AT THE BAR with Theo & Digger Once again for the 2016 season, local footy fans Theo and Digger return to give their views and opinions on BFL footy each week, from the comfort of the Sports Bar at the Ballarat Leagues Club! Theo: What s up Dig, you look a bit down in the mouth today old son? Digger: Nothing wrong mate, just this bloody cold getting to me at the moment it s a great week to take off and find some sunshine, not that I know anyone in footy that would get the chance given how busy things would be in footy circles at this time of the year. T: Easy cure mate, head into the Bistro, order from the lunch menu and sit by the open fire. D: Or I could just swallow down a pot of concrete and get on with life mate! T: Or there s that too!! Reasonably interesting week in the BFL last week mate? D: Didn t have the excitement of other weeks, but there was a couple of things to raise the eyebrows. T: Such as? D: East Point knocking over Sunbury certainly raised the eyebrows. The Roos have all of the talent in the world, but for some reason can t put it together on a weekly basis. Reckon they ll sneak into sixth spot now, which could be ominous for whoever finishes third? T: Sixth spot? Aren t Darley in the mix too? D: They are, but their run home is filthy of their remaining seven games, they play each of the current top six teams on their current form, they won t get there. T: What about Melton, they re around the mark too. D: Can t hack it against the good teams mate, they showed that on the weekend. They had a chance to beat Darley, but couldn t do it. Looks like the same old Melton to me talk a strong game over the pre-season, get the local papers to act as cheerleaders for them, come out and win some games early but fall in a heap once the weather starts getting cold. T: You really are angry this week aren t you? Maybe I should see about getting that cup of concrete for you, but in the meantime, let s start on this week s matches with Ballarat taking on Melton South. D: The Swans aren t tracking all that badly at the moment despite not having much to show for it in the win/loss column one bad quarter cost them against Melton a fortnight ago and they were within striking distance of North City at three quarter time last week. They should get the job done today, although they wouldn t want to rest on the laurels of the past couple of weeks, or the Panthers could just bite them. T: What about the two teams you mentioned earlier, East Point taking on Darley? D: These two teams just plain don t like each other, as I saw firsthand when they played last year, and it s such an important game for both sides. If Darley lose this, they re in real trouble of missing the finals, especially as it gives their closest rival for a top-six position a leg up on them. Devils need to act like Taylor Swift, shake it off and give their best performance of the year. T: Really, you went there? D: Hey, T-Swizz is my girl, leave her alone so what if she s had more boyfriends than I ve had hot dinners. T: Or cold showers, in your case, as you definitely need one. Moving on, can Melton give your Lakers their first loss for the season this weekend? D: Short answer no. Long answer no bloody way, not as long as my arse is pointing to the ground. Melton is too inconsistent and the Lakers midfield will chop them to ribbons. T: North Ballarat City take on Sunbury at Eureka Stadium in what should be quite the interesting clash. D: My word it will be this is where I ll be on Saturday arvo as I reckon this will be a ripper. Sunbury will be stinging after letting one slip at the hands of East Point last week, and another loss today just about kisses goodbye to their top three hopes I would feel. North City took a bit to shake Ballarat last week, as I mentioned earlier, but in the end got the job done nicely, and they ll be looking forward to getting back onto Eureka Stadium where they seem to play much better footy. Northies will win. T: Last one for this week, Sebastopol taking on Bacchus Marsh. D: Bacchus Marsh have fairly well owned the Burras in recent years T: That s no newsflash mate D:...but they might find the going tough at the Sebastopol Swimming Pool I mean, Marty Busch Reserve today. The Burras parlayed similar conditions into a win over the Marsh s cross-town cousins a couple of weeks ago, and whilst this Bacchus Marsh side is much better than what they ve been in recent years, if the Burras can get off to another strong start then try and shut it down, the Cobras could get quite a surprise. T: So you re tipping Sebastopol then? D: No, tipping the Marsh as long as they come switched on and ready to fire. T: Speaking of ready to fire, we might get fired if you don t tone it down a bit next week. D: Highly doubt it mate, we make this Record readable every week they re not touching us!!! 4 BFNL RECORD

ROUND 11 FOOTBALL PREVIEW by Shaun Kelly Regular readers to this column every week will know that my intro game hasn t been on point this year, with clichés galore and constant banter about the closeness of the Red Onion Creative Ballarat Football Netball League, shameless sponsor plugs like that one and just generally meh content. Hence why I thought I d change it up this week, forego the standard intro and just jump straight into looking at this week s games in another big week of BFNL footy (there I go with the clichés again!) Both BALLARAT and MELTON SOUTH could fit themselves into the honourable loss category last weekend the Swans were within five goals of a good North Ballarat City side at three-quarter time last week before being held goalless in the final quarter to eventually go down by 62 points, whilst the winless Panthers were just 19 points adrift of the undefeated Lake Wendouree at half time last week, but could only manage one second-half goal as the Lakers knocked them over by 59 points. Both teams are very young, and a glance at their best players last week confirms that, with Tyler Constable, Will Garner and Mitch Bishop amongst the Swans best players, and Michael Callus and William Thornton- Gielen again in the Panthers top six. There s no doubt that Melton South coach Mark Pedersen will trek down the highway this week confident of returning home with their first win of the season, but on the other hand if Ballarat can eliminate the one dud quarter that has plagued them in the last fortnight, Ash Baker will also be confident of his side s third win of the year. PREDICTION: At home, BALLARAT should be able to sing their song at the conclusion of today s play. Huge game at the Eastern Oval this week as EAST POINT take on DARLEY in what is very much the Match of the Round given that both teams won last week, both teams are sitting on the same number of premiership points straddling the top six and, as it looks at the moment, there s only one finals spot available for these two teams to slide in to. East Point s roller-coaster season took an upward swing last weekend as they knocked over Sunbury at Clarke Oval by four points in what could be considered as an upset win given the Roos formline this season. Coach Glenn Wilkins swung the changes last weekend and it paid dividends, with the returning Brad Whittaker booting three goals and Ben Lusby, returning from a concussion at VFL level, outstanding through the middle of the ground. Darley also got back onto the winners list last week, surviving a final-quarter scare from Melton to record a 25 point win and keep them breathing down the neck of the Roos in sixth spot, thanks in large part to Dane Grenfell returning to his late 2015 form with four goals, Darren Leonard playing his best game for the season down back and reigning Henderson Medallist Steven Kennedy instrumental through the middle of the ground. Here s two teams that tend to match up pretty well with each other, so it s the little advantages that you have to look for. Roo ruckman Paul Kodorenko is in great form in the ruck at the moment, but young Abe Cameron throws a bit of youth at him this week, and with both teams having star-studded midfields, this could be pivotal again. Big game for the Devils their remaining seven games have them playing all six sides above them, so a win today is crucial for their hopes of defending their premiership. PREDICTION: Just think that EAST POINT at home have the wood over the Devils, and could put a dent in their back-to-back title hopes. MELTON are also searching for that sixth spot on the ladder, sitting equal with sixth-placed East Point but with a big percentage gap after their 25 point loss to Darley last week, and they face a tough task today as the undefeated LAKE WENDOUREE make their second trip to Melton in as many weeks after knocking over Melton South at the Rec Reserve by 59 points last week. Brad Murphy s Bloods need to find some consistency in their game should they want to cause an upset win today the last fortnight has seen them play some of their best football of the year in patches, but only for a quarter at the most, and they ll need more than that against a Lakers side that could have a couple of key movers in Nathan Pring and Scott Carey return to the side today. PREDICTION: Can t see LAKE WENDOUREE dropping this one, although the Bloods could make life difficult for them throughout the day. NORTH BALLARAT CITY take on SUNBURY in a pretty big game at Eureka Stadium today, with both teams in the middle of the fourteam pack sitting on 28 premiership points from 2nd to 5th on the ladder, and a win giving some separation in the hunt for a topthree spot. North City were made to work for their ten goal win against Ballarat last week, only really icing the game in the last quarter when they kicked the only five goals of the term, whilst Sunbury were left disappointed and slightly embarrassed when their fourteen second-half scoring shots returned them 2.12, allowing East Point to turn a twelve-point half time deficit into a four-point win, costing the Lions a golden opportunity to move a game clear inside the top two. Whilst this marks the Lions last home-and-away trip to Ballarat this year, they couldn t ask for a much toughter assignment, given how well North City play Eureka Stadium and the goalkicking form of the Northies at the moment, with coach Jordyn Burke kicking goals as a high half-forward and Derick Micallef doing his thing behind him. PREDICTION: Won t be much in this one, but NORTH BALLARAT CITY will get a narrow win in front of their home crowd SEBASTOPOL will be looking for their third win of the season as they welcome BACCHUS MARSH to Marty Busch Reserve today, with the Burras outclassed by Redan to the tune of 70 points last week, whilst the Cobras watched on with interest during their bye week. Conditions are likely to be fairly heavy at Marty Busch Reserve today, with Burras coach Shane Snibson commenting on the BFNL Footy Show this week that he was looking forward to giving the Cobras the Marty Busch experience on a ground that has held no fears for Bacchus Marsh in recent years. Look for Damian Cupido to have a big impact today since his explosive start to his career at Maddingley Park, the former Essendon and Brisbane big man has been held quiet, and he ll be chomping at the bit to have a big day today. PREDICTION: This won t be a shoot-out by any means, but BACCHUS MARSH should have enough to get them over the line today. 8 BFNL RECORD

ROUND 11 NETBALL PREVIEW by Shaun Kelly As you may have read in my Footy Preview this week, this intro paragraph has been my Achilles heel in recent weeks an uninspired paragraph of clichéd prose, general drivel and a lot of Eddie McGuire-style what a big week we have coming up in netball kind of stuff. So this week, as with the footy page, I m dropping the normal intro this week and concentrating on looking at some very interesting games we have on tap in the BGT A Grade netball competition this weekend. BALLARAT face a must-win game today against MELTON SOUTH at Alfredton Oval, after finding things a bit too hot to handle against North City last week, especially when the Northies dropped a 23 goal to eight third quarter on the Swans last week on the way to an win that has the Swans now sitting a game outside of the top six. They ll start favourites today against the Panthers, although they can t afford to take them easily, as Mel Climas will be confident that her girls can break their season duck today after an impressive showing against Lake Wendouree last week, especially early, with the added bonus of Alexis Climas not only returning to the side, but also shooting at above 80%, meaning that Swans defenders Chelsea McMahon and Abbey Wiltshire can t afford to lapse today. PREDICTION: BALLARAT should win this one, with the emphasis on should, but they can t afford to take Melton South lightly at all. EAST POINT take on a DARLEY side at the Eastern Oval today that kept their faint finals hopes alive last week with an impressive win over Melton, pulling away in the last quarter after leading by just a goal at each of the three major breaks in the game. They ll need to take the confidence gained from that win into today though, as East Point were clinical in their game against Sunbury last week, leading 22-9 at half time before cruising to a win that again showed how tough they are to score against, especially with Kate McLeod in scintillating form at the moment. There s no doubting that the Devils will back themselves in today, they ve been fantastic all season long with their efforts and the way they ve played games out, but it s going to be a tough ask against arguably the in-form team in the league at the moment. PREDICTION: EAST POINT to keep their phenomenal season rolling with another win. MELTON s flickering finals flame was all but extinguished last week as Darley got away from them in the last quarter of what was a close contest all day the Bloods trailed by just one goal at each of the breaks in play for the day before the Devils bounded away in the final quarter to a win. It doesn t get any easier this week as they welcome LAKE WENDOUREE to Maccy Park, with the Lakers coming off a hard-fought win over a plucky Melton South last week, with Katie Williams starring for the green machine to the point where she was awarded this week s Stockland Wendouree Player of the Week for her efforts. The Bloods are playing for little more than pride at the moment, and they face a tough task against a Lakers side that not only boast an amazing amount of experience and talent through their midcourt, but also who had shooter Chrissy James missing just two of her 34 shots last week, getting her into some fantastic form ahead of this week s game. PREDICTION: LAKE WENDOUREE to be too strong, but after the Bloods give them a hard time early. NORTH BALLARAT CITY look to keep their year-and-a-half long undefeated streak intact today as they face their 2015 Grand Final opponent SUNBURY at Eureka Stadium today, with the Northies coming off an impressive win over Ballarat last weekend that saw both Jordyn Bibby (65 goals in a best on court performance) and Gina McCartin both shoot at well over 80% last week, and the Lions going down to the white-hot East Point last week, which on the surface looks allright, but they struggled in goals, connecting on just 61% of their attempts for the day. It won t get any easier for the Lions this week the presence of Bibby and McCartin means that skipper Beck Anstey is likely going to have to spend time in defence to mind them instead of under their own goal ring, and with the game being played in Ballarat, they won t see Amy Starzer join them this week, who has duties of her own in Sunbury. PREDICTION: Annie s Angels to record the same result they did on that One Day in September last year a NORTH BALLART CITY win A confident SEBASTOPOL side takes on BACCHUS MARSH at Marty Busch Reserve today after the Burras scored another important victory last weekend, ending Redan s six-game winning streak with a one-goal win at City Oval after a close game ended with Redan captain Emma Henry missing an after-the-buzzer penalty shot to keep the Burras a game clear inside the top six, and a chance to consolidate that further today against a Cobras side that had the week off last week, but who will travel to Ballarat confident of recording their second victory of the year after a recent run of impressive form. Ally Symons has been one of the keys to that form under the Cobras goal ring, and her battle with Sebastopol GK Nikki Allen will be a feature of this game, and whilst the Cann sisters teamed well in goals again, their shooting percentages were down, and it was the introduction of Stephanie Townsend into goals in the second half that helped the Burras maintain their advantage all game long. PREDICTION: Not by as much as most people think, but SEBASTOPOL will keep their purple patch of form going for another week. 10 BFNL RECORD

A MESSAGE FROM WORKSAFE AFL VICTORIA COUNTRY Vic Country Poised for Community Cup Clash Country Victoria s proud history of punching above its weight when it comes to representative football will be put to the test next weekend when it goes headto-head against a formidable Vic Metro outfit in the 2016 AFL Victoria Community Cup. After nearly twenty years at the helm of Victorian country football at senior and junior level, Knights believes it s time for a fresh face. It s time for a new head, said Knights, maybe someone younger with new ideas to do things a bit differently. It s been a fantastic experience, and it s a fantastic opportunity for the best of Vic Country to play against the best of Vic Metro. Keen to rectify the ledger after losing to Vic Metro by 38-points when the sides last met in 2014, Knights is confident this year s Vic Country side can reclaim bragging rights. This group will be prepared to give a really good account of themselves when we take on Vic Metro next Sunday. 18 BALLARAT SWAN S CHATTER MELTON SOUTH PANTHER PRESS Today the Active Electrical Ballarat Swans play hosts to the Melton South FNC. Both clubs are desperate for the 4 points, so today s game will be full of interest. The reserves will be looking forward to adding to their winning streak and the under U/18.5 will have a tougher assignment on their hands. Football: The intensity and effort was there for the Swans but still no match for Nth City who were able insert their authority early in the game and take the four points. The reserves were the only winners on the day and hopefully continue that trend today. The U/18.5 had a great tussle with fourth placed Nth City and only went down by 6 points. Netball: The Netballers had a tough assignment against the undefeated Nth City, and this showed in the final score, leaving the A graders in 6th position on the ladder after 10 rounds. B grade remain 3rd after their defeat and C grade remained on top of the ladder with a good win. The big result of the day was D grade having a big win over their undefeated opponents. The girls applied the pressure early and were able to keep their more fancied opponents to a low score. The Under 19 s could not hold out Nth City and remain in third place. Social News: Girls Day in This afternoon the senior netballers will host their sponsors for afternoon tea together from 4m-6 pm in the clubrooms. Following this, please join us at 6 pm for live music from Luke Brennan. Flight Night and Past Players/President Luncheon, Saturday 16 July Flight Night tickets Holly Manley and Past Players Paul Nicholls. Sponsor of the Week: Western District Employment Access (WDEA) Western District Employment Access (WDEA) has been providing individualised employment services in western Victoria from Since then, WDEA has grown to become one of the largest community and employment service providers in the region, employing over 250 people across 15 different sites in a range of community based services and programs. Personality of the Week: His nickname is a letter of the alphabet and holds a engineering degree in fence construction. His expression of the English language is unique. He assists where he can with Saturday duties but eventually goes missing and is found in the Club rooms who is he. All the best today to all netball and football teams. GO SWANS Today we head up the highway to Alfreton Oval to take on the Ballarat Swans. I m sure the new beanies and scarves will be out in force in the chilly weather. Be sure to call into the Brewery Tap on the way home for a beer and to show our sponsor some support. Football- The senior boys put in a much better competitive effort against the Lakers. They played some good pressure footy and it shows when you play your role and put in the effort you will get rewarded. Supporters only ask for that effort and eventually the rewards will come. Big Sorts was best on ground for us on the day. Well done Ben. The reserves put in another solid performance and showed that when we play good team first footy we are competitive. Keep up the good work Ryno and boys. And the unders had a massive win. The boys are really playing well under the guidance of Billy. Great to see Nath kick a bag of 7 and Aaron also with 6. Better players were Nath, Brodie and Smitty. Good stuff fellas. Netball- The netball girls were competitive as always. The unders and D grade had good wins, and the other sides all had good games but went down narrowly. Keep up the good work girls. A few more wins are just around the corner. Social- This time next week we will be getting ready for the 2016 Panther Ball. If you are not on a table put your name on the list. There is now a 2nd bus booked for the journey to and from. See Mel and Pam for more information. Make sure you are there at our Hypnotist Night. Bizarre Gazzard he is regarded as Australia s funniest. Saturday 30th of July at Melton Country Club at 7:30pm. $35 for show only. Get down to see some club favourites go under his spell. See Pam and Mel for more information. The boys had a night at Ace Go Carts recently. Congrats to Trussy and Ryno for taking out the trophy. A good night was had by all. Special mentions to Heater. Officials at Ace Carts have never seen anyone spin out on a straight. He has been asked back to show others on how to not drive. And our all conquering leader Pedo was seen to have spun out onto the grass and assistance was needed. Do as he says and not as he does. Sponsors of the week- 3 former players of the Panthers are this weeks sponsors of the week. Darko Dabrousak, Nick Hannet and Jason Sikorski. We thank these 3 great men for all there ongoing support. Thank-you. Volunteers of the week- Our ground manager Scott Agnew. He s there early at doors at all home games and does a great job. Go and congratulate Scott and You might even here the Karman Chew Me joke. We also like to thank little Tony Ogle. He is there at home and away games and does the interchange. Tony also does a lot of other things around the club that doesn t go unnoticed. Thanks to you both. My local spies tell me there were sightings of a couple of loyal panther identities at our arch nemesis s major draw last Sunday. It s a shame they didn t come away with the cash, but I m sure they enjoyed their warm beer and cold food. Until next week, The Prowling Panther #PantherPride 34 BFNL RECORD

EAST POINT KANGAS CORNER DARLEY DIARY Football: A hazardous icy trip down the highway last week was well worth it in the wash up with the Seniors playing their most intense 4 quarters of the season to knock off a Sunbury side that also had their opportunities to snatch a win. Everybody played their part including many of the younger inclusions. Special mention to Dasher and Lusa but every one of the 22 showed the effort that could snatch us a finals berth if we can bring that to the park each Saturday. This weeks home game against Darley will go a long way to defining the outcome of our 2016 saeson so lets get our A game out again against last years premiers. The Ressies also scored a good win and are playing a great brand of footy under Dacca and his team however the Unders had a poor result however will no doubt take in in their stride and bounce back hard this week GO ROOS Netball: After a slow, slippery and sometimes scary trip to Sunbury last week, our 19/under girls hit the court running and came away with a convincing 58 goal win. This big win now sees them in the top 6 for the first time this season; though on percentage only, it is a great turn around to a slow start to the season. All best players came from the attacking end of the court: Courtney McCrow, Meg Taylor and Rhiana Collins. B,C and D Grades all suffered losses and will be looking to bounce back this week against Darley to keep their finals chances strong. Best: D grade: Anika Orr, Maddi Moran, Amy Lewis and Kylea Wilson. C grade: Grace Curran, Katrina Simmons and Zoe Trembath. B grade: Rachael Wilson, Bree Whittaker and Jo Bayles. A grade defeated the previously third place Sunbury by 16 goals, quickly silencing the challengers with a 12-3 goal opening quarter. Best: Kate McLeod, Lauren Jew, Lauren Atkinson and Kate Martin. Good luck today girls. Sponsor of the Week: Today we welcome major sponsor AUSLEC to the rooms. Have a great day guys and thanks for your support over the past years. AUSLEC supplying electrical MRO and more FOOTBALL: Our senior group made a good response last week against the Bloods by jumping them early with an 8 goal to 1 haulage, putting the game to rest early. Our injury toll has certainly been a factor and it now promotes opportunity for others to step up. Today we travel to Eastern Oval to take on East Point whose recent form has been superb. Good luck to the senior 22 selected. Our Reserve footballers season slips away and it s totally up to the reserve 22 selected each week on where they can go from here. Get on the track and take the road less travelled and turn things around it s up to you collectively. Our under 18 s keep finding ways to win and now sit at 6 and 3 on the BFNL ladder. Keep winning, stay grounded and stay hungry boys. A huge congratulations and thanks to the current 18 s coach Jacob Donk Whitney for his 200th club game this weekend. The service and sportsmanship that Donk has given the DFNC over his many years at our club is very rare and also invaluable. Jacob played 54 games for our Under 18 s, with the rest spread amongst Reserve and Senior games. Donk still helps out the Ressies side every week, so thanks for the years of service Donk. We need more people like you at our club. Please make sure you get into East s rooms for a drink after the game. Supporting each other s clubs is important. NETBALL: Great day for our netballers last week with our A,B & C grade girls all winning. Marika, it seems you need to make the fixture much clearer for some. Rumour has it there was one netballer that turned up to Maccy Park to play and enjoyed a soccer match for a while before realising she best travel back down the freeway to Darley Park! J SOCIAL: Our Ball in the Barn was a huge success. Thanks to our social committee for another successful ball with over 220 people in attendance. A job well done to Brooke Edwards, Ally Edwards, Mel Byron and to the volunteers that helped them set up on the Friday before. It looked amazing, great venue and once again a night thoroughly enjoyed by all. Everyone came up a treat, hit the dance floor and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. DARLEY DEN: Congrats to Greg (ONE FOR ME) Holt who turned 60 last week. Rumour has it, he kept the social get together quiet, purely for cost reasons. Kane, Drew and Digger were a tad disappointed not making the 22 or even being named emergencies. Thought we were tighter than that Greg! On a positive Cashy has been omitted and sent himself to anger management classes. Great to see he has taken responsibility and shown some initiative. Tate Casanova Stone has been busy on the social media and my reports tell me he was circling around a well known jewellery shop on Collins. Watch this space!! WHO AM I? Two players hold the record for the most club Best & Fairest wins (nine each). Bob Skilton is one, who is the other? 40 BFNL RECORD

MELTON BLOODS BANTER LAKE WENDOUREE LAKERS NOTES The Devils proved too strong for the Bloods in the seniors last week despite a late rally to get within 2 goals in the last quarter. Jack Hughes starred to take out the Golden Fleece Hotel Best on Ground award. We had a good win in the Reserves but lost the Unders. Over on the Netball court, the girls also had mixed results with the U19 and D Grade getting over the line. After the game we all enjoyed a couple of cold ones in the Darley rooms before heading back to the Fleece where a good night was had by all. Today we welcome the league leaders in the Seniors, Lake Wendouree, to Maccy Park. This will probably be our toughest match for the season so far but as we are expecting a few players back from injury etc this week we are always hopeful of an upset. In the other grades the teams are a lot closer on paper so look out for some interesting results. Caremonkey. Everybody registered with MFNC should have received s from caremonkey. This is a player management program that can greatly assist in injury management and club communications. Please take the time log in and complete your profile. At committee level we are just starting to get to grips with it. Trainers in particular will find it very helpful in dealing with on field injuries. Many thanks to the hardy souls who stayed on in Ballarat for the BLC visit, your efforts earned the Club $ in the Club Rebate program. Interesting to note the eastern clubs are leading the charge so far according to last week s record. It could just be the luck of the draw but we will claim some credit while we can. Social News. The 10K draw is done and dusted, thanks to the splendid efforts by all involved. There were too many helpers to name them all individually. The Nelson Brothers proved to be a great hit with the crowd. So congratulations to the winners and a big well done to everybody involved. The next major social function is the Horse Racing night on July 16th after the Melton Sth Game. This evening will incorporate a cut down Goods and Services Auction so a varied evening s entertainment will be had by all. This is a COMPULSORY function for all senior contracted players. If for any legitimate reason you can t attend please let Greg Davis know in advance. Please do not forget our code of conduct. Copies can be read and downloaded from our website. Check the website for all the latest news from the Club, including the popular Daisy TV. With tax time coming up it a good time to recommend one of our value sponsors to our members and supporters. Tom from Jefkins Accountancy and Business Solutions is ready and waiting to help sort out your financial affairs. Give him a call and arrange an appointment and don t forget to mention the footy club. GO BLOODS Hello and welcome to McPherson Park where we do battle with the Bloods, it s our second week in a row down to sunny Melton, I hope the trip today was less adventurous than last week especially for the unders. It was a good day for the club winning 2 games of footy and 3 netball but again the day was ruined with the terrible news of Tom Littore badly hurting his knee. He will miss the rest of the season, with this on top of Lucas Anderson s similar injury it is truly horrible for the boys, their partners and families. Both are ripping blokes and have been fantastic around the club and if there is a benefit it is they are good mates and will support each other through their rehab. In the netball the day started with the under 19 s getting soundly beaten best players were Eva Gillet, Kate Malcolm and Madi Goldsworthy. The girls have a very important game today and need to win to stay in touch with the top 6. D grade also lost and they too have an important game today as well, their best players were Cassie Mason, Jenae Angove and Clara Richardson. C grade got the teams on the winners list with a fantastic win best players were Abbey Boyle, Jordan McKay and Lorelei Rich. B grade had a strong win with best players were Courts, JJ and Jac Clifton. A grade were the big winners for the day winning and the best players were Kara Hart, Chrissy James and Katie Williams. In the football the under 18 s were terribly undermanned and got soundly beaten, best were the consistent Kynan Raven, Tim Liston and Mitch Zakynthinos. The Magoos played their best game to date also very undermanned and having to call on past champions to fill the void. Chicken Creelman, Steggles Brennan, Dangles Findlay and prodigal son Dan Gunn all had solid contributions. The Findlay father-son combination was especially effective with China our best player ably assisted by Eamon McCuskey in his return game from injury and Nev Fraser who played his best game for the club. Andy Clifton played a cameo up front kicking 3 goals, overall a great win by the boys who stay in touch with the 6. The seniors were sluggish at the start and the young Melton South team took it right up to the ladder leaders. It took our engine room of BT, Moose, Bucky and Cliffo to get going and the boys eventually run out comfortable winners. This week after the Melton game the club is booked into the Ballarat Leagues Club for a drink and a bite to eat on the way home. It s important that everyone makes the effort to pop in to review the day s games. The week after on the 9th is our Mystery Bus Tour organised by Julie Maher and is a must for all players and supporters, it s a great chance for the supporters to spend a bit of time with all the players. 25 NORTH BALLARAT CITY SUNBURY LIONS SNIPPETS It was a very icy start to the day on Saturday at Alfredton with the ice on the ground not shifting throughout the U/18.5 game! Our senior boys had another good win against a determined Ballarat side. It was quite a physical game and the boys in defence worked hard against some strong efforts from Ballarat, both Ryan Luke and Daniel Jones working hard. Joe Symons had a great game, playing strongly and moving the ball well for us, creating goal scoring opportunities for Jordyn Burke and Derick Micallef. Despite a second half improved effort, it was not the reserves day against a stronger Ballarat. The boys unfortunately let Ballarat gain a good lead at half time but fought back in the second half, finishing up with their highest score for the season. Matt Coon and Aaron Sedgwick both continue to play well. It was a low scoring game for the U/18.5 s but in the end they were winners by 3 goals. They worked hard and broke the ice on the ground for the other games on the frosty morning. The coach does not want complacency from the boys however and reminded them that each game is to be approached the same way. All the boys contributed for the win with Billy Hoye and Tom Bromley Lynch both playing well through the centre. Don t forget to grab your ball tickets this weekend, $75 from Emily Pellegrino or Lee. It should be a great event but there will be no tickets available at the door. All tickets to be purchased pre event for catering purposes. Grab a group of friends together and come along for a great night. The club would also like to wish John Orr a speedy recovery from a recent sudden illness. John is a former player, coach and Premiership player who is one of our Life Members. We wish him all the best. Good luck to all competing today. Go North. Well who would have thought that at the start of the year that the under 18s would win a supposedly unwinnable game and the seniors and reserves would be beaten in what all would have thought should have been winnable games, what a turn around it has been for the young Lions and all of the credit goes to Wayne, Ashy the group of boys and some of the parents for sticking to the task and building a real bond and team spirit that saw them beat an unbeaten for 2 years East Point to with Jacob Bygate kicking 6 4 himself, Brett Johnson coming along to take the ruck has given Jacob the chance to stay forward a lot more, it was a great team effort, let s hope there is more big wins to come. As mentioned above both seniors and reserves fielded as strong a team that has taken to the ground in a long time only to go done to a more determined and polished outfit in East Point, if both Lions senior and reserve sides want to be considered a threat moving into the second half of the season and so into the finals they need to make better decisions with the ball and hit up targets when going forward, there needs to be more intent and endeavour with their approach to the game or more of these winnable games could slip away. The netballers are travelling along ok, the 19s are yet to notch up a win but are sticking to the task and who knows may be able get away with a big one soon, the A s are finding it harder against the top sides but the B s C s and D s are going along nicely. The next social function is next Saturday night 09th July when the women s footballers will host a Trivia Night some of the boys have put teams together already with the names of the teams being a competition within itself, if you don t have a table get a ticket off Krystie or Hedley and they will put you on one, the following week against Redan 16th July is the Rizk Memorial Day, there is a Luncheon organised with the quest speaker in Peter Daicos, tickets $50.00 and are available from Sando or Hedley, the 16th is also hopefully when we will be able to use the new change rooms we have been told we will have them on the 14th, it would be great to get for the 09th we will see how it goes. Then on the 23rd July after the Melton away game is the Mid-Season Ball put this date aside as it is always a great night and gets better every year, so a bit coming up for July 2 of these 3 should suit everyone. Let s not forget that Captain Happy also known as Ray McInnes or Rubbish Bin Ray has his tickets now for the Last Man Standing, so he will be hitting up all of the players from all of the sides to sell their share of tickets. The Club this year has the rights to the finals catering, this is a big task and requires a lot of organising and help, anyone who has a family member or friend that can help please let Sando or Sue Ireland know, the players not participating on the day will be called upon to contribute some time during these games. The player s sponsor s screens are up and running and all players are now being run thru the 2 screens, we are still taking sponsorships as there is still 4 home games and other times that these will run, see Glenn Wood for all the details. 48 BFNL RECORD

SEBASTOPOL BACCHUS MARSH COBRA S CHATTER FOOTBALL REPORT Although media reports refer to Redans victory over Sebastopol as an easy win those from within the club know only to well that last weekends game was yet another indication of the steady improvement our young list is making. This time last year the deficit was a little more than twenty goals on this year and although we lost the improvement and determination is well and truly there. Today is yet another challenging week as we take on second place Bachus Marsh but confidence is high and on our home ground in what will be conditions suited to SFNC, and both our senior football teams will be ready to go. As everybody knows without the support of the ladies involved as mothers, wives, partners, volunteers and players the club could not survive and today we pay recognition to them with our annual ladies day being held in the upstairs rooms from 2pm till 5pm all ladies are welcome to attend. As always a huge thank you goes out to our club sponsors and volunteers and without your contribution we would be unable to compete today. Good luck today UP THE BURRA! SENIOR NETBALL REPORT Another successful day against Redan last Saturday saw our D and A Grade netballers secure excellent victories back to back for both grades after their terrific wins the week before against Darley. Our B s, C s and 19 s also competed very well confirming the continued improvement across all grades. Well done to all coaches and all players on your efforts so far this season. The following players did particularly well against Redan last week Breeley Rosenow, Sarah Burns, Chloe Wickson, Georgia Willersdorf, Lauren Ogilvie, Monica Menz, Gabi Howard, Teagan Boadle, Alana Toulmin, Rhiannon Banner and Adrianna Cann. This week s matches against the Marsh will be hard fought and we again look forward to some more wins across the grades. Good luck everyone Go well and let s keep up that vocal support from the sidelines for each of our teams. Round 10 Last weekend the G B Forestry Cobras welcomed the bye for the weekend allowing all players and coaches a chance to rest and get ready for the next few weeks. Just a reminder to all that our next home game is on Saturday 9th July against Melton South so ensure you get down supporting our teams. Cobra News Flash The Bacchus Marsh Football Netball club would like to announce how proud we are with the amount of home grown talent that has come through our junior development programs over the years. The effective management of junior development is vital to the success of any sporting club, especially when it comes to country areas. We believe that through hard work over the years that we have the correct balance of junior development through our succession planning where we have been able to implement an integrated range of programs, which promote fun, enjoyment, skill development, social skills and the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, to ensure that our club has a continued flow of players, officials, coaches, parents and supporters. This year alone we have been able to have between 16 & 18 local football players that have come through our juniors, play senior football each week. We have also been able to provide the AFL with 3 players currently listed on teams and 2 players be aligned with VFL teams. Our netballers are similar where we have been successful in having girls who have come through our juniors play at the A grade level. We now have a woman s football team where though they may have not come through a development program, most are locals that again want to support our club and be in a safe and friendly environment. All of the above would not have been achievable if we had not identified that both our children and parents both play a fundamental role in our football and netball programs. Social interaction allows our participants to be drawn to the opportunity to socialise, develop/maintain friendships and operate as a team. At an age where the peer group is of utmost importance, football and netball offers a sense of belonging and acceptance. The Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club would like to congratulation all that have been involved over the years and thank all for their support and endeavour to keep this club strong. 52 BFNL RECORD

NETBALL REPORT By AFL Goldfields Netball Manager Kim Bailey The Netball Victoria State Titles are fast approaching and this year they are being held at Eagle Stadium in Wyndham on the 8th-9th October. The Netball Victoria State Titles provide a fantastic opportunity for all 19 regions in Victoria to come together and compete in 15/Under, 17/Under, Open and All Abilities netball divisions. The weekend competition not only brings quality players, coaches and umpires from all areas across the state but is also recognised as an invaluable development tool and promotes a structured pathway for those playing netball in Victoria. The Central Highlands region is seeking players, coaches, managers, umpires to represent the Region at these Titles in 15/Under, 17/Under and Open grades. The Central Highlands region consists of the Ballarat NA, BFNL, CHNL, MCDFNL, Mininera & District, Ballan NA, Clunes NA and the Wendouree NA Expressions of interest should be forwarded to Regional Liaison Officer at bnapride@ncable.net.au by the 11th of July as the selection dates are set for 22nd & 29th of July. Coaches are required be qualified with at least Development accreditation and hold a current minimum C grade badge for umpires. We would like to encourage anyone interested to apply as it would be fantastic to have some BFNL players, coaches and umpires representing our region. Last weekend our 13 & under and 15 & under teams headed down to the State Netball Hockey Centre to compete in the grand final of the association championships. Our 13s girls fought valiantly but the bigger bodied metropolitan teams were difficult to overcome. Although we didn t make finals, the girls still had a great day, winning two, losing two and drawing one. A great effort from Deb Hutchinson, Kelly Amoore and the girls. Our 15 & Under team also had another great tournament and finished second in their pool, winning three games and losing two and making their way into the semi-finals. Going into the day undermanned with Lake Wendouree s Charlotte Todd out with a broken leg, we suffered another injure to Remy Hooper, who is a vital cog in the team. It was a great semi-final however when we took on the Hampton FNL but unfortunately we went down in three. Again in was a fantastic effort for the girls and huge congratulations to Prue Douglass and the girls. A berth in the semis sees them ranked number three in the state. Our interleague marathon in nearly over and this weekend is the last for the year when our 13 & under, 15 & Under and 17 & under compete in the Bob Davis Cup at CE Brown Reserve on Sunday. Good luck to all of our teams competing. What a week we had last round. East Point confirmed why they are sitting on top of the ladder with a convincing 16 goal win over Sunbury, but the match of the round was between Redan and Sebastopol, two teams fighting to secure a finals berth. Sebastopol were leading for most of the match however, the move of Emma Henry into goals paid instant dividends. The match came right down to the wire with bodies flying everywhere in desperation to win the loss ball. As the final whistle blew, Sebastopol were one goal up but a penalty pass or shot was awarded under the ring to tie the game. Unfortunately for Redan, the shot was missed giving Sebastopol a valuable one goal victory and Redan a heartbreaking one goal defeat. Sebastopol have another big game up against the every improving Bacchus Marsh which could prove a danger game for them. Sunbury will be desperate to claim the scalp of one of the top two in North Ballarat to affirm they are real contender. However, North s Jordyn Bibby is coming off a dominate game against Ballarat last weekend netting 65 from 75 goals at 87%. A tall ask to stop her. Looking forward to another great round of netball. Good luck to all teams. Happy Netballing. 56 BFNL RECORD
