The greeter does need to complete some training, their role is to help assist with the initial sign in paperwork. Meetings open to all members. The elected Board of Directors represent the members of Olivedale. They welcome comments from all members. Please feel free to approach any of the listed Directors to express your concerns or write them down and place them in the Board suggestion box located inside the front entrance. 3 October 2018 The Oak Leaf R-E-S-P-E-C-T The definition of RESPECT is: an act of giving particular attention / high or special regard / the quality or state of being esteemed. The Olivedale and Park staff work diligently to provide a clean and safe atmosphere for all members, holding the facility in high regard as a gem of the Parks system. The Olivedale facility should be treated with great respect by each member so that all members can enjoy it equally. As a member, if Page 3 COMMUNICATION CORNER you spill something or drop food on the floor, please be respectful enough to clean up or let the office know there is a mess that might become a safety concern so it can be dealt with immediately. We are very fortunate to have a senior center and Park facility with all the activities, events and wellness programs available. Olivedale has existed for 46 years and hopefully, with the love and care of its members and the dedicated staff, will be here for another 46 and beyond. Thank you. Coffee Club Join us 9:00a on Friday, October 5 to discuss the economy and other investment topics. Contact Allison Spangler for questions. 2nd Tuesday Lunch Join us Tuesday, October 9 for homemade chicken potpie, peas and corn, and a roll with butter. As always Connie will be serving a sweet treat for dessert. Serving will be from 11:30a -12:30p and the cost is only $6. Reservation must be made by Friday, October 5. Waffle Breakfast Join us for our WAFFLE BREAKFAST every Thursday. Breakfast includes waffles, sausage, juice, and coffee or tea, all for $4, served 8:00a- 10:00a. Open to the public. Please pay at the office. PANCAKE BREAKFAST & TOPPING BAR The Olivedale annual Wood Carving Show will be held in conjunction with the monthly pancake breakfast on Wednesday, October 17, enjoy all you can eat pancakes served with all sorts of fun toppings, your choice of bacon or sausage, juice and coffee or tea all for only $5.00. Eggs are $1.00 and extra meat servings $2.00 each. Breakfast is served from 9:00a-12:00p. Open to the public. Granny s Attic will also be open with many donated items sold at yard sale prices. Plan to take time to check out the splendid exhibit by our woodcarvers. Vote for your favorite piece at the show from 8:00a- 12:00p. Set up for the show is Tuesday, October 16 at 3:00p. Pies For Sale Place your pie order at the front desk Monday thru Wednesday for pick up Friday after 1:00p. Choose from Amish cream, banana, coconut, apple, cherry, butterscotch, chocolate, peach, pineapple or pumpkin. Fruit pies $8.00, cream pies $10.00 pre-paid at time of order. Saturday Night Dances Keep Olivedale in mind when you make your Saturday night dance plans. Our kitchen opens at 6:00p on Saturday evenings when there is a scheduled dance. Food items and beverages are available for purchase.

4 Page 4 The Oak Leaf October 2018 Art Is 4 Every 1 Art is 4 Every 1 meets every Friday at 1:00p. The initial supply kit and class is $33 with follow-up classes only $20. Please call Patti Goltz to register for class at Ballroom Dance ~ Bolero This month, Stan the Dance Man teaches the Caribbean s most romantic and sentimental dance; Bolero. This slow dance is characterized by smooth, gliding movement, dramatic arm styling and a romantic feel. Its simplicity has made it popular all over the world, so much so, that it is one of the most frequently danced rhythms in all scenes and in all social classes. Classes are held Fridays at 1:00p. No partner required and the cost is $5 per person to be prepaid at the office. Basket Class ~ Field Basket The October basket is a field basket. It measures approximately 13 in diameter by 13 tall. This heavy duty basket features bushel-basket handles. The cost is $39. Join us Monday October 15 at 9:00a. Registration and payment due by Tuesday, October 9. Class limit is 12 participants. Clogging Class Clogging Class is held at 9:30a every Friday and the cost is $2.00 per class. Beginner s class is on Mondays at 9:30a also $2.00 per class. Cornhole Our friendly Olivedale Cornhole players are happy to welcome new members. Join the fun every Monday and Thursday at 3:30p. Check the calendar for any cancellations. Crocheting and Knitting Class Olivedale offers a free crocheting and knitting Classes And More class on Thursday s at 11:00a. Bring any current project or if you are a beginner supplies will be provided. If you have any questions, call the Olivedale office. Line Dance There are classes for dancers of all experience levels, day and evening. Check the newsletter calendar for days and times. Open to all Olivedale members. Class fee is $3 a person or $5 a couple (See pg. 2 Lancaster Parks News for the fee for Monday evening Parks & Recreation class). Mahjongg Do all of your friends play Mahjongg in the south? We will be continuing our new class on Friday s. If you are new to Mahjongg please let the office know whether you want to join the 10:00a or the 1:00p lesson. Come and enjoy the mental stimulation and meet new and old friends! Ping Pong The Olivedale Table Tennis Group is looking for players. If you are interested check the Olivedale calendar for playing times. All skills welcome. Tai Chi Tai Chi is an energizing form of exercise that can be done standing or sitting. Beginners are welcome. Classes are held Monday s with Intermediate Tai Chi class at 1:00p and Beginning Tai Chi at 2:00p. Cost is $3.25 at time of class, no pre-registration necessary. Note: No classes will be held on Monday, October 22. Western Square Dance Western Square Dance class will begin on Thursday, October 18 at 6:00p. No partner required and the cost is $5 per person at the time of class. No Pre-register required.

The best way to start is with the Alley Park Pumpkin Hike on Saturday, October 20. Bonfire and concessions are 5:00p to 7:30p in the Nature Center parking lot. Hike starts at Nature Center Parking Lot from 6:30p to 8:30p. Warm your soul. Below is a 97 calorie Pumpkin Latte recipe vs. many menu choice Pumpkin Spice 300 calorie lattes. Ingredients: 1 tbsp. sugar-free French vanilla powdered creamer 1 no-calorie sweetener packet 2 tsp. instant coffee granules 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, or more for topping 2 tbsp. canned pure pumpkin 1/2 cup light vanilla soymilk 1/4 cup Fat Free Reddi-wip Directions: Place powdered creamer, sweetener, coffee granules, and pumpkin pie spice in a tall microwave-safe mug or glass. Add 3/4 cup very hot water and stir until creamer and coffee granules have dissolved. Add canned pumpkin and stir until blended. Add soymilk and mix well. Microwave for seconds, until hot. Give it a stir, and top with Reddi-Wip. Sprinkle with additional pumpkin pie spice, if you like, and enjoy! Rambling Designers Garden Club The Rambling Designers will meet in Olivedale s lower parking lot at 12:30p on Tuesday, October 2 to carpool for a trip to Timberlane Llama Farm. It is located near Somerset at 5308 Stagecoach Road. Donna Moore, owner-operator, will give us a tour and introduce us to her llamas including 3 babies born in September. Donna invites visitors to bring buckets and carry home some llama manure which is an excellent, odor-free, and acid-free fertilizer for gardens. Red Glad Hatters The Red Glad Hatters will meet at 11:15a on Friday, October 19 Olivedale to for a Red Glad Hatters Road Trip to Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan. We will be car pooling so please contact Jeanie Hughes if you need a ride to this event. Your hostesses for this event are Ann Foraker and Naomi Gillenwater. Walker s Club Join us Thursday, October 4 for a hike at Chestnut Ridge. We will meet at Olivedale at 8:15a for an 8:30a departure. Olivedale will host an educational seminar Wednesday, October 3 at 5:30p presented by a local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark D Onofrio, on how to manage hip, shoulder and knee joint pain and available treatment options ranging from conservative therapies to joint replacement. Refreshments will be provided. 80+ Birthday Celebration* Invitations have been mailed and RSVP s received for the 80+ Celebration, sponsored by Fairfield Federal. We will gather at 10:30a on October 5, guest transport will be available to and from the parking lot. We are excited to welcome Garland Snyder as our entertainer beginning at 11:00a with lunch to follow. Doofus, alias Randy Newman, has established himself as a World Class Violinist. The Ozark Jubilee Band consists of some of the best musicians and singers in the business today. In this show you will hear holiday songs some old and some new.
