room. It is recommended that the representative be the out-going Madam President from the year. If she is not attending, another sister could be the flag carrier. You may include something on the flag that signifies your area of the state, your Auxiliary's name, or it can just be your name and Auxiliary number. Please be creative! If you had a flag in a previous year's ceremony, you may use the same one. The flag should be rectangle and as close to 11 x 14 inches as possible. (The 11 inches would be the vertical sides and 14 inches, the horizontal sides.) Please include a dowel to extend approximately 18 inches beyond the bottom of the flag. The dowel should be no more than 7/16 inches in diameter in order to fit in the flag holders. On Thursday, prior to the Opening Ceremony at State Convention, the representatives should gather in the hallway outside of the meeting room to line up for the flag presentation. Please complete this form and return it to Barbara Barber, State Secretary. If you have questions, please contact me at amatt32828@aol.com or Thanks and see you at convention!
