3 l I t l I. l l FoR almost a centuy, the Main Line of Philadelphia has been wold enowned fo the natual be<tuty of its olling county, magnificent estates, and heitage of gacious living. The home you ae about to see is one of the few emaining examples of the best in colonial achitectue. The owne wanted both pivacy and convenience. He also wanted an authentic Pennsylvania famhouse. Afte two yeas of fuitless seaching fom Admoe to Phoenixville, he finally puchased a pacel of gound (6.% aces) in Byn Maw. The gound is olling and histoic Mill Ceek uns though it. The house was placed to povide a damatic view of the gounds and to etain a magnificent foest of tees and its natual woods planting. It sits back moe than 700 feet fom the oad and cannot be seen except in the middie of winte when many of the tees have shed thei leaves. It is five minutes fom the Byn Maw station of the Pennsylvania Raiload, with the quickest and most fequent commute sevice of almost any subub-about 20 minutes to the cente of Philadelphia. The house was designed by G. Edwin Bumbaugh, who is ecognized as the outstanding authoity on estoation of ou finest authentic Pennsylvania colonial homes. It is a sophisticated Pennsylvania colonial famhouse typical of the mid-eighteenth centuy. The lines ae simple and functional, onament is u ~ed spaingly and with studied cae. The house has a geneous hall and sepaate staicase which give pivacy and individuality to the ooms. Thee is a wine cella in the basement, close by a lage Pennsylvania Dutch oom teated pimitively, u~ing ed woodwok and whitewashed walls chaacteistic of ealy ual houses. The fa wing of the house contains an all-yea-ound indoo swimming pool with lage glass sliding doos. To make this an integal pat of the home, the ovehead tusses and ceiling ae famed in wood in typical Pennsylvania Dutch manne. Thee ae two lage dessing ooms with closets and showes. The basic engineeing fo this wing was done by Chales Leopold, a national authoity in this field. The house has fou teaces-a dining teace ovelooking the woods and steam, a smalle teace with ovehead beams fom a 200-yea-old!ban upstate, a sun teace on one side of the pool, and anothe aftenoon shaded teace on the othe side. The landscaping is the wok of Thomas W. Seas and the gounds have been constantly attended by him and his associates since the house was built. Nothing but the finest of mateials wee used in the building which was done by Raymond Lukens and J. S. Conell & Son.

4 l I The popety has a lage fontage on Robets and Old Gulph Roads. The following photogaph shows the entance on Robets Road. This fontage is enclosed by a split-ail fence. The dive is atistically planted with ed maples, dogwood, a goup of sou-wood and hemlocks. As you appoach the main entance to the house, thee is a gouping of thee apple tees. Flowe bodes with old-fashioned flowes and a magnificent collection of Specimen Fench Hybid lilacs ae on both sides of the oad.

6 ) ~ '.. { ( t l. L f The main entance is famed by two lage English box bushes. On eithe side ae unusually ae examples of lage English hollies that bea an unbelievable numbe of ed beies. On the fa side of the cicula dive is a complete sceen of hemlocks, dogwood, mountain lauel and hododendons.

8 { L The following page shows a close-up of the swimming pool wing. The lage glass doos slide back on the sun teace which is planted with Specimen English hollies. Beyond the Fanklin lanten ae two Japanese camelias-one that blooms in the sping and the sasanqua which blooms in the fall.

10 f { ( (. L L Next is a view looking up fom the banks of Mill Ceek to the house. The gounds hee ae beautifully planted with evey conceivable native flowe and bush. Thee is a notable gouping of beautiful azaleas, fens and bulbs. L l

Two Byant heates supply the heat fo the swimming pool oom and fo the heating of the wate. All machiney is pactically foolpoof and is contolled by egulatos of the best type.
