Follow us on Twitter & District 11 Spring Spectacular April 6-7, 2018 Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex 7403 Lone Tree Road, Victoria, TX Registration Deadline On 4-H Connect: March 16, 2018 If you competed at the Washington County 4-H Roundup and qualified to compete at Spring Spectacular, your deadline to register on 4-H Connect is March 16th. The Fashion Show and Consumer Decision Making Contest will be held on Friday, April 6th, with the remaining contests being held on Saturday, April 7th. If you are planning on creating a Fashion Storyboard to compete at District 11 4-H Spring Spectacular, you must register online and have your Fashion Storyboards turned into the Extension Office on or before April 4th. If you would like to serve as a volunteer or judge for the District 11 Spring Spectacular contests, please let Charles know so that your name may be submitted. For contest details and schedule, please click here. Fair Queen Candidates If you are interested in running as a candidate for Fair Queen under Washington County 4-H Clubs, please be sure to let your club manager know during your March or April club meetings. Washington County 4-H must furnish two candidates due to the size of our organization.
2 Washington County Fair Rule Book The 2018 Washington County Fair Junior Livestock Association rulebook can be found here. You can find the Commercial Cattle rulebook here. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the general rules as well as the rules for your individual species. Washington County Fair Online Entry Starting January 12th the online entry system for the Washington County Fair will be available for use by exhibitors and families. Please note you must enter your project online into the Showorks system at least 5 days before your scheduled species tag-in date. You can access the online entry system here. Meeting Rules For 2018 Washington County Fair 1st Year Exhibitors: If you will exhibit an animal for the first time at the 2018 Washington County Fair, you must have an active profile on and attend half of the scheduled community club meetings from the species tag in/validation date until July. Returning Exhibitors: You must have an active profile on and attend a minimum of 5 monthly Community Club 4-H meetings between the months of October - July in order to be eligible to show. Washington County Fair Species Meetings Please note that exhibitors are responsible for attending the minimum number of required species meetings in order to be eligible to show at the Washington County Fair. The criteria can be found in the Washington County Fair rulebook online. The complete list of meetings and programs for the Washington County Fair can be found at this link. 3 Major Show Breeding Heifer Substitution Deadlines Please note that any heifer substituted must be validated in the Major Show Heifer Validation program. Houston - Heifer substitutions can be made prior to February 1 by submitting a completed official heifer substitution entry application. These must have an official postmark dated no later than February 1. After February 1, substitutions will be accepted by the same method plus a $50 fee, if made between February 2 March 1 and $250 between March 2 and close of check-in. Substitutes will NOT be accepted after the close of check-in on Thursday, March 8th at 5 p.m. Austin - All substitutions are handled upon entry to the grounds. Livestock Project Help If you would like to schedule a project visit, call or Charles at the Extension Office to schedule a time to meet. We are happy to help any family that would like for us to check out their project and answer any questions they may have. If you need help seeking and purchasing an animal project for the 2018 Washington County Fair, feel free to contact Charles at the Extension Office. HLSR & Rodeo Austin Parking and Grounds Passes Houston and Austin passes are available for pick up at the Extension Office. They are ready for pick up at any time between 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Major Livestock Show School Absences If you have entered in a Major Jr. Livestock Show, the Extension Office will be performing grade checks and requests for excused absences. This will let the school know you will be missing class for participation in the show or contest. However, please note that some schools require additional paper work that must be filled out, signed, and turned back in to the school attendance administrator. This additional paperwork is the responsibility of the student and their family. Please be sure to visit with your attendance administrator to determine if additional paperwork is required.

7 County Council and Parent Association Meeting March 5th May 7th July 2nd Meetings start at 6:30pm at Fairgrounds Sales Facility Just a reminder that is an officer responsibility of the President, Vice President, and Council Delegates of each club to attend the County Council Meetings and report back to their clubs the decisions and programs going on at the County Level. We encourage all club managers, project leaders, and parent leaders to attend the Parent Association meetings. These two groups help shape the 4-H program on the county level. Come make sure your voice, and the voice of your club is heard. Shooting Sports Practices Air Rifle Practice are from 6:00-7:30pm on Monday Nights in the Fairgrounds Sales Facility Air Rifle Project Leader: David Chovanec, davidnlil@hotmail.com Archery Practices are from 6:00-7:00pm on Tuesday Nights at the BHS JROTC Bldg. 8 2017 Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Courses: Texas A&M University July 16-19, 2018 Cost: $250 Texas Tech University/West Texas A&M University July 23-26, 2018 Cost: $250 Selection Criteria: Senior age (14-18) 4-H youth that have exhibited a superior level of ambition regarding his/her livestock projects Students with a profound interest in animal science and animal production Students have shown advanced leadership qualities and a willingness to help others Top 25% class rank Application Process: Applicant goes to: SID=SV_0JPBcTafCz8b52J Student will complete the application and enter the contact information of supervising County Extension Agent. CEA will be automatically ed a recommendation survey. A selection committee will review the applications and accept 25 participants per university. Applications are due June 1, Applicants will be notified by June 15, 2018 regarding application result.

11 Texas 4-H Equine Ambassadors We are excited to release the application for the 2018 Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador Short Course. Since 2012, horse enthusiasts from across our great state have traveled to Gainesville for an exceptional training. Equine Ambassadors have been busy assisting his/her County Extension Agents with equine programming and advocating for the industry. I am pleased to report that these exceptional leaders have represented Texas 4-H, the equine industry and animal agriculture with distinction and purpose. Equine Ambassadors have been at the forefront of advocacy efforts at the local, state, national and international l evels. The course will still be headquartered in Gainesville, however a portion of the training will be held in Oklahoma City in conjunction with the NRHA Derby. Selected applicants will be treated to a behind the scenes educational experience of this storied event. 14 Vet Science Program Organizational Meeting There will be a Vet Science Program Organizational meeting held on Thursday April 26th at 6:00pm in the Washington County Annex Event Center. Plans are being put together for a new class to begin in the Summer/Fall of To participate, members must be in at least the seventh grade.
