Stength does not come easily, but it can be developed and impoved if you concentate on it. As students of the matial ats, we should all concentate on developing ou physical and mental stength. P II YS I CA L: To incease physical stength, you must execise egulaly and stive fo slow and gadual gain. Calisthenics including those done in you classes, pogessive esistance taining and weight taining ae some ways to incease you physical stength. Moal couage, as well as you degee of concentation and intensity, ae also foms of mental stength. Stamina efes to physical and mental enduance. PHYSICAL: To impove you physical stamina o enduance you must pefom aeobic execise egulaly and aise you heat ate 75% of its maximum. Maintain this level fo a minimum of 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times pe week, and you will make pogess towad impoving you stamina and cadiovascula enduance. The following ae some examples of excellent aeobic execises: Matial Ats including Kickboxing, Fast walking, Running, Cycling, Swimming and Coss County Skiing. M ENTAL: In the matial ats, mental stamina is a geat advantage. It's the slight edge that may allow you to out-last an opponent o challenge. Well developed mental stamina will help you lean to look at obstacles and poblems as challenges. It.will pemit you to ovecome these challenges and accomplish you goals.

Always keep in mind that you esponsibility as a matial atist is to develop youself in a positive manne, physically, and mentally. NUTRITION Put good things into you body and you'll ealize good esults. Fill you body with junk food and gabage, and it won't pefom with the pope intensity necessay to each Black Belt level skills and confidence. Poo eating habits esult in lack of enegy, depession and moodiness, as well as excess body fat. Pope eating habits povide you with moe enegy to pefom bette at matial ats, wok and othe activities that you enjoy. Putting the ight "fuel" into you tank will help you maintain a positive and enthusiastic outlook on life. Enegy is povided in the fonn of caloies and these come fom the foods you eat. Basically, foods ae made up of thee goups: Cabohydates, Poteins and Fats. High enegy, "clean buning" caloies come fom foods in the complex cabohydate and potein goups. Good complex cabohydates come fom fuits, vegetables, pasta, ice, and whole gains. Good souces of potein ae chicken, tukey, fish, beans and nuts. Ty to limit you consumption of ed meats (such as beef) and othe high-fat foods. Limited fat intake is desied to achieve a quality fitness level. Also ty to avoid foods high in sodium and suga. Sweets such as candy bas, cakes, and soda tend to give you a shot boost of enegy followed by depession and/o fatigue. It is also impotant to dink plenty of wate (8 to 10 glasses pe day) to eplenish you body with the fluids you bun off (dink exta wate afte heavy wokouts). By egulaly dinking wate you will avoid dehydation and should feel an incease in you enegy level. Needless to say, smoking, consumption of alcohol, and the use of dugs ae totally discouaged. The pupose of this Handbook is to make you stat with ou school easy and comfotable. Included ae class times, people to call fo infomation and ules and stuctue of the school. ATTENDANCE Attendance is the key to pogess. A minimum of two classes pe week ae equied to gain the benefits Pemie Matial Ats offes. CLASS TIMES Please efe to you schedule fo class times. We highly ecommend you attend class at a ate of two to thee times pe week. We also ecommend you attend class on consistent days and times each week to make you attendance with ou school pat of you weekly schedule. If fo some eason you ae not able to attend class we ask you call the school and infom the secetay. NEWSLETTER Please pick up the "Pemie Matial Ats Monthly Newslette" at the counte. The newslette is filled with infomation to educate and assist paents and students. Most upcoming events ae also inseted in the newslette. PARENTS DROPPING OFF THEIR CHILDREN Paents dopping off childen should do so ten minutes pio to the class and pick them up within ten minutes of class ending. The school becomes vey busy aound class times and we can not be esponsible fo watching unattended childen.

5 I THE BELTS Students in Matial Ats show thei pogess in the at by the colo of the belt they wea. Each colo belt is a step towad the goal of Black Belt. Requiements fo each belt diffe fo little champions, kids, teens and adults. Fo little champions and kids we hand out equiement sheets at the beginning of each new cycle o quate. We also have DVD's on sale in the po shop fo additional help and home study. The pogession towads BLACK BELT goes a~ follows -- White, Yellow, Oange, Puple, Blue, Geen, Bown I, Bown 2, Red 1, Red 2, Red 3, Black Belt, 1st Degee Black Belt, etc. Note: Students unde the age of 16 will eceive a Junio Black Belt. TESTING We ae a dual belt anking school, which means ou students ae achieving a belt in not only the Pemie Matial Ats cuiculum but in Kenji-Ryu Kenpo as well. Ex. If you ae a white belt fo instance, on the left side of you belt, you will get a stipes of colo epesenting you PMA anking. On the ight side of you belt, you will have stipes of colo fo you Kenpo anking if you ae in Kicking Kids o Lil Champions. If you ae an Adult o Teen, you belt will be you Kenpo anking and the left side of you belt will be you PMA anking. The pupose of stipe and belt testing is to make sue each student is pogessing on schedule. Testing fo belts and stipes ae done duing the thid week of evey month. Duing cetain times of the yea we must change testing week, so please watch announcements. Duing the second week of the month students will have a last eview on Monday and Tuesday then Wednesday o Thusday ou students take a pogess check duing thei egula class time. Fo each pogess check the student passes they will eceive a colo stipe on thei belt. Kids, adults and teens, in the beginning stages of the pogam will eam thei next colo belts afte thee stipes. PAYMENTS Students who budget thei pogams will make payments diectly to ASF Intenational. ASF is a billing company and has full esponsibility of all collections of tuition. We highly suggest students aange avoid this. DRESS Student unifom consists of a white Pemie Matial Ats unifom plus a belt. All students must wea a full unifom o the unifom pants, belt, and one of ou school t-shits to all classes. VIEWING CLASSES Paents ae encouaged to watch classes. All we ask is that you espect the class by emaining quiet and that if you ae binging younge childen with you that you keep them quiet and unde contol. Guests ae welcome to come and watch the classes also. Howeve, only students ae pemitted on the classoom floo, so please infom you guests of the school's potocol. BLACK BELT TRAINING, PREMIER, AND LEADERSHIP COURSES The MASTER'S CLUB, ages 11 & up, is a special two yea membeship fo those students who wish to tain and eceive thei black belt. The cuiculum taught is moe extensive than that of the Basic Taining Couse. Students will lean and tain in equied foms and spaing, as well as lean jump and spinning kicks. Students may upgade fom the Basic Taining Couse to the MASTER'S CLUB Taining couse at any time. Once you Basic Pogam expies enollment in the MASTER'S CLUB is mandatoy. Students who ae looking fo additional taining in taditional matial ats weapons o tools ae invited to join ou BLACKBELT CLUB. Eventually you may wish to take you taining to a new level and become an assistant instucto o an instlucto. We have a vey intensive Leadeship Pogam to help you meet that goal. S.W.A.T. The Special Winning Attitude Team consists of students fom the Black Belt Taining Couse. You must be asked to be a pat of the team by you Instuctos. Duties ofthe S.W.A.T. team include helping with classes, demonstations, competition and assisting with special events.

9 Ou school is a BLACK BELT SCHOOL, meaning it's ou goal to guide evey student to that level. One of the most impotant ways we begin this jouney is though coutesy and espect. We pactice this by: I. When students ente the school they should geet the peson behind the counte with a "Hello Si" o "Hello Ma'am" 2. We show espect to the school and instuctos by "Bowing" when enteing and leaving the wokout aea. 3. When you aive please sit in the back of the oom as not to distub a class in session. 4. If you aive late fo class, please wait at the edge of the mat until the instucto acknowledges you and call you onto the wokout aea. 5. If the instucto is talking and wants you to have a seat he will announce the command "Lock It Up". Students then sit legs cossed, hands on knees, back staight, chin up and eyes on the instucto. 6.
