Eat More Fiber. You ve probably heard this before. But do you know why fiber is good for your health? Dietary fiber, found mainly in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. But foods containing fiber can provide other health benefits as well. Fiber in whole foods can help you feel full while processed foods are higher in caloric values and lower in nutrition. Fiber can help you maintain a healthy weight, lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Selecting tasty foods that provide fiber is not difficult. Determine how much daily fiber your body needs, the foods that contain it, and how to add them to foods and snacks. 15 versus the number of grams of fiber the average American eats daily, versus the recommended for women and men, respectively, according to the 2010 American Dietary Guidelines. Pool sign up for Spring II session begins Monday, April 15. Make sure your paperwork is up-todate.
