I am pleased to report that the NCPA Foudatio Board of Trustees early i 2007 developed a strategic pla that represets the Foudatio s visio of how it will look ad fuctio i the future ad how this will be accomplished. The goal is to create sigificat, cohesive growth i the NCPA Foudatio to assure our competitive advatage i the health care marketplace ad to pipoit how the Foudatio ca best support NCPA ad idepedet commuity pharmacy. The Foudatio is oe of NCPA s greatest resources, ad we wat to make certai this resource is maximized to its fullest potetial. The ew strategic pla has seve major focus areas: Fudig Maagemet Processes Proactive Commuicatios Studet Relatios Public Beefit Research Educatio This year, 2007, is my last as Foudatio presidet. I have resiged after seve years i this role so my wife, Becky, ad I ca travel more ad sped time with our gradchildre who are scattered aroud the coutry. I am pleased that the NCPA Foudatio Board of Trustees elected Sharlea Leatherwood, the NCPA presidet, to succeed me. She is a seasoed leader who I kow will successfully maage the implemetatio sequece of the Foudatio s ew strategic pla. I will cotiue to serve o the Board ad assist i ay way I ca. 3 Securig Idepedet Pharmacy s Future A major focus of the NCPA Foudatio is support for pharmacy schools ad studets. I that regard, 2007 was o exceptio more tha $300,000 was distributed for studet aid. The followig pages describe this wide-ragig support ad how the NCPA Foudatio helps expose studets to the multitude of etrepreeurial opportuities i commuity pharmacy. New Scholarship Hoorig Neil Pruitt, Sr. Established The NCPA Foudatio has established a ew pharmacy studet scholarship that will be awarded based o leadership, academic achievemet, ad a demostrated iterest i etrepreeurism. The Neil Pruitt, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was aouced durig the 109th Aual NCPA Covetio ad Trade Expositio held October 13-17, 2007 i Aaheim, Califoria. We are thakful for the geerosity of the Pruitt family for establishig this scholarship i memory of the late Neil Pruitt, Sr. This scholarship will remid us of Neil s dedicatio to idepedet pharmacy ad the NCPA Foudatio. His spirit of etrepreeurism will serve as a lastig role model for pharmacy studets, said Charles West, PD, Foudatio presidet. The scholarship will begi durig the academic year ad will be awarded to oe pharmacy studet o a idividual basis. The studet must be a studet member of NCPA ad erolled i a accredited U.S. school or college of pharmacy o a full-time basis durig the 2008 fall term ad 2009 sprig term. The award is amed i hoor of Neil Pruitt, Sr., a pillar of the idepedet pharmacy commuity, who was killed i a tragic car accidet i Pruitt served as presidet of NCPA, the NARD, i ad was a Trustee o the NCPA Foudatio board. Pruitt grew his compay, Uited Health Services, from a sigle idepedet pharmacy i ortheast Georgia ito a multifaceted health care orgaizatio with operatios i several southeaster states. Studet Busiess Pla Competitio Edowmet Fud Campaig The NCPA Foudatio has lauched a campaig to grow the NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Studet Busiess Pla Competitio Edowmet Fud. We are pleased ad excited by the atiowide ethusiasm geerated by the NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Busiess Pla Competitio, says Charles West, PD, NCPA Foudatio presidet. We pla to broade this ethusiasm ad stregthe the impact of the competitio for future pharmacy etrepreeurs by buildig upo the fudig started by the Pruitt ad Schutte families. Lookig toward the future, West cotiues, our pharmacy colleagues ca help isure the positive mometum of the busiess pla competitio ad ifluece tomorrow s pharmacists with a cotributio to the NCPA Foudatio Busiess Pla Competitio Edowmet Fud. It is our hope that we ca cotiue to cultivate a busiess aptitude i pharmacy studets ad provide a pathway for developig pharmacy owers ad etrepreeurs. A team from Washigto State Uiversity came i secod, ad a team represetig the Uiversity of Washigto fiished third. Team members from the Uiversity at Buffalo were Alexadra T. Cetoo, team captai Kathry Joes, Christia Ramsay, ad Liliaa Yoho. Karl D. Fiebelkor was the team s adviser. The team receives $3,000 for its NCPA studet chapter, ad a additioal $3,000 is cotributed to the school i the dea s ame to promote idepedet pharmacy. NCPA Presidet Joh Tilley, RPh, aouced the results of the competitio durig the Opeig Geeral Sessio. The teams were hoored at the NCPA Foudatio s Award Ceremoy. The NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Studet Busiess Pla Competitio is the first atioal competitio of its kid i the pharmacy professio ad is amed to hoor two champios of idepedet pharmacy, the late Neil Pruitt Sr. ad H. Joseph Schutte. The competitio is supported by the Pruitt ad Schutte families, the NCPA Foudatio, ad Covidie (formerly Mallickrodt Pharmaceuticals). This is the fourth year the competitio has bee held, drawig etries from 32 schools ad colleges of pharmacy early oe-third of all U.S. pharmacy schools. The workshops are a uique opportuity specifically desiged for pharmacists cosiderig pharmacy owership or desirig additioal maagemet skills. Through the workshops, pharmacists develop the tools they eed to ow their ow pharmacy. More tha 50 percet of past workshop participats ow are pharmacy owers. 9 Recogizig Outstadig Leadership Leatherwood Named New Foudatio Presidet I October, the NCPA Foudatio Board of Trustees selected Sharlea Leatherwood, PD, as the ew presidet of the NCPA Foudatio. Sharlea has bee a dedicated commuity pharmacist ad member of NCPA ad the NCPA Foudatio for over 20 years. We are pleased to have her o board as presidet ad look forward to her work to expad the foudatio, icrease its philathropy, ad icrease its support of commuity pharmacists, said Bruce Roberts, RPh, NCPA executive vice presidet ad CEO. Leatherwood graduated from the Uiversity of Missouri at Kasas City School of Pharmacy i August, 1981, bought her first pharmacy the ext May, ad the joied NCPA. She became NCPA s first woma officer i 1989 ad its first woma presidet i I additio to servig o the NCPA Foudatio Board of Trustees, she was a foudig board member of the Natioal Istitute for Pharmacist Care Outcomes (NIPCO), NCPA s disease state maagemet educatio arm, servig as chair for four years; ad also a foudig board member of Commuity Care Rx SM, which NCPA helped establish i 2006 as a Medicare Part D prescriptio drug pla. I am hoored that the NCPA Foudatio Board of Trustees had the cofidece to select me as their ew presidet, says Leatherwood. Together, we will cotiue to carry o the importat strategic iitiatives the board started uder the leadership of Charlie West. Leatherwood serves o the Pharmacists Mutual Advisory Board, as a adjuct professor at her alma mater, ad as the curret secretary for the Missouri Pharmacy Foudatio. She is a member of the America College of Apothecaries, America Society of Cosultat Pharmacists, ad the UMKC Alumi Associatio. Leatherwood has also served as the chair of the Natioal Associatio of Boards of Pharmacy Collaborative Practice Task Force ad o the America College of Pharmacy Educatio PharmD Curriculum Revisio Committee. I additio, she is a past presidet of both the Missouri Pharmacists Associatio ad the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. The former NCPA presidet is succeedig Charles West, PD, who will remai as a NCPA Foudatio board trustee. West has served as the NCPA Foudatio presidet sice 2000 ad also previously served as NCPA executive vice presidet from 1984 to Joh W. Dargavel Medal Loie Holligsworth, PD, is the 2007 Joh W. Dargavel Medal wier. Loie s commitmet to pharmacy at every level with studets, with his ow pharmacy ad with NCPA is without questio, said Charles West, PD, NCPA Foudatio Presidet. He has set a example of commitmet ad professioalism that is highly deservig of the Dargavel Medal. Holligsworth, a presidet of NCPA, owed ad operated L&H Drugs i Lubbock, Texas ad is the curret chairma of the board for L&H Pharmacies, Ic. ad a board member of the Commuity Pharmacy Foudatio. He is also the former presidet of L&H Home Health Care, L&H Home Health Service Nursig Agecies ad L&H Medical Supply Home Health Ceter. I additio to beig a member of NCPA for over 50 years, Holligsworth is also a member of the Texas Pharmacy Associatio, the West Texas Pharmacy Associatio, the Texas Pharmacy Foudatio, the America Foudatio for Pharmacy Educatio, ad the Pharmacy Freedom Fud, where he has held umerous elected ad appoited positios. Prior to beig hoored with the Dargavel Medal, Holligsworth has received other awards ad accolades, icludig Texas Pharmacist of the Year (i 1981 ad agai i 2001), the Texas Pharmacy Associatio Distiguished Service Award, the West Texas Pharmacy Associatio Heritage Award, the Outstadig Achievemet i the Professio of Recogizig Outstadig Leadership

10 Pharmacy Award, ad the William J. Sheffield Outstadig Uiversity of Texas School of Pharmacy Alumi Award. Corporate Recogitio Award MemberHealth, LLC is the 2007 NCPA Corporate Recogitio Award wier. The award is sposored by the NCPA Foudatio ad recogizes compaies for their support of idepedet pharmacy. Workig with MemberHealth through CCRx has offered pharmacists a proactive alterative to help level the Part D playig field, said Bruce Roberts, RPh, executive vice presidet ad CEO of NCPA. MemberHealth s dedicatio to aligig the iterests of the Medicare Part D, the patiet, ad the pharmacist has cotributed to CCRx beig the fourth-largest Part D provider i the atio. MemberHealth s commitmet to commuity pharmacy is fouded i its belief that a pharmacist-drive beefit is key to a successful pharmacy beefit. I 2004, NCPA joied with MemberHealth to create Commuity CCRx SM to provide a Medicare-approved drug discout card.
