2 Chapter Directors Hello Fellow Wingers and Wingettes: Michael & I participated in the 39 th Annual World of Wheels March 4, 2016 thru March 6, 2016 with Kevin Woods of Veteran Trikes. Our only competition was the Harley Davidson also with a CSC Kit that Kevin had just finished building. The Harley belongs to Woodrow Sloan of Inez, KY. Our Fireball II received a 1 st Place Trophy. Thanks to those of you whom stopped by to see us. We made new Friends- Kevin & Brook and Josh and we also saw old Friends. While there in the Show Darin Allen pin striped our CSC Trike Kit. Monday March 7, 2016 Michael and Sunny Luthy took their Trikes down to Harmon Motorsports for the Safety Recall Repair. The next day they went down and got their Trikes. Friday March 11, 2016 we had our Ponderosa in the Green Room for the month of March only to accommodate our visitors from Breezeburg, PA (PA-W). After 3 years of attempting to go to Hillbilly Hot Dogs ten of their members finally made it. Mable Washington made us Honorary Members of their Chapter by presenting us with their T-shirt. Rosalie had everyone participate in a Marshmallow and Chop Stick Game. It was hilarious. Willie & Rosalie brought us new members Joe & Carolyn. This was their first Gathering and being around all of us Wingers. Joe s ticket was drawn for a Door Prize and he attempted to take our 1 st Place World of Wheels Trophy but I wouldn t let him. Also there were 2 visitors from WV-H (Charleston) Richard & Clara. Thanks to everyone that brought a Door Prize and we appreciate our members as well as all the visitors for attending our Gathering. A good time was had by all. Be sure to come to our Gathering because you never know what you are missing. We will be having our Fun Day on Saturday May 14, the CSX Park in Huntington, WV from 10:00 am-2:00pm. We will discuss the final preparations at our next Gathering. April th Spring Fling Pigeon Forge, TN. All of us will be Inn South. May st Region Ride Mother State Park in Marion, VA Michael & I and Barry & Joyce plan on going but I am unsure where we will be staying. Since there was no interest shown in us going to the Appalachian Power Baseball Game maybe some of us would want to attend the Ohio District Rally in Canfield, OH on Saturday June 18 th. July 22 thru July 23, 2016 we will be attending our WV Rally in Summersville. Michael & I will be riding there on Friday and staying at least for Friday Baymont Inn. GWRRA is like any organization that you belong to and participate in. The more Gatherings and Rallies that you attend and the more Rides you go on the more FRIENDS YOU WILL MAKE. The more FUN YOU WILL HAVE. The more knowledgeable YOU WILL BECOME concerning SAFETY and you by yourself or you and your co-rider riding your motorcycle will feel more comfortable while riding. Michael & I appreciate all of the support that has been show to us by each of you since we have become WV-C Chapter Directors. Please keep those that are ill and those that have lost loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as well as our 4 legged children. It has been a long day working, fixing Dinner,

11 Riders Ed Limits One of the most important concepts taught in any of our courses is that to ride safely, responsible motorcyclists know and ride within the limits of their abilities. To ride safely, one must know the limits of their abilities, their motorcycle s capabilities, the environment in which they ride, and the traffic laws. Once a rider understands this, they must take responsibility for operating within those limits. Each of our classes has twelve students in them. Each is an individual with different strengths and weaknesses. As we work through each exercise, each student is coached to bring them to their highest potential. All leave the course with different levels of abilities. We tell all of our students to go out and practice what they have learned. We tell them that they will get more proficient with practice. Practice makes perfect. Didn t all of our teachers tell us that? It worked for math, reading, and penmanship. It works for motorcycling too, but one must always remember the original concept of staying within their limits. Don t be in such a rush to jump ahead of yourself, especially if you are being pushed by external forces. When you go beyond your limits, there are two things that can happen. One is that you could have an accident and get hurt. The other is that you could almost have an accident. Both may scare you enough that you never ride again. So, here are some pointers for staying within your limits- Don t let anyone talk you into buying a motorcycle that is too much for you. Start small, work your way up. There are plenty of good- looking small cc bikes out there. In a year or two you will be ready to upgrade to larger and faster. Stay in parking lots if you don t feel ready for the road. Choose the days and times you ride. Avoid rush hour if possible. Don t ride faster than you are comfortable with. Tell your friends that you ll meet them at the next rest area. Choose your route carefully. Avoid roads with construction or heavy traffic patterns. The more scenic route is nicer anyhow. Dress appropriately. The more comfortable you are, the more you will be able to concentrate on the tasks involved in riding. Carry extra riding gear in case the weather changes. Look at a map before you get started and carry it with you. Lost on the highway is not cool and it can be scary getting on and off exits trying to find your way. If you were a passenger before, remember that you got on the front of that motorcycle in order to control your own destiny. So do it! Don t allow anyone to push you beyond your limits. Ride with other people who have taken a course, and you will have similar riding techniques. Untrained rider s reactions are harder to predict. Ride in a staggered formation and always give yourself plenty of room.

12 Always expect the unexpected. The unexpected could be unpleasant. All surprises on a motorcycle should be pleasant ones. Always do a pre-ride check. Read motorcycle books and magazines to learn as much as you can about motorcycling. Come back and take another course. We offer three different courses. Even experienced motorcyclists take the ERC every year or two. If you have questions, you can send them to us via mail, fax or , and one of the instructors will give you our opinion.
