2 COUNTY NEWS Page Major Show Information Major Show Lamb/Goat Validation Mark your calendars now for Major Show Lamb and Goat Validation. Validation will be Tuesday, October 24th 4:00 pm-5:30 pm at the Walker County Fairgrounds. Remember if you tagged in for the State Fair in June, you MUST re-validate goats and lambs for the spring majors. Major Show Breeding Heifer Validation Validation will be Tuesday, October 24th 4:00 pm-5:30 pm Walker County Fairgrounds. DNA hair samples will be pulled and all brands and tattoos will be verified and recorded. The ORIGINAL registration papers must be present at validation to verify brands and/or tattoos. Call Kristy at if you have questions about Major Show Heifer Validation. Major Show Entry Day (For Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston & Austin) Mark your Calendars Now!!!! Those planning on exhibiting at the 2018 Major Shows (i.e. Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Houston or Austin) there will be an entry day held at the County Extension Office on Wednesday, November 1st from 3 to 6 pm. Entry forms will be filled out, thus parents and exhibitors must be present for signatures. Don t forget to bring exhibitors social security number and Quality Counts number. Late entries will not be accepted...no EXCEPTIONS!!! THIS DATE IS MANDATORY MEETING FOR ALL MAJOR SHOW EXHIBITORS!!! 3 COUNTY NEWS continued 2018 Walker County Fair Information Steer Validation for the 2018 Walker County Fair October 21, :00 am-11:00 am Walker County Fairgrounds Lamb & Goat Validation for the 2018 Walker County Fair October 24, :00 pm-7:00 pm Walker County Fairgrounds Page 3 Commercial Heifers Validation for the 2018 Walker County Fair October 21, noon-2:00 p.m. Huntsville Livestock Auction Barn Bring completed/signed Breeder s Certificate form. Forms can be picked up from the County Extension Office. All heifers should be Brucellosis Calfhood vaccinated prior to the initial tag-in. $5 per head premium money is also required. Broilers- Order Placed for 2018 Walker County Fair Broilers October 17, :45 7:00 pm Walker County Fairgrounds Rental Office Broilers must be paid for when ordered. Swine Validation for 2018 Walker County Fair December 14, :30 pm-7:00 pm Walker County Fair Grounds Rabbit Doe Validation for 2018 Walker County Fair November 2, :30 pm County Extension Office Breeding stock must be of the exhibitor s ownership by this date. Exhibitors must be present. Only those valid and written excuses (within 7 days) will be considered by the Rabbit Committee for an exhibitor s absence. STATE NEWS EXHIBITORS AND A PARENT MUST BE PRESENT (UNLESS PRIOR APPROVAL) AT ALL WALKER COUNTY FAIR TAG-INS TO SIGN PAPERWORK AND PAY ENTRY FEES. $20 PER HEAD OR PEN OF THREE. Walker County Fair Halloween Carnival Saturday, October 28th-WCFA Halloween Carnival will be held from 5pm-9:00 pm at the Walker County Fairgrounds. Check with your committee chairman or 4-H club leader to see what booth your project is assigned to work. This is a chance for exhibitors to work assigned games to receive credit towards their fair work hour requirements. Walker County Fair Work Days Remember all exhibitors must have 5 work hours no later than Thursday, April 5th, 2018 in order to show a project at the 2018 Walker County Fair Work Hour Opportunities Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 5:00 9:00 pm Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 2:00 4:00 pm Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 8:00 10:00 am

6 DISTRICT 9 and STATE 4-H NEWS Page 6 District 9 4-H Junior Leadership Lab Junior Leadership Lab is open to all intermediate age 4-Hers from the 18 counties in District 9 that are interested in learning leadership skills. The camp is set up to be enjoyable and fun, but there is work too. The sessions require participant involvement and concentration. Ages 11 to 13 (grades 6-8) are encouraged to attend. Play time is set up with activities that build team work skills and camaraderie in the district. The date will be November 10th-11th at Carolina Creek Camp in Huntsville, Texas. The cost of the camp is $ The deadline for registration is Wednesday, October 18th via 4-H Connect.
