The following year you make the same resolutions. It becomes a vicious cycle. Here are some ideas to help you stick with it in Make SMART goals: Specific make the goal specific for example, getting more exercise is less specific than I ll exercise 3 days a week. Measurable making the goal specific helps make it measurable. For example I will eat healthier is not as measurable as perhaps I will eat fruit or vegetables with each meal. Achievable make the goal realistic. Setting a goal of losing 30lbs in a month is not very realistic and most likely not healthy. Make your goal something you have to work for but something you can achieve. Relevant Your goal should be important to you. Setting a goal because someone else thinks you should do it is more likely to fail than one you are personally attached to. Time-based Setting smaller goals along the way can help you reach your larger goals. For example setting a goal of having my entire house cleaned and organized by the end of the year leaves no sense of urgency and is easily forgotten. I will clean and organize one room this month might be a better goal to set and then another the following month to take small steps to reach the original goal. Talk about your goals with friends. Having a good support system will help keep you Motivated. Never let a small set back get you down. We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things because we re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. Walt Disney
