3 May 2018 The Oak Leaf Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Results The money results are in for the spaghetti dinner fundraiser. Without the help of our community sponsors we could not have pulled this off. A BIG thank you goes to Gorsuch West Elementary and Ms. Garrett for their participation with selling tickets and donating back to the center. What a great lesson from our youth about community service and giving back. After all donations were in with the exception of a possible additional $500, Olivedale made $2,390. There are still baskets that will be raffled off in the next several months. Page 3 COMMUNICATION CORNER We will start with the basket pictured to the right. Tickets can be purchased for this basket at any time after May 1st at the office. Each ticket is $1 or 6 tickets for $5. The Ohio State basket contains a buckeye necklace, shower curtain, Hot pad, cup, toilet paper cover, night light, plastic snap lock containers, coasters, potholder and hot/ cold bowl holders & mug. Do I hear $1? Coffee Club Join us 9:00a on Friday, May 4 to discuss the economy and other investment topics. Contact Allison Spangler for questions. 2nd Wednesday Lunch April showers bring May flowers and a Wednesday 2nd Tuesday lunch (due to Tuesday Election Day). Join us Wednesday, May 9 for ham potpie, mashed potatoes, California blend vegetables, rolls with butter and for dessert a pineapple upside down cupcake. Serving will be from 11:30a - 12:30p and the cost is only $6. Reservation must be made by Friday, May 4th. Waffle Breakfast Waffleologist Larry is preparing his famous waffles Thursday from 8:00a - 10:00a. $4 per person includes a waffle, sausage, juice, and coffee or tea. Open to the public and please pay at the office. Pancake Breakfast & Quilt Show Our last pancake breakfast is Wednesday, May 16. Serving a hearty breakfast of all the pancakes you can eat served with bacon, juice, coffee or tea, served from 7:30a 10:30a and only $4.00 per person with extra sides available for 50. Granny s Attic will be open. Also, check out the Quilt Show on Tuesday, May 15 and Wednesday 16 from 9:00a to 5:00p. Fish Fry Our first fish fry of the season is Tuesday, May 22 from 4:30-6:30p. On the menu are 2 generous servings of fish along with a baked potato and coleslaw. Take-out is available and pre-sale tickets are ready at the office, adults $8, children $4. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, but may be limited. Open to the public so treat the entire family! Pies For Sale Place your pie order at the front desk Monday thru Wednesday for pick up Friday after 1:00p. Choose from Amish cream, banana, coconut, apple, cherry, butterscotch, chocolate, peach, pineapple or pumpkin. Fruit pies $8.00, cream pies $10.00 pre-paid at time of order.

4 Page 4 The Oak Leaf May 2018 Art Is 4 Every 1 Art is 4 Every 1 meets every Tuesday at 1:00p. The initial supply kit and class is $33 with follow-up classes only $20. Please call Patti Goltz to register for class at Ballroom Dance ~ Samba Samba, the dance of joy and celebrations at Carnivals in Rio de Janeiro, is coming to Olivedale in May. Considered by most ballroom instructors as an Africanized Polka with Brazilian roots, due to it having the same down and down footwork as Polka. Our ballroom dance teacher Stan The Dance Man will demonstrate the proper technique and presence for this lively dance. No partner is needed and classes are every Friday at 1:00p, $5 per session, payable at the front office before class starts. Basket Class ~ Iris Mail Basket The May basket will be a mail basket woven with lovely iris flowers. Measuring 9 x 3 1/2 x 12 including the handle it is a perfect springtime. The cost for this basket is $30 and there is class limit of 10 participants. Class will be held on Monday, May 14 at 9:00a. Registration and payment due by Monday, May 7. Clogging Class Clogging Class is held at 9:30a every Friday. If you are a beginner take advantage of our Beginner Clogging Class held at 9:30a every Monday. The cost for all clogging classes is $2.00 per class. Classes And More Crocheting and Knitting Class Olivedale offers a free crocheting and knitting class on Thursday s at 11:00a. Bring any current project or if you are a beginner supplies will be provided. If you have any questions, call the Olivedale office. Line Dance There are classes for dancers of all experience levels, day and evening. Check the newsletter calendar for days and times. Open to all Olivedale members. Class fee is $3 a person or $5 a couple (See pg. 2 Lancaster Parks News for the fee for Monday evening Parks & Recreation class). Mahjongg Are you a snowbird just returning? Do all of your friends play Mahjongg in the south? We will be continuing our new class on Friday s. If you are new to Mahjongg please let the office know whether you want to join the 10:00a or the 1:00p lesson. Come and enjoy the mental stimulation and meet new and old friends! Ping Pong The Olivedale Table Tennis Group is looking for players. If you are interested check the Olivedale calendar for playing times. All skills welcome. Tai Chi Tai Chi is an energizing form of exercise that can be done standing or sitting. Beginners are welcome. Classes are held Monday s with Intermediate Tai Chi class at 1:00p and Beginning Tai Chi at 2:00p. Cost is $3.25 at time of class, no pre-registration necessary.

Take an Exercise Class Our Silver Sneakers Classic class is a great place to start. You don t have to be a silver sneakers member to participate in the class. Also consider Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi, all of which can improve balance and flexibility decreasing your chances of falling. A water aerobics class is another fun way to increase physical fitness, Especially if you have arthritis or chronic pain. Get Involved in a Sport Olivedale has many options available including chair volleyball, ping pong, and Bike Club. Lighten Up Your Diet Many healthy fruits and veggies come into season in the spring so replace those heavy winter meals. Cut down your chances of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and arthritis, by making diet improvements. Drink Lots of Water Some benefits of drinking water include increase in energy, relief of fatigue, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins, improves skin complexion, and prevents muscle cramps. Drink your water! Dress for the Weather Spring weather is unpredictable at times. Dress in layers and be prepared for weather changes. Health is a State of Body. Wellness is a State of Being.

Military Veterans of Olivedale There will be no regular meeting on May 7, as we are going to COSI. On May 21, our guest speaker will be Park Russell of the Veterans Service Office of Fairfield Co. The Annual Stand Down will be on May 23 and our members are encouraged to sign up to work that day. This is one of many opportunities to support our veterans in the community. Tickets for our Spring Raffle are available from any member. We are raffling a huge handmade American Flag afghan. We are hoping to visit Flying Horse Farms in June. It is a free camp for seriously ill children and their families.
