3 January 2016 The Oak Leaf Page 3 Courtesy It s funny how people always tend to trip over their own feet. It s funny how they can run into a sign, while walking down a street. It s funny how putting Mentos in your friend s cola makes it foam. It s funny how on Halloween you can go and T.P. someone's home. It s funny how people jump when someone yells 'SURPRISE! '. It s funny how many truths are backed upon lies. There are a lot of 'funny' things people can do, but I bet they aren't as funny when people do them to you. Care about others. Think before you do. COMMUNICATION CORNER And you will find out life will be much more fun, and enjoyable for you. When Olivedale groups are having events, please be considerate of their time and space. Perhaps that second cup of coffee can wait until the event is over. Conceivably, coffee may have been provided to your group so there is no need to interrupting the event. There are many activities happening at Olivedale all at once and each group deserves to have their space and activity with as little disruption as possible. Olivedale is a place to have fun. So be ever mindful because one day it could be your group and event. Happy New Year. Here s hoping 2016 brings more love, hope and kindness to all. But there are heart attack triggers that may surprise you. Think of these triggers as the 4 E s: Exertion, Exposure to cold (or heat), Emotion and Eating. Exertion: Avoid over strenuous activities if you are not used to doing them on a regular basis. Exposure: Cold temperatures add to increased risk for heart attacks because they cause arteries to constrict which can lead to a sudden rise in blood pressure. Combine this with increased exertion (think, shoveling snow) and the results can be deadly. Intense Emotion: Extreme emotions, both good and bad, can have an adverse effect upon the electrical impulses of the heart. This is due to the body s involuntary and sudden increase in both heart rate and blood pressure. Eating a big meal: a heavy meal can trigger a heart attack within 26 hours following the meal. Eating raises the hormone norepinephrine, which can increase both heart rate and blood pressure. Other heart attack risks include excessive drug and alcohol use, too much caffeine and air pollution. Keep these items in mind as you head into the New Year and make it a healthy one! Pool Sign-Up for Winter II Session, (January 18 - March 11) starts Monday, January 11. Please pick up registration slips at the front desk prior to sign up. Be sure all medical and waiver paperwork is up-to-date through March.
