Stuff-A-Bus 2018 Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action Agency and Fun Bus Adventures want to collect enough non-perishable food donations to fill a shuttle bus. The donations will be made available to income-eligible individuals who visit the LFCAA Choice Food Pantry. Please deposit donations in the donation box at Olivedale. The campaign COMMUNITY NEWS runs thru Wednesday, December 12. The Fun Bus will pick up the donations to help feed hungry families in our community this holiday season. Thank you for your support. Lancaster Parks News Alley Park Santa In The Park - December 6th-8th 6:00p-8:00p. Wednesday, December 5th is Accessible Night with Santa. This is a sneak preview. Specific modifications will be made to accommodate all ages and abilities. Pickin In The Park - 2nd & 4th Wednesday evenings 7:00p-9:00p at Alley Park in lower level. 3 December 2018 The Oak Leaf Keep Valuables Safe When visiting Olivedale or the Olivedale Park Wellness Center, please remember to secure your valuables (including wallets or purses). You can lock them in the trunk of your car or there are lockers available in the wellness locker rooms. If members want to lock up belongings in a locker, a personal pad lock will have to be provided. Because Olivedale is a public building, we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items our members bring into the building. If a situation arises that something does come up missing, please check at the office to inquire if the item has been turned into the lost and found. We want your visits to be as safe and enjoyable as possible. COMMUNICATION CORNER Page 3 End of the Year Donations Tax time is right around the corner. If you are looking for a end of the year tax write off, remember that Olivedale is a 501c3 non-profit organization. There are different ways to donate to Olivedale. Direct donation to the office, as a memorial gift, designation to the Endowment (for facility improvements), an estate gift, or direct to the Fairfield County Foundation to the Olivedale Senior Citizens of Fairfield County fund. Any method is appreciated by your center. May you have kindness, love and patience in your heart during the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Coffee Club Join us 9:00a on Friday, December 7 to discuss the economy and other investment topics. Contact Allison Spangler for questions. 2nd Tuesday Lunch 2nd Tuesday Lunch will be held on Tuesday, December 11. Connie and her dedicated elves will be preparing a delicious holiday meal including ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, roll with butter and a special holiday dessert. Serving will be from 11:30a - 12:30p. Cost is $6. Reservation and payment due by Friday, December 7. Saturday Night Dances Keep Olivedale in mind when you make your Saturday night dance plans. Our kitchen opens at 6:00p on Saturday evenings when there is a scheduled dance. Food items and beverages are available for purchase. Waffle Breakfast Join us for our WAFFLE BREAKFAST every Thursday. Breakfast includes waffles, sausage, juice, and coffee or tea, all for $4, served 8:00a- 10:00a. Open to the public. Please pay at the office. PANCAKE BREAKFAST & TOPPING BAR Join us on Wednesday, December 19, enjoy all you can eat pancakes served with all sorts of fun toppings, your choice of bacon or sausage, juice and coffee or tea all for only $5.00. Eggs are $1.00 and extra meat servings $2.00 each. Breakfast is served from 9:00a-12:00p. Open to the public. Granny s Attic will also be open with many donated items sold at yard sale prices. Pies For Sale Place your pie order at the front desk Monday thru Wednesday for pick up Friday after 1:00p. Choose from Amish cream, banana, coconut, apple, cherry, butterscotch, chocolate, peach, pineapple or pumpkin. Fruit pies $8.00, cream pies $10.00 pre-paid at time of order.

4 Page 4 The Oak Leaf December 2018 Art Is 4 Every 1 Art is 4 Every 1 meets every Friday at 1:00p. The initial supply kit and class is $33 with follow-up classes only $20. Please call Patti Goltz to register for class at Ballroom Dance ~ Waltz Due to the holidays we will be limited on class time for the month of December. This month and continuing through January we will be learning the Waltz. This dance is known as the dance of the holiday season. With a count of 3 it is quite simple to learn. Join us on Fridays at 1:00p, no partner required and only $5 per lesson, to be prepaid at the office. (No class on December 7.) Basket Class ~ Basket Weave Lamp The December basket is a basket weave lamp. The basket base is woven on a 3 x8 D-handle. The base is 3 square and 5 deep. Total height of the lamp including the shade is approximately 14. Color accent choice of blue, green or burgundy. The cost is $ Join us Monday, December 10 at 9:00a. Registration and payment due by Monday, December 3. Class limit is 12 participants. Bridge Our Bridge group is looking for players. If you are interested in learning how to play counting points bridge contact the office at Clogging Class Clogging Class is held at 9:30a every Friday and the cost is $2.00 per class. Cornhole Olivedale Cornhole players are happy to welcome new members. Join the fun every Monday and Thursday at 3:30p. Classes And More Crocheting and Knitting Class Free crocheting and knitting classes are offered on Thursday s at 11:00a. Bring any current project or if you are a beginner supplies will be provided. If you have any questions, call the Olivedale office. Line Dance There are classes for dancers of all experience levels, day and evening. Check the newsletter calendar for days and times. Open to all Olivedale members. Class fee is $3 a person or $5 a couple (See pg. 2 Lancaster Parks News for the fee for Monday evening Parks & Recreation class). Mahjongg If you play Mah Jongg with tiles or cards, come and join us on Fridays! Friday mornings at 10:00a is devoted to Chinese version and at 1:00p we play using the National Mah Jongg League card. If you want to learn, please call Karen Wagner at Ping Pong The Olivedale Table Tennis Group is looking for players. If you are interested check the Olivedale calendar for playing times. All skills welcome. Tai Chi Tai Chi is an energizing form of exercise that can be done standing or sitting. Beginners are welcome. Classes are held Monday s with Intermediate Tai Chi class at 1:00p and Beginning Tai Chi at 2:00p. Cost is $3.25 at time of class, no pre-registration necessary. Western Square Dance Western Square Dance class is held on Thursdays at 6:00p. No partner required and the cost is $5 per person at the time of class.

Take steps to stay healthy during this time of year. Maintain your workouts through the holidays to ease stress and help avoid that dreaded weight gain that happens all too often this time of year. Good hand washing procedures and hygiene will help avoid illness such as cold and flu. Be sure to take care of your mental health as well by being in touch with family and friends. Staying healthy through the holiday will help jump start those January resolutions. The pool will be open for open pool only December NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE POOL ALONE so bring a member friend. The POOL will be closed Dec 31-Jan11. The Fitness Center including equipment and classes will be closed Jan 1-4 and will reopen Jan 7 as normal. As the New Year approaches remember exercising with a friend will help keep you motivated and make it more fun. Just a reminder our wellness center is open to ages 35 and older. Bring a friend! We have lots of different classes for all levels of fitness. Have a Happy Healthy Holiday! Pool Sign-Up for Winter II Session, (January 14 - March 8) starts Monday, January 7. Please pick up registration slips at the front desk prior to sign up. Be sure all medical and waiver paperwork is up-to-date through March.

Rambling Designers Garden Club The Rambling Designers will have their annual Christmas luncheon at 12:00p on Tuesday, December 4 at Olivedale. Blue Moon catering will provide their usual delicious food. Spouses are welcome. Those who wish to participate in the Crazy Santa Game should bring a wrapped gift for the game (the gift can be real or a joke gift, suggested value around $10.00). Members who have a Secret Friend should bring a gift for your friend and reveal your identity inside the gift. Members who plan to attend the luncheon should have had their reservations to Pat Wilkinson by November 24. Red Glad Hatters The Red Glad Hatters will have their annual Christmas Luncheon on Friday, December 14 at 12:00p at the Rising House located at 131 North High St. Lancaster. Please make your reservation no later than Friday, December 7 to your hostesses, Linda Groves and Clara Bierly. We are blessed to share this magical time of the season as we end another wonderful year as Red Hat Sisters. We will be having a $10 gift exchange for those who would like to participate. RSVP required by 4:00p, Monday, December 3. Weather Closings During inclement weather watch local news channels NBC, CBS or ABC for closings. Olivedale closes at a level 2 snow emergency or at the discretion of Management. We do not follow the same protocol as the local school system. If closed, it will be for the entire day and all activities will be cancelled. Every attempt will be made to change the general mail box message on the phone to reflect the closing. In the near future we will be able to send group /text notifications of closing or emergencies.
