2 County Council & Adult Leader Meetings The 4-H Youth County Council meetings are open to 4-H members age 9 and older. Meetings provide opportunities for youth to meet, share ideas, plan, and implement activities with other youth throughout the county. Each club is encouraged to send 2 3 representatives to each meeting. Club representatives typically include the President and 1 2 Council Delegates. The next County Council Meeting will be Monday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension office. The Adult Leader Association meetings provide an opportunity for adult volunteers to meet, discuss ideas, and plan and implement activities that support the youth of the county. The next Adult Leader Meeting will be on Monday, September 28, at the Extension office. 4-H County Awards Reception The County Awards Reception will be Friday, August 7, This is a fun family event which recognizes the youth throughout the county for their record book achievements and service during the year. This year s event will be an awards reception (instead of a dinner.) The Adult Leaders Association (ALA) is accepting monetary donations for the purpose of offsetting the costs of refreshments and decorations. If this is something with which you or your club can assist, checks may be made payable to the Adult Leaders Association and mailed to the County Extension office at 200 Taylor Street; Suite 500; Fort Worth, TX

3 H Year Begins IT S HERE!! Enrollment for the upcoming H year starts soon. Enrollment for the Texas 4-H Year Starts AUGUST 15 Participation fees will remain the same for the year, $20.00 form August 15 th to October 31 st and then $25.00 from November 1 st on! Here are some things to remember as you re-enroll for the H year: If you are re-enrolling and already have an existing profile, do not create a new profile, UPDATE your existing one with new , physical addresses and phone numbers. An annual participant fee is due for each 4-H member on August 15, Please use either a debit or credit card for payment. The 4H check option is only for members whose club will be paying their enrollment fees. If you have forgotten your address or password DO NOT create another profile in 4-H CONNECT. Call the office and we can help you get logged in! If you are 8 and in the 3rd grade and enrolling in 4-H WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 1st to enroll! It is tricky because the official first day of 4-H is not until September 1st but enrollment starts August 15th. This means there are 15 days for our new (young) members where they may not be assessed a participation fee and 4-H C ONNECT will classify them as a Clover Kid.

8 Fall Livestock Show Entry Day (please read page 8 & 9) All youth who plan to participate in any Youth Divisions of fall livestock shows/fairs/events will need to plan to sign up at the Extension office on the Fall Show Entry Day Thursday, August 6, 2015 between 10:30 am 6:00 pm. State Fair of Texas (Dallas) West Texas Fair (Abilene) East Texas Fair (Tyler) HOT Fair (Waco) It is important that you come on the specified day because each show has strict deadlines, and we must assemble paperwork and finances. If you cannot attend, call IN ADVANCE to see if we can find a solution. After the date, we cannot guarantee that you will be entered. Contact info: ; Cindy Bryant CPBryant@ag.tamu.edu Preparatory Steps: Save the date on your schedule (August 6, 2015; 10:30 6:00 pm) Review the website for each show/fair/event you want to enter. Check rules, dates, etc. Decide which classes you want to enter. Ensure that your Quality Counts number is still active. You may go online to to verify. You must certify as a Junior/Intermediate and again as a Senior. If you have not completed the Quality Counts educational training or if it has expired, you may access the above website for instructions on how to complete and certify before the entry day. This must be completed in advance because you will need to have the verification number before you can enter livestock shows. Assemble the paperwork that you will need to bring with you to the Fall Show Entry Day. Continued on next page. Read Page 8 & 9 so that you will be prepared to enter the Livestock Shows.

9 Fall Livestock Show Entry Day Continued What to bring on Fall Show Entry Day: Special Notice: Social security number for each exhibitor Copy of registration papers for all breeding animals. Your Quality Counts Verification number. Printed copy of Release of Liability form for each show you plan to enter (from their website). Printed copy of the entry form for each show you plan to enter. Please mark the specific classes you plan to enter. This will serve as a worksheet which we will use to place the official entries. Check or money order payable to ELEC (which stands for Equine-Livestock Education Committee) Patience This applies to all Youth Division classes (not Open classes). Many shows/fairs/events are expanding their competitive class offers to include: Creative Arts, Public Speaking, Foods/ Cooking, Consumer Decision Making, Ag Mechanics, Shooting, etc. If you plan to enter any of these non-livestock contests, you must check the rule & premium books for each show to determine the rules for your desired contest. If it states that you must enter through the CEA or through 4-H, you MUST enter at the Extension office on August 6. We submit entries for YOUTH classes, but not OPEN classes. (Exhibitor families are responsible for their OPEN show entries.) Remember: Each show is a separate entity. Each has its own rules and contest offerings. You must check each show website for information that is specific to the contest you wish to enter. You will need to bring: A printed copy of the contest rules (from the show website). A printed copy of the entry form with your class information. Exhibitor s Social Security number. Release of Liability form for the show (from the show website). Any additional items required
