2 Cross Country Travelling to Eildon PS for the Cluster Cross Country last week was lovely. The autumn colour was perfect and the excitement of the students looking forward to their races was high. Mrs Male, Mr Fisher and I were very proud of the sportsmanship of our students, and the encouragement they gave to their peers was great. The students all ran to the best of their ability and many are already thinking about how they can improve their placing next year. The following students will be par cipa ng in the Division event on the Yea Racecourse on 2nd June 2015 Melody, Abbey, Cassy, Angus, Breanna, Shayla, Zoee, Nellie and Jayden. Good luck to these runners and congratula ons to all our students who have been training and ran at the Cluster Cross Country. Anzac Day It seems that all Anzac services were well a ended this year and Yea s service on Saturday was no excep on. It was a wonderful service and an example of how the whole community can work together to achieve something special. Our singing group were so pa ent and respec ul standing for a long me before they sang and then listening and par cipa ng in the service. The songs they sang were enjoyed by many in the audience who joined in the singing. Thank you to Sal and Miss Fillmore for their prepara on for this event and also Miss Fillmore for suppor ng the students to make poppies in class for the many white crosses that were opposite the cenotaph. Holly, Melody, Hunter and Tobias lay flowers on behalf of our school during the service and Caleb a ended the Glenburn service and represented our school in that community. Our Parents & Friend s under the organisa on of Kylie Warren provided a delicious morning tea for many people in the community a er the service at the RSL. It was a very busy morning for all our parents and all the support was appreciated by the school and Yea community. Student Survey Every year the Grade 5 and 6 students are required to fill out a student survey set up by the DET (Department of Educa on & Training). This was completed on Monday and the results are sent to the school later in the year. Yea High School students Syrena, Colby, Chloe and Declan students at Yea HS are running soccer sessions with our students on Wednesdays at pm. Last week the Founda on students enjoyed some skills ac vi es and then a short game. The following dates and mes are for the rest of the school. 29 th April: Grade 1 6 th May: Grade 3/4 13 th May: Grade 2 20 th May: Grade 5/6 Breakfast Club We are in need of a couple of toasters for breakfast club. If you have a spare toaster that you are able to donate to the school it would be appreciated. Thank you, Deb School Crossing Safety Award this week goes to Sophie & Sarah Jade & Taj Being Persistent and Resilient! Issue No. 11 Page 2 30th April 2015
3 CHAPPY S CHAT From the School Chaplain A BIG hello to the Yea Primary School community! This is my third week at Yea Primary School and it s been lovely meeting many children, parents and staff. So far we have started a Lunchtime Live activities group at lunchtimes which involves sports, games, crafts, cartooning, dance and lots more for any students who wishes to participate. I ve also been spending a lot of time assisting in the classroom which has been very beneficial in learning lots of names! I also get the opportunity to add to the newsletter! This week I wanted to mention that there are five ways to express love emotionally. Each care giver and child has a primary love language that, when spoken, makes us feel loved. They are listed below: ACTS OF SERVICE- Do you remember the old saying, "Actions speak louder than words"? This may look like: * Helping or being helped with chores, school projects, making meals and snacks etc. PHYSICAL TOUCH- Long before an infant understands the meaning of the word love, he or she feels loved by physical touch. This may look like: * Receiving kisses, hugs, cuddles and high fives Physical ac vi es: racing, wrestling, climbing in your lap etc. QUALITY TIME Giving your child your undivided attention is important. This may look like: * Eating together, reading a story, playing a game/sport, doing crafts together etc May this information bless you in your parenting. Keep smiling! Shelley Davis (School Chaplain) We would love to receive any dona ons of wood offcuts or tools to aid our boys woodworking group this term. Please give any dona ons to Jonathan Fisher. Thank you for your help! Shelley School Uniform Shop Open every Thursday Before & after school TIMES 8:50am 9:10am 3:00pm 3:20pm 3:20pm Don t forget that every Tuesday is School Banking day. Students need to bring in their deposit book on this day. It will be returned at the end of the week. Issue No 11 Page 3 30th April 2015
4 DOLLY'S DISCO BINGO will be a hilarious night that will have you tapping your dabbers, dancing like a maniac from Fame and singing in your seat to all the classics. Disco Bingo puts the DISCO into BINGO and the fun into a boring Friday night, Dolly plays 20 secs of a well known song for players to mark off on their Disco Bingo tickets. A disco bingo round mixes up the music from all genres... so even the musically challenged can play. It s just like regular bingo, but instead of shouting out numbers we play songs! Bingo without the balls! No 'Dancing Queen 17', just the music... WHEN: Friday 8th May TIME: 7:30pm - 10pm... WHERE: Yea Shire Hall TICKETS: $25 pp. Tickets available from Yea Primary School Office. BYO Nibbles and Drinks Tables of 10 - make your own or we can match you up. LOTS OF PRIZES! Including Best Dressed! Tickets need to be purchased before event as there will be no tickets available on the night or at the door. A huge thank you to all the families that chipped in to make the Anzac day catering fundraiser an absolute success on Saturday! It was a huge effort with our cakes, slices and sandwiches going down a treat at the RSL for lunch. Thank you to the following; Amanda Jolly, Maree Boyd, Natasha Ward, Liz Bastion, Karen Anstey, Gaye Garlick, Belinda Fisher, Kelly Harris, Sal Phillips, Brenda Stritch, Erin Papadopolous, Anne Smith, Heather Luke, Jane Marks, Belinda Dean, Leisel Gaetano, Megan Santarossa, Natalie Fulford, Lisa Russo, Deb Redding, Katherine Briggs, Tina Brunt, Beth Turvey, Carol Ross, Fiona Purvis, Meagan McLeish, Deb Schickerling, Cassie Crowe, Melly Henwood, Yujuan Qi, Jo Dignam, Kylie Fountain, Jane Finlay and of course Kay Granter (& kids), Amanda Ross (& kids), Lesley Hartman, Nick Behm, Nellie & Audrey Warren-Behm and the lovely kids from Yea High School who gave up their time on the day to help out. Without all of your hard work this would not have been possible. There are many plates for collection in the School office. Regards Kylie Warren. Issue No. 11 Page 4 30th April 2015
