NEWS, ROAD, TRACK AND FIELD, MULTI-SPORT, CROSS COUNTRY, SOCIAL, STORIES/ARTICLES ETC), GENERAL and THE BAC PAGE NEWS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL OF OUR MEMBERS BORN IN JULY: GOOD LUCK TO: Tiaan Steenkamp who will be taking part in the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Champs being held at the Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A. from 22 July 27 July. Tiaan will be taking part in the High Jump event on July 23 (Day 2) at 18:15 (American Local time) 03:15 S.A. Time (24 July) The High Jump Final will take place on Day 4 at 18:30 (American Local time). 03:30 S.A. Time (26 July). To qualify for this event Tiaan had to jump a height of Tiaan in action at the 8 th IAAF World Youth Champs which was held in July 2013 in Donetsk, Ukraine

2 CONGRATULATIONS TO: Rita van Wyk on finishing 2 nd Master Lady overall at the Mooikloof Realtors Ice Breaker in Pretoria on July 19, Rita finished in a time of 48:22. Cross Country! Noteworthy performances! For those who have never tried running Cross Country, you need to know that you have not REALLY tested yourself to the limit in that you probably perceive it to be short distance on soft terrain running. WRONG!!! Cross Country is Pain from the Gun NO quarter asked or given competitive racing! If your dearest buddy slips and goes down in front of you, you simply hurdle over him/her and accelerate because he/she is now as P*^%$#D OFF as a Rattlesnake and is coming at you running on pure Adrenalin! Ah Such fond memories! If you don t almost puke as you finish, why did you start the race? Get REAL and HURT or don t bother! If you are wondering what prompted me to pen this note, it is that I picked up in the results that we have some amazing Cross Country Athletes, going out there week after week, doing us (Boksburg Athletic Club) PROUD. I am happy to list a few exceptionally dedicated athletes but believe me, each and every Cross Country Runner is a HERO! Performing consistently amongst the TOP 10 Men/Boys, we have: Diwan van Emmenes, Caleb Beukes, Luke Meyer, Michael Pienaar, Greg Pienaar, Jabulani Ngwenya and of course the inimitable Willie Maisela! And amongst our Ladies/Girls; Michelle and Daniella Meyer (A bit of a Family affair hey?), Anet Coetzee, Thandi Banda and Jillian Sotto Corona. Thanks for making us proud Girls and Guys! Cheers. TRACK AND FIELD STEVE S TUESDAY NIGHT TRACK SESSION IS NOW AT P.G. PARK All members (especially our new members) are invited to Steve s Tuesday Night Track Session. The session starts at 18:00 and is normally about 45 minutes long. Please ensure you get to P.G. Park (Prince George Park in the middle of town) at least 15 minutes before so that you can warm up before the session starts. Track training will continue at P.G. 6 CROSS COUNTRY Revised 2014 Cross Country Training Runs Please see below the revised dates for Cross Country Training Runs. The runs will start at the Boksburg City Stadium and be run in the grounds of the stadium. The routes will vary between 4km, 8km and 12km. Interested runners to meet in the main car park at the Stadium by 07:15. Saturday August 09 at 07:30/08:00 Saturday August 23 at 07:30/08:00 These runs are open to all members of the club as well as family, friends and other club members. This is a good opportunity to start getting fit for both the School Cross Country League season as well as the CGA Club Cross Country League season. REVISED 2014 C.G.A. 7 Correspondence received from C.G.A. Dear Club Chairperson/Secretary Central Gauteng Athletics hosts another successful Cross Country league in Soweto, Thokoza Park the past Saturday 19 July Athletes came out in numbers. Regardless of the unfriendly environmental circumstances, athletes stills strived to complete the chosen races. Two more leagues to go then it s the Central Gauteng Athletics Championships. Sincere apologies to athletes, clubs, officials, and the Central Gauteng Athletics family at large, who were faced with the unfortunate circumstances of a not so user friendly environment. It was beyond Central Gauteng Athletics control. The Cross Country commission together with the CGA office will ensure that the venues are closely inspected and our partnership with the respective Municipalities assist and benefit us to ensuring that all areas/venues are conducive to deliver the high level cross country event in the country. Results system is on full form now and deems to be very successful. Thank you to all for baring with the changes and help us make this initiative a success. Once more thank you to all the athletes that used their barcodes as this assist in making our results accurate. We remind athletes, coaches and club representative to bring their barcodes and ensue that athletes run with their barcodes on the day of the race. Our event started in 2009 and is the original obstacle trail challenge in South Africa. TAKKIE DRIVE I was wondering if you could help us with something, my twins will be hosting a takkie drive at their birthday party in September we are collecting takkies and running shoes, new or old, any size or colour for charity.
