1 Cumberland River Flood Preparedness Mapping and Products Barry P. Moran, P.E. Hydraulic Engineer Nashville District September 2013 US Army Corps of Engineers BUILDING STRONG
2 Authority: As a result of the devastating flood of May 2010, Congress provided funding to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to update flood profiles and improve flood warning and preparedness in the Middle Tennessee region. Collaborative effort amongst several federal partners and local communities
3 Goals: Aid federal, state, and local officials to prepare for and respond to flooding along the Cumberland River and its tributaries Provide effective tools that relate National Weather Service (NWS) predictions of flood stage at specific gages to where flooding is likely occur along the river. Provide a better understanding of historical flooding in the Cumberland River Basin Provide information in different formats (paper, digital and data products) for various users BUILDING STRONG
