Friday s game will be at the Cadet Ice Arena beginning at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday s contest will be played at The Broadmoor World Arena. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on the 28th. P P T In 2013, Colorado College and Air Force established the Pikes Peak Trophy in memory of former CC and Falcons head coach John Matchefts. Air Force claimed the trophy last year with a 3-1 victory at The Broadmoor World Arena. Matchefts compiled a record of in five seasons ( ) at the Colorado College helm before posting a ledger of in 11 years ( ) with Air Force. He previously enjoyed an outstanding playing career at the University of Michigan under Vic Heyliger in the early 1950s, helping the Wolverines claim three national championships. L T O The Tigers were shutout twice at home last weekend, losing to 17th-ranked Minnesota Duluth 5-0 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday. On Friday, Aus n Farley put UMD on the board just 1:12 into the contest with a wrister from the le circle that got past CC goalie Tyler Marble (Detroit, MI), then the Bulldogs put the game away with three goals in a span of 4:14 midway through the second period. Marble finished the game with 34 saves... On Saturday, Farley again scored twice, including the first of the game with 1:12 le in the first period, followed 16 seconds later by a goal from Dominic Toninato. The Bulldogs added two goals in each of the last two periods. Freshman goalie Jacob Nehama (Allen, TX) had 25 saves for the Tigers. However, members of the media must stay in the stands or in the press box and will not be allowed to interrupt practice for any reason. Player Availability: Colorado College players are available for interviews any day the team practices. Players will not be available on nonpractice days. In general, interviews will be scheduled before practice (primarily between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m.). He came to Colorado College after serving one year as head coach of the Hershey Bears (AHL). Haviland was an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks from , helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 2010 Frank Serratore (Bemidji State, 82) is in his 19th season at Air Force and has a record at the Academy. He has an overall mark of in 23 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He has led the Falcons to five Atlantic Hockey championships and five NCAA appearances in the last nine years. Colorado College killed off seven of Duluth s nine power plays last weekend and has erased 33 of the last 38 overall (86.8%) heading back to the second period of the Oct. 16 game at UMass-Lowell. The Tigers have killed off 79.2 percent of its opponents power plays this year. B P P S After going 4-for-11 on the power play in the season-opening series against UMass, the Tigers have converted only one of their last 42 man-advantage opportunities, including an 0-for-6 performance against Minnesota Duluth. A B F T T 20 Air Force is the first opponent since UMass (opening weekend) that is not ranked in the top 20. The two games against Minnesota Duluth were the ninth and 10th consecutive CC played against teams ranked in the top 20. CC s six opponents this season have a combined record of , good for a.711 winning percentage. 3 N R M S 18 Y Nehama s 52 saves at UMass-Lowell on Oct. 16 were the most in one game by a CC goalie since Judd Lambert made 60 in a four-over me victory (1-0) over Wisconsin on March 8, UML s 55 shots on Friday were also the most by an opponent since Wisconsin recorded 60 in that same game. S B Cody and Trey Bradley (Tampa, FL) each gathered an assist on freshman Trevor Gooch s (Mantua, NJ) goal against UMass-Lowell on Oct. 16, becoming the first set of brothers to record a point on a CC goal since March 9, 2012 (Jaden and Rylan Schwartz). S O P P Seven of Colorado College s 12 opponents this season played in the NCAA Division I Hockey Tournament last season. NCHC foes North Dakota, Denver, St. Cloud State, Miami, Nebraska Omaha and Minnesota Duluth as well as Boston College were among the 16 teams to ba le for the na onal championship last spring. North Dakota and Nebraska Omaha advanced to the na onal semifinals. T S L S... Colorado College finished the season with the seventh-toughest schedule in the country, according to the Division I RPI. In fact, the eight NCHC schools occupied the top eight spots on the list. CC played 21 of its 35 games last year, including 13 of its last 17, against teams ranked in the top 12 in the country. 6 H C M H Mike Haviland enters his second season at the helm of the Colorado College hockey team a er taking over as the 14th head coach in the history of the program on May 9, Haviland, a highly regarded veteran coach with experience at the NCAA, ECHL, AHL and NHL levels, brought more than 20 years of hockey coaching experience to Colorado Springs, most recently as head coach of the Hershey Bears in Prior to arriving at Hershey, he served as associate head coach of the Norfolk Admirals in and an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks from During his four-year span in Chicago, he helped guide the Blackhawks to a cumula ve mark of , a Central Division tle in and the 2010 Stanley Cup championship. In Mike Haviland we hired one of the most successful and widely respected coaches in the industry, said Colorado College Athle c Director Ken Ralph. Mike has won championships at mul ple levels and has always produced winning programs. He has a deep understanding of the values of a liberal arts educa on and respect for the posi on of this program in the Colorado Springs community. We [Colorado College] have aspira ons of winning na onal championships, and I am confident we have found the right coach to turn our vision into reality. In his first season at CC, Haviland helped 11 Tigers achieve a career-high in points and defenseman Jaccob Slavin earn a first-team all-nchc selec on. Four Tigers from last year s team, including Slavin with the Carolina Hurricanes, signed professional contracts during the summer. From 2005 through 2007, Haviland was head coach at Norfolk, then the top affiliate of the Blackhawks, and guided the Admirals to a record of In those two seasons, the Admirals broke the franchise s single-season records for wins and points, an achievement that earned Haviland the 2007 Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as AHL Coach of the Year. He then went on to lead the Blackhawks new AHL affiliate in Rockford during the campaign to a record of and into two rounds of postseason play. Prior to his me in the AHL and NHL, Haviland spent four seasons with the ECHL s Trenton Titans ( ) and Atlan c City Boardwalk Bullies ( ). He led the Boardwalk Bullies to a Kelly Cup championship in 2003, and just two years later, hoisted the trophy as the Titans bench boss. His cumula ve record in four ECHL seasons was Haviland also had success at the college level. As an assistant coach at his alma mater, Elmira College, he helped guide the team to a record of and two ECAC championships from As a player, he was a four-year member of the Elmira College men s ice hockey team, from , and remains one of the best point producers in the school s history. He accumulated 152 points in his four-year career, which is 12th all- me, and is ed for ninth all me in career goals scored with 68. Haviland was a first-team All- America selec on in a er scoring 39 goals and adding 33 assists for 72 points in 33 games. He won two ECAC West Championships as a player ( and ) and helped the Soaring Eagles make two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including a na onal runner-up finish in Following his me as a student, Haviland was originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 1990 NHL Entry Dra.
