We are looking for your support this winter by donating gift boxes for the many children enduring difficult lives in refugee camps in Lesvos, Greece. We make a living by what we get But we make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill Gift boxes could be made for either girls or boys, or could contain items suitable for either. Toys, personal care and craft items such as colouring books, puzzles, stories, yo-yos, teddy bears, action figures or dolls all would be wonderful! Try to avoid sweets as these would need to be Halal or vegetarian. We would LOVE it if each tutor group could put together a gift box for this important appeal. Thank you so much for your support. English Schools Elite Football Cup Year 7 This competition has put together the best 64 footballing schools in the country. Recent previous winners have included; Dele Ali, Jesse Lingard, Harry Kane.

2 English Schools Elite Football Cup Year 7 This competition has put together the best 64 footballing schools in the country. Recent previous winners have included; Dele Ali, Jesse Lingard, Harry Kane. This was to be one of the hardest games that Callington has ever played. The game started at a frantic pace. For 5 minutes Callington hardly touched the ball but defended brilliantly. This was clearly going to be a war of attrition. Slowly Callington got a foothold in the game. Using the height of their lone striker to full effect. Passes began to flow and Ivybridge were unable to match the high tempo and desire of the Callington players. In the 20 th minute Ed Harrsion won the ball, beat his man and curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. No more than they had deserved - Callington took the lead. For the final 10 minutes of the first half the 8 boys and 1 girl showed unbelievable heart throwing their bodies in front of every shot to ensure that Ivybridge did not get a shot on goal. The second half saw a fired up Ivybridge start the second half on the front foot. Tackle after tackle, block after block, save after save came in from the Callington players. However, the inevitable happened, and after three blocks on the goal line Ivybridge scored from close range. Many a team would have folded, however, the Callington team visibly grew as the game went on - they had worked too hard to lose this game. They began to pass the I could not be prouder of the team they showed unbelievable resilience. The whole year 7 Football Academy trains so hard every week and this is a reward for all 60 players who attend the Academy. Mr Hazeldine ball and show their technical excellence as well as their heart and desire. Chance after chance fell to all of the Callington players; some one on ones missed and great saves now from the Ivybridge keeper. Then in the final minute with the game destined for penalties a long ball from Ben Alford released JJ Brenton through on goal - he ran the length of the pitch, his powerful drive destined for the top corner was somehow saved, the rebound fell to the Ivybridge defender but JJ slid in to poke the ball towards the goal. Time stopped as the ball rolled towards and over the goal line. In the final minute of the game Callington had done it, they had beaten Ivybridge and reached the last 32 in the country. A trip to Bournemouth on December 4 th awaits the team.

Library update Callington Community College s new library is now starting to look like a library. Students and staff have been working hard to prepare the room with appropriate furnishings.

3 Library update Callington Community College s new library is now starting to look like a library. Students and staff have been working hard to prepare the room with appropriate furnishings. We have sourced a wonderful selection of books for students. These books are now in the library and starting to be catalogued, stickered for the Accelerated Reader programme, and shelved. The English student ambassadors are doing a marvellous job of getting the new books ready to be shelved and arranging the books on shelves. Year 8 students have been taking STAR tests this week. The results of these tests will help students to select books to read for enjoyment and pleasure as soon as the library opens. We cannot wait to see students take out their first book using the brand new kiosk system in upcoming weeks. You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book. Dr Seuss If you have any library books at home that are overdue, please return them to the public library or place in the box opposite the Key Stage 3 office as soon as possible.
