SHOW DATES: Saturday, June 3 RD and Sunday, June 4 th ARRIVAL TIMES: Friday June 3 RD - 6:00 8:00 and Saturday 6:30 8:00 a.m. only! ENTRY DEADLINE:MUST BE POSTMARKED MAY 24, 2017 No late entries accepted COST: The cost for Spring Show is $ Includes youth lunch on Saturday. (No refunds) CHECKS PAYABLE TO: Southern MD 4-H Livestock Committee ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE: Application for field day, fee, show entry and emergency form. MEALS: Lunch is provide for participants on Saturday. Breakfast and Lunch is available for others to purchase Saturday and Sunday for purchase. To help keep the cost of meals down we are asking you to please donate wrapped purchased cookies and cupcakes for the event. SATURDAY WORKSHOPS We will be offering learning workshops on Saturday on fitting and showing, general health and feeding your animal. INFORMATION FOR 2017: READ ALL ENCLOSED INFORMATION! 1. Exhibitor may show a maximum of 2 animals of each species but will only be paid for 6 animals. 2. All market lambs must be shorn prior arriving on the fairgrounds and arrive without covers or blankets. 3. The SHEEP show will be Saturday, June 3 rd at 2:00 p.m. and BEEF, Saturday, June 3 rd at 5:00 p.m. The SWINE show will be Sunday, June 4 th at 8:00 a.m. and GOAT, Sunday, June 4 th at 10:30 a.m. 5. No bedding provided, you must bring your own bedding. 7. ALL EXHIBITORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING UP THEIR PENS prior to leaving the grounds. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO PRIOR TO ARRIVING AND ARRIVING AT THE SHOW: 1. Get an approved Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) signed by your Vet! 2. Inspect your animals and sign the Livestock Exhibitor s Self-Certification of Animal Health document before you leave home. MUST BE SIGNED PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT THE SHOW! 3. DO NOT UNLOAD UNTIL someone at the gate will check your papers upon entry and tells you can unload. 2 2017 Southern Maryland Livestock Field Day & Spring Show Schedules Saturday, June 3 rd BEEF& SWINE may arrive between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. Steers will be weighed upon arrival. Goats and Sheep will be weighed in their workshops. Swine weights will be used from county weigh-ins. Workshop Schedule for Sheep, Beef, Swine, & Goats 8:30-9:00 a.m. Registration and Introduction of Staff 9:15-11:15 noon Workshops Youth must stay in assigned workshops and have their own animal to participate. 11:15-12:30 p.m. LUNCH 11:45 Sheep & Beef; 12:15 Goats & Swine 12:30-12:45 p.m. Spring Livestock King & Queen Contest 2:00 p.m. Sheep Show 5:00 p.m. Beef Show 8:00 p.m. Dairy Goat Milk-Out checked by Mrs. Dingus Show Order: Showmanship Seniors, Intermediates, Juniors, Novice Market by weight Breeding Sheep and Beef will be released after the show. You must clean your pens and be checked by Mrs. Herbert (treasurer) before you receive award checks. Sunday, June 4 th Show starts at 8:00 a.m. show order is as follows: Swine - Goats. You should arrive in time to have your animals fed and watered before the show. 7:30 a.m. - Show numbers will be distributed 8:00 a.m. Swine Show - Showmanship seniors, intermediates, juniors, novice Market Breeding 10:30 a.m. - Goat Show - Showmanship seniors, intermediates, juniors (Dairy Showmanship First) Market Breeding - Swine and Goats will be released after their show. You must clean your pens including any hair or wool you clipped from your animal. Will be checked by Mrs. Herbert (treasurer) before you receive award checks. 3 GENERAL RULES FOR SOUTHERN MD 4-H LIVESTOCK SHOW 1. PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING: Signed Self-Certification Form and CVI Participants must bring their own animals for workshops! Hose for washing, shampoo Halters (rope & Show halter, if available) Brushes Pitch fork & rake Clippers Bedding for your animals Feed for animal (hay & grain) Wheelbarrows Water Buckets & feed tub Neck ropes for steers Show stands - chutes Show sticks for beef Canes Boards Be sure all your personal equipment is marked for proper identification. 2. Show clothes are to be worn on Saturday and Sunday Shows. Show clothes are as follow: Beef, Swine, Sheep: tan or dark green slacks; white shirt, with green or solid black tie or neck piece; leather boots. Dairy: white slacks with white shirt with neck piece. Market Goats: either show clothes are acceptable. No shorts, hats, or cell phones will be worn in the showring. BOOTS TO BE WORN. 3. Exhibitors are divided by novice (1st year showers - ages 8-18), juniors (8-10 years old), intermediates (11-13 year old), seniors (14-18 years old) as of January 1, All participants must have a copy of a signed Maryland Behavior Expectations and Showring Code of Ethics on file at their county 4-H office. Must have completed the require Quality Assurance. 5. Entries must be sent to the Charles County Extension, 4-H by May 24, NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED. Sorry NO refunds. There will be no changes once registered. Please complete all the information on entry form. Forms must be signed by individual county extension personnel. 6. All animals will be inspected for general health upon presentation for admission. Those showing clinical signs of ANY contagious or infectious disease shall be removed immediately from the grounds. In such cases, the health certificate may be modified, suspended or revoked. Health judgments are final by the Maryland Health inspector and show superintendents. 7. Exhibitors may only participate in one workshop on Saturday and expected to stay with that group, unless pre approved by workshop superintendent. Fitting of all other animals must be prior too or after the workshops conclusion. Fitting of the animals is to be done by the 4-H er. Any animals fitted by a parent will be disqualified by the superintendent. All demonstration animals must be approved by chairpersons. 8. Exhibitors will show their own animals unless two animals are in the same class. In the case of two animals being shown, the second animal must be shown by another 4-H member who is of approximately the same age and is within the same age division. Page3
4 9. No evidences of testicles will be allowed in market classes. No horns allowed in market for beef & sheep. 10. Meat/market goats only will be allowed to have horns, but they must have them tipped blunt. Blunting means removing the pointy tip of the horn. This can be done with a pair of hoof trimmer. Only a small amount should be removed to prevent bleeding. For the safety of the exhibitors, sharp horns will not be allowed. The Dis-budding of meat/market goats is encouraged, but not required. 11. Pre-show milk-out will be completed by 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. The judge will discriminate against over- extended udders. 12. For the Sheep Division, all sheep must be sheared prior to arriving on the fair grounds. No shearing of market lambs on the grounds. 13. In the Goat Division you may show in either Dairy or Meat Fitting and Showing but not in both. 14. All Beef and Swine must have Premise Tag, for sheep & goats they must have a scrapies eartag. 15. Participants are responsible for cleaning up all wool/hair and trash from fairgrounds where they have worked on their animals. 16. Animals will be released following the CONCLUSION of the shows, the sheep and beef will be released on Saturday all other species on Sunday. After the stalls have been cleaned and manure must be loaded onto manure spreader. You must also clean your clipping area of hair/wool. The stall superintendent will check each stall. If stall are not clean participation award will be withheld. Departure prior to end of each individual show will be a forfeit of participation funds. 17. Participation premiums will be provided through the cooperation of the Maryland Agriculture Fair Board and will be forwarded by check following the show. Premiums will be withheld if stalls have not been cleaned. 18. Exhibitors and their families are expected to leave the fairgrounds in the clean and safe condition in which they were found. (Grounds, Barns and Bathrooms) 19. Exhibitor may show a maximum of 2 animals of each species and only a total of 6 animals will be paid. 20. You do not have participate in workshops on Saturday to show in the shows. 21. The Maryland Agricultural Fair Board funds the participation premiums, ribbons and awards for the show. A 4-H member may ONLY participate in one regional show. This is a RULE FROM THE Maryland Agriculture Fair Board. Page4
