President s Message Mary Ann Bedics President, Ptarmigan Ski Club Busy, Busy, Busy Just in the month of October alone your ski club is announcing at least fifteen activities or events: Oktoberfest, 5 happy hours, 5 golf outings, book club, road rally, and 2 Knights of Columbus meetings. Certainly you probably will not be able to fit in all of these activities but I have found that Ptarmigan members do not want to miss out on anything! The Board of Directors tries to vary these activities so all members can pick and choose their favorite events. You have probably heard or used the expression "Get A Life". The PSC is alive and well and offering you a chance to enrich your "life". Join your friends for some fun and camaraderie and maybe you will even benefit with a little exercise! Got Snowballs? We kicked off the season Tuesday Sep 13 th with the "Got Snowballs?" theme. Many members wore their logo tee-shirts. (We also sold quite a few shirts that evening.) Brian Nuss created the theme poster and BJ's made the sheet cake, which was delicious and also sported the logo. The Knights of Columbus "ballroom" was filled with eager Ptarmigans ready to welcome the new season and to reconnect with folks not seen since last season. Getting fit for our winter activities is always a priority. Jeanne Weiser and Brian Nuss put together a program of exercises (some using ski poles, some using paper plates) to help us get in shape. Core strength and balance were emphasized. Even if you no longer ski or snowboard these exercises are essential for a healthy lifestyle. See Photos on Page 5. Ptarmigan Saturday Happy Hour at Blue Mt. Date: Saturday, October 8, 2016 Time: Gather from 4:00 pm on Place: Blue Mtn. Slopeside Pub & Grill outdoor patio Cash Bar. Singing" the Praises of Mary "Bach" Recap by Mary Ann Bedics Mary Bach's presentation "Are You Getting What You Pay For"? at the Sep 27 th meeting was educational, informational and humorously entertaining. Mary is a long-time independent, nationally recognized Consumer Advocate, who now chairs the award-winning AARP Pennsylvania Consumer Issues Task Force. Her topic was filled with facts, personal experiences and lessons on how to become a more savvy and informed consumer. She discussed in depth the PA sales tax law. Mary held the attention of the packed audience at the general membership meeting at the Knights of Columbus on Tuesday, September 27. As soon as Mary walked in the door of the K of C her enthusiasm was evident. She is a passionate consumer advocate. We were very fortunate to have such a warm and personable speaker. A thank you also to her husband, Lenny, who helped set up Mary's "props." AARP of Pennsylvania provides these volunteer speakers "free" of charge to community groups such as our ski club. Blue Mt. Vouchers See Flyer below. Contact: Dale Gogel Dalego@aol.com Note: 6 packs will have to be picked up at the mountain

3 Blue Mountain Slopeside Pub & Grill Happy Hour Sat Sep 17 th : Recap by Mary Ann Bedics Over thirty members of the PSC came out to happy hour at the Blue Mountain Slopeside Bar and Grill on Saturday, September 17th. Again, the weather was great, the staff accommodating, and the service was good. As the evening progressed and the air chilled a bit, the fires were lit lending a cozy feel to the atmosphere. The entertainment, The Two Dollar Bill Band, played some of our favorites from the 70's and 80's. See you at the next Blue Mountain happy hour, Saturday, October 8 th. Oktoberfest 2016: Recap by Mary Ann Bedics Just when we thought the weather was not going to cooperate for the PSC annual Oktoberfest, we were surprised with a pretty good day. Bill had all of the tarps in place and the picnic tables set up in the garage as a precaution. The rain held off until 5:30, starting shortly after the last of the food was served. We were able to spend the day outdoors, sipping fine wines and beers, indulging in the split pea soup, the wursts, and the German foods. Almost sixty Ptarmigans joined in the festivities. There were some mean games of Bocce going on despite the swarming gnats! Thank you to the set-up and clean-up crews. Again, we are so fortunate that Bill Ortner hosts this annual event. Thank you also to all who brought appetizers or desserts to share. The campfire did get rained out, a small glitch in an otherwise pretty good day!

5 Join us for Ptarmigan Ski Club s... TUESDAY NOVEMBER 8, Ptarmigan s General Meeting :00 to 7:30pm: Social Hour 7:30 to 9:00pm: Gen. Mtg. & Expo Knights of Columbus 1519 W. Greenleaf Street Allentown, PA FREE ADMISSION Due to scheduling conflicts, and challenges outside of our control, we have been challenged to find enough Exhibitors to fill the Fullerton Fire Company, and host the big Expo we are accustomed to. At the risk of compromising the integrity of the Winter Sports Expo, and disappointing our members and patrons, we ve decided to host a mini Expo at our General Meeting in November. Hosting the mini-expo gives us the chance to do a few things: 1. Continue to host an event that will benefit our Members, 2. Continue to raise funds for the Special Olympics, 3. Continue to mingle with Ski Area Reps, Industry Pros, Travel Partners, and those that can help us play in the colder months, and 4. Win stuff! As usual, we plan to have Lift Ticket Raffles, a Live Auction, and Door Prizes. We have received donations and plan to receive more; we ll give those away to whoever the lucky raffle winners are. So come out, mix and mingle, chat with the Reps, buy a few Raffle Tickets, and enjoy the night with us. Thanks for your understanding, thanks for your patronage, and thanks for your continued support! Raffles: 7:00 8:45pm Live Auction: 8:30pm Raffle Winners Announced: 8:45 9pm
