3 Upcoming Officer Elections for the 4H Year Attention all 4H ers, 4H Officer Elections will be held at the May Meeting. If anyone is willing to run for office you must advise your current 4H Club President by April meeting and let them know which position you would like to run for. Important INFO from Mr. Perez There will be a work schedule posted at the show barn. If you have a conflict, make sure you see me to get your time switched. If your name is not on the schedule, make sure you check the ranch rodeo work schedule for Sunday. There may not be enough time slots for work during the fair so we moved some to Sunday. There is a work schedule in this newsletter for the ranch rodeo on Sunday. This is an important fundraiser for 4H, so make SURE you show up to work your time. Not everyone can win Grand Champion, try to remember that competing in a stock show tries to teach you how to win with humility, and lose with dignity (if you don t know the meaning of those words, look them up). One last thing GOOD LUCK! Tristen Martinez, showing her goat at the 2014 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. She placed eighth with her Steer. SHOOTING SPORTS COACH S TRAINING!!! SENIORS The 2014 Texas Farm Bureau Scholarships are now available and must be submitted online by March 10, The Buckskin Brigade Experience Texas deer like you never have before. Apply for one of two Buckskin Brigades - locations in South Texas and North Texas! Whether you are an experienced hunter or a novice nature buff, nothing stirs the blood like sighting in on a well-antlered buck as he majestically steps into a clearing early on a crisp fall morning. Young Texas deer enthusiasts with a sincere "yearning for learning" should make plans to apply to one of the Buckskin Brigade camps. When and Where are camps held? South Texas Buckskin June 15-19, Southern Star Ranch, Uvalde Who Should Apply for the Texas Brigades? Almost without exception, cadets and adults from past Brigade camps rank the Texas Brigades as the best camp they have ever attended! The success of the Texas Brigades depends on both highly motivated youth (ages 13-17) and adult participants with a desire to

5 further their wildlife knowledge and leadership skills. WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE AT THE TEXAS BRIGADES? Each camp is unique, but you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about deer, quail, bass, and waterfowl! You will study anatomy, biology, habitat management, population dynamics, conservation, watershed management, and more. In addition to a heaping dose of ecology, you will study photography, art, entomology, botany, fly-tying, firearm safety, and leadership skills. Every camp is fast-paced and filled with hands-on experiences, a wealth of information, camaraderie, and participation in professionally led management techniques and procedures. WHAT DO YOU MEAN "LEADERSHIP SKILLS"? Every person, no matter what profession you choose, must be able to think, plan, and communicate to succeed. Many of the activities at the Texas Brigades revolve around teambuilding and critical thinking. IS THERE A FEE? Yes, there is a tuition fee for cadets. The fee is $400, which covers meals, lodging, and supplies. Don't let money stop you from applying! We will help you find financial assistance. Texas Brigades considers the adult leaders' volunteer hours as their donation towards camp. APPLY ONLINE (Available January 2014) APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 15, Each camp is 4 ½ days of intense, interactive, fun learning from top wildlife and natural resource professionals in Texas. Subjects covered include everything from biology, habitat management, watersheds, population dynamics, ecology, and botany, to photography, journalism, firearm safety, fishing, communication, critical-thinking, team building, and leadership. Brigade/ 4H & FFA BOOSTER CLUB ATTENDANCE POLICY! The LaSalle Co. 4H and FFA Booster Club, (which runs the Livestock Show) has instituted a rule that states: To be eligible to show at the LaSalle Co. Livestock Show, all 4H and or club meetings. This rule will go into effect THIS YEAR. If you miss a 4H meeting and would like to have a make up, you can attend a LaSalle County Council meeting.
