USU hasn t had a losing season since 1993, a span of 18 years. Utah State has won 18 of its last 24 road games dating back to the season and is (.565) in road games under head coach Stew Morrill including a (.483) record against non-conference opponents. This year, USU is 1-3 on the road with losses at Weber State (73-63), Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (58-55 OT) and Pacific (65-57), and a road win at Idaho State (75-62). Utah State is (.788) during the month of December under Morrill, which includes a (.433) record on the road. USU is also (.741) in games played on Saturday under Morrill and 7-6 (.538) all-time in known games played on Dec. 10. Utah State is 8-15 (.348) all-time against teams from the state of Kansas as it is 2-5 against Kansas, 0-5 against Kansas State, 0-1 against Emporia State and 6-4 against Wichita State. Utah State head coach Stew Morrill is 8-4 (.667) all-time against current members of the Missouri Valley Conference as he is 3-1 against Drake, 2-2 against Creighton, 2-1 against Illinois State and 1-0 versus Wichita State. While at USU, Morrill is 5-1 against the MVC as he is 2-0 against Drake, 2-1 against Illinois State and 1-0 against Wichita State. Utah State has won 47 of its last 54 regular season games dating back to the season. Utah State is one of just three teams in the nation to win at least 23 games in each of the last 12 seasons along with Gonzaga and Kansas. The previous USU record for consecutive 20-win seasons was three from 1962 to Overall, USU has won 20 or more games 26 times in school history. During the last 12 years, Utah State has averaged 25.8 wins per season. LOOKING AT UTAH STATE Utah State is 4-4 on the season after defeating Utah Valley at home, 63-54, Tuesday. Utah State began the year with a home win against Brigham Young, followed by a road loss at Weber State, a home win against Southern Utah, a overtime road loss at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, a road win at Idaho State, a home loss to Denver, and a road loss at Pacific. USU is led by senior guard Brockeith Pane who is averaging 12.6 points and 3.3 assists per game, and is shooting 36.2 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from three-point range and 80.0 percent at the free throw line. Redshirt sophomore guard Preston Medlin is averaging 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and is shooting 45.9 percent from the field, 48.6 percent from three-point range and 63.6 percent at the free throw line. And senior forward Morgan Grim is averaging 10.9 points and 6.3 rebounds, and is shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 71.4 percent at the free throw line. As a team, Utah State is averaging 62.6 points and shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from three-point range and 64.5 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, USU is allowing 62.9 points and its opponents are shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from three-point range and 72.8 percent at the free throw line. RANKING UTAH STATE IN THE WAC As of Thursday, Dec. 8, Utah State ranks first in the WAC in scoring defense (62.9), second in field goal percentage (.435), second in three-point field goal percentage (.384), second in field goal percentage defense (.408), fourth in three-point field goal percentage defense (.324), fifth in rebounding margin (+1.4), fifth in blocked shots (2.88), sixth in free throw shooting (.645), sixth in rebounding (34.2), and sixth in scoring margin (-0.2). Individually, senior point guard Brockeith Pane ranks eighth in free throw shooting (.800), ninth in assists (3.25), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.00), 11th in scoring (12.6), and 11th in steals (1.13). Senior forward Morgan Grim ranks seventh in blocked shots (0.88), eighth in rebounding (6.3), 13th in field goal shooting (.433), and 13th in free throw shooting (.714). Sophomore redshirt guard Preston Medlin ranks in second in three-point shooting (.486), eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.14), eighth in overall shooting (.459), 10th in assists (3.00), and 13th in scoring (12.5). And junior forward Kyisean Reed ranks 10th in rebounding (5.6). UTAH STATE RETURNS JUST ONE STARTER AND FOUR LETTERMEN IN Utah State s one returning starter (Brockeith Pane) is its fewest since returning one starter during the season. USU finished with a 23-8 record that season, including tying for first-place in the Big West Conference with a 13-5 mark and advanced to the postseason National Invitation Tournament. USU s four returning lettermen (E.J. Farris, Morgan Grim, Brady Jardine, Brockeith Pane) are its fewest since returning three lettermen for the season. UTAH STATE LOSES FOUR STARTERS AND EIGHT LETTERWINNERS FROM 2011 NCAA TEAM Utah State lost four starters (Nate Bendall, Tyler Newbold, Tai Wesley, Pooh Williams) and four other letterwinners (Brad Brown, Matt Formisano, Brian Green, James Walker III) from last year s WAC Championship team. Wesley was named the WAC s Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American, while Green earned second-team all-wac honors and Newbold was named to the league s all-defensive team. Bendall and Wesley also joined current Aggie Brockeith Pane on the WAC s all-tournament team. FOLLOWING THE WICHITA STATE GAME Following its road game at Wichita State this weekend, Utah State will return home and begin a four-game homestand against Seattle University on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., in an event that will be televised regionally on KCSG-TV.

3 LOOKING BACK AT THE UTAH VALLEY GAME Sophomore guard Danny Berger and junior forward Kyisean Reed came off the bench to combine for 21 points, in helping the Utah State reserves to a nine-point advantage over their counterparts, which resulted in a nine-point victory, as the Aggies beat Utah Valley, 63-54, Tuesday. Sophomore starting guard Preston Medlin netted a team-high 13 points and a career-high six assists, while Reed added 11 points. Berger had 10 points, including seven in the second half, in only his second game of action, as USU led from start-to-finish. Utah Valley was led by Isiah Williams game-high 16 points while Kevin Woods added 10 points off the bench for the Wolverines. Senior guard Brockeith Pane added nine points to go along with a season-high tying four rebounds, while senior forward Morgan Grim added seven points. Grim and freshman center Jordan Stone led USU by snaring eight rebounds apiece, while Reed pulled down six boards in helping USU to a rebounding edge. Geddes Robinson snared a game-high nine rebounds for UVU. The Aggies shot 46.0 percent (23-50) from the field, making 5-of-11 (.455) behind the arc. USU was also 12-of-20 (.600) at the free throw line, hitting all four attempts in the final 30 seconds to seal the win. Utah Valley was 22-of-46 (.393) field goal shooting, also going 5-of-11 (.455) from three-point range, as Williams hit four. The Wolverines made half of their free throws (5-of-10). UVU s 54 points were a season-low for the USU defense. Points in the paint were even at and second-chance points were also level at eight apiece and USU scored 16 points off UVU s 13 turnovers while the Wolverines tallied 12 points off 14 Aggie turnovers, with the biggest difference being bench points, where USU had a advantage. The 27 bench points are the Aggies second-most of the season, behind 31 points in the Southern Utah game. A jumper and a three-pointer by Medlin at the 15:30 mark opened a 9-1 USU lead. Utah Valley cut the gap to two on a pair of occasions, the last at with 11:06 on the clock, but couldn t get any closer. Freshman guard Adam Thoseby hit two jumpers and Berger netted a three-pointer during an 11-3 Aggie run to open a lead with 6:56 remaining in the half, capped by a layup from Reed. The USU lead stretched to 15 with 3:52 left in the half after a Medlin trey, before UVU trimmed the margin to at halftime. The Wolverines clawed away at the deficit, cutting it to at the 11:46 mark following back-to-back buckets by Robinson. That would be the closest UVU would get, as Berger drained another three-pointer on USU s next possession, and Thoseby hit a jumper for an eight-point Aggie advantage at with 10:59 on the clock, forcing a UVU timeout. A jumper by Keith Thompson pulled the Wolverines within at the 7:20 mark, but the Aggies held them at bay as Berger hit a pair of layups sandwiched around a bucket by Medlin to open another eight-point lead at with 4:14 to go, and USU hung on for the win. NOTE-ABLES FROM THE UTAH VALLEY GAME Utah State has now won 26 straight home games against in-state opponents and is 28-1 at home against teams from the state of Utah under head coach Stew Morrill. Overall, USU has won 30 of its last 38 games against in-state competition and is against all teams from the state under Morrill. Utah State has now won 86 of its last 89 home games and is at home under Morrill. Utah State improved to 3-1 on the season and during the last 13 years following a loss. Utah State s 16 assists are its second-most this year and marks the fourth time it has had double-figure assists on the season. USU also tied its season-low with 12 fouls. Utah State s 27 points from its reserves are the second-most this year behind the 31 points it scored against Southern Utah. UTAH STATE STARTS A DIFFERENT LINEUP, AGAIN For the seventh time in eight games, Utah State started a different lineup against Utah Valley. On the season, USU has started 10 different players and only senior forward Morgan Grim and sophomore guard Preston Medlin have started every game. The Shockers, who are 4-0 at home this year, are led by senior guard Toure Murry who is averaging 13.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from three-point range and 78.4 percent at the free throw line. Senior guard Joe Ragland is averaging 11.8 points, senior center Garret Stutz is averaging 10.9 points and 7.0 rebounds, and senior guard David Kyles is averaging 9.9 points per game. As a team, Wichita State is scoring 74.4 points per game and shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three-point range and 67.3 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, WSU is allowing 63.2 points and its opponents are shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 28.4 percent from three-point range and 66.7 percent at the free throw line. Wichita State returns three starters and seven letterwinners from last year s team that went 29-9, finished in second-place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 14-4 record, and won the postseason National Invitational Tournament. Gregg Marshall is in his fifth year as the Shockers head coach and in 14 years as a collegiate head coach. UTAH STATE-WICHITA STATE SERIES Utah State and Wichita State will meet for the 11th time this weekend with the Aggies owning a 6-4 all-time advantage, which includes a 1-1 record on the road. The first game played in the series was during the season with USU posting a win. In fact, Utah State won the first three games played in the series before Wichita State notched a win during the season at the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The two teams also played one another during the and seasons at the All-College Tournament. The last meeting between the two teams was on Feb. 20, 2010 in Logan with Utah State winning, 68-58, in an ESPNU BracketBuster game. The last time WSU won a game in the series was on Nov. 24, 1995 in Hilo, Hawai i at the Big Island Invitational, 63-61, in double overtime, and the last time the two teams played one another in Wichita was on Feb. 23, 1966 with the Shockers winning, VERSUS THE MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE Utah State is (.533) all-time against current members of the Missouri Valley Conference as it is 1-2 against Bradley, 2-2 against Creighton, 2-1 against Drake, 2-0 against Evansville, 2-3 against Illinois State, 1-0 against Indiana State, 0-2 against Southern Illinois and 6-4 against Wichita State. 5 LAST MEETING AGAINST WICHITA STATE Utah State s defense held Wichita State without a field goal for 8:25 in the first half, going on a 10-0 run over that time, as the Aggies beat the Shockers, 68-58, on Feb. 20, 2010 in Logan. Three players posted double-figures for the Aggies, led by junior forwards Tai Wesley and Nate Bendall with a game-high 13 and 12 points, respectively. Sophomore forward Brady Jardine came off the bench to net 11 points, while pulling down seven rebounds. Senior guard Jared Quayle snared a game-high nine rebounds while dishing out seven assists. Quayle s game-leading assists were part of 22 dimes distributed by USU. Wichita State was led by JT Durley with 12 points and eight rebounds, while David Kyles came off the bench to post 11 points. USU had a rebounding advantage and dictated action in the paint with a points in the paint edge. Utah State shot 26-of-51 (.510) from the field. The Aggies, who entered the game leading the nation in three-pointer percentage (.426) made exactly half (5-10) of their three-pointers. USU was also 11-of-15 (.733) at the free throw line. Wichita State made 40.0 percent (22-55) of its field goals, netting 7-of-20 (.350) from behind the arc and the Shockers were 70.0 percent (7-10) at the charity stripe. USU had five assists on its first five field goal in opening an 11-7 lead before WSU whittled back to tie it at 11-11, the game s third and final tie. Later a bucket by Durley made the scoreboard read with 11:24 to go in the half. Utah State then went on its 10-0 run while Wichita State did not make a field goal over the next 8:25. Junior guard Brian Green hit a long jumper to start the streak and Bendall hit a layup to end the spurt, giving the Aggies their largest lead of the half at before WSU s Graham Hatch hit a three-pointer from the left wing with 2:59 on the clock to halt the Shockers skein. Aggie junior guard Pooh Williams hit a runner at the halftime buzzer to give USU a lead at the break. Again WSU whittled the deficit down, cutting it to just over two minutes into the second stanza but a Jardine dunk sparked seven unanswered by USU to open a lead at the 15:42 mark, capped by a Wesley layup. The Aggie advantage swelled to its largest of the night at 16 after a Williams free throw put USU ahead, with 9:31 to play. A three-pointer by Kyles from the right wing later pulled Wichita State within at the 3:50 mark, but that would be the closest the Shockers would get as Bendall hit a baseline jumper to regain momentum and USU kept WSU at bay down the stretch for the victory. LAST MEETING AGAINST WICHITA STATE ON THE ROAD Junior forward Shaler Halimon led four Aggies in double-figures with 24 points and six rebounds as Utah State lost at Wichita State, , on Dec. 23, Senior guard Les Powell added 17 points and six rebounds for the visiting Aggies, while junior guard Fred Smith scored 14 points and junior forward Jim Smith finished with 13 points. Melvin Reed led Wichita State with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Warren Armstrong scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Utah State finished the game shooting 49.3 percent from the field (37-75) and 78.0 percent at the free throw line (32-41), while Wichita State shot a blistering 62.7 percent overall (47-75) and 72.5 percent at the line (29-40). During his streak of three-straight double-figure scoring games, Grim had 11 points against Denver and Idaho State, to go along with a career-high 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while playing a career-high 42 minutes at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi for his first-ever double-double. Overall, Grim has scored in double-figures four times this year as he had 19 points at Weber State. AGGIE RESERVES HAVE COMING OUT PARTY AGAINST SOUTHERN UTAH After recording a combined 15 points and 17 rebounds in its first two games of the season, Utah State s bench had a breakout game against Southern Utah as four Aggie reserves combined for 31 points and 21 rebounds including 13 boards on the offensive end. Junior forward Kyisean Reed and freshman guard Steven Thornton each had 13 points and five boards, while freshman center Jordan Stone accounted for five points and five rebounds, and freshman redshirt forward Ben Clifford added six rebounds. The 31 bench points are the most for an Aggie team since scoring 48 against Montana Western last year, while its 21 rebounds are the most since grabbing 23 against Troy last year. UTAH STATE FINDS SHOOTING TOUCH AGAINST IDAHO STATE Utah State had its best offensive game of the season at Idaho State as it shot a season-high 57.8 percent from the field (26-45) and 68.4 percent from three-point range (13-19). For USU, it was its best shooting performance from the field since it shot 62.0 percent (31-50) at Nevada on Jan. 8, 2011, and its best shooting performance from three-point range since it shot 68.8 percent (11-16) against Hawai i on Jan. 11, Entering its game against ISU, Utah State was shooting just 42.4 percent from the field (89-210) and just 31.9 percent from three-point range (15-47). PANE NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior point guard Brockeith Pane was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Nov. 14 after leading Utah State to a season-opening home win against Brigham Young. It is the first time in his career that Pane has been named WAC Player of the Week. Against the Cougars, Pane scored a game-high 21 points as he was 6-of-10 from the field, 1-of-3 from three-point range and 8-for-8 at the free throw line for his 23rd career double-figure scoring game and fourth-career 20-point outing. That No. 25 national ranking for Utah State marks the first time it has been ranked at the end of a season since the USU team finished the year ranked No. 17 in the final United Press Coaches Poll. Overall, it is just the eighth time in school history that an Aggie team has been nationally ranked at the end of the year joining the 1960 (7th), 1962 (19th), 1964 (15th), 1967 (14th), 1970 (17th), 1975 (13th) and 1978 teams (17th). Utah State entered the 2011 NCAA Tournament ranked No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 19 in the Associated Press Poll. The Associated Press does not produce an end-of-season poll. Utah State s No. 17 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll is the highest-ever ranking for Utah State in that poll which expanded from 20 to 25 teams prior to the season. USU was also ranked 17th in coaches poll earlier in the year and during the season. USU s No. 19 ranking in the AP poll is the highest since the season was also ranked No. 19. Overall, it is the second time in the last three years and the third time in the past eight seasons that Utah State has been ranked in both polls. UTAH STATE ONE OF FIVE TEAMS TO WIN FOUR-STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLES Utah State is one of five teams in the nation to win at least four-straight regular season conference championships. Gonzaga has the longest active streak as it has won 11 straight West Coast Conference titles, while Kansas is second with seven straight Big 12 titles. Butler (Horizon) and Xavier (Atlantic 10) are tied for third as each school has won five-straight league championships, while Utah State (WAC) has won four-straight league titles. UTAH STATE PICKED FIRST BY MEDIA, THIRD BY COACHES IN PRESEASON POLLS After winning four-straight regular season Western Athletic Conference Championships and two WAC Tournament titles in the past three years, Utah State s men s basketball team is picked to finish first in the conference once again during the season according to league s media, while the coaches have tabbed the Aggies third in the WAC s preseason polls. Nevada is the coaches pick to win the WAC this year after receiving five first-place votes and 46 points, while New Mexico State is slated to finish second after garnering 41 points, but no first-place votes. Utah State received three first-place votes and 38 points and was picked to finish third, followed by Hawai i (32), Idaho (24), Fresno State (18), San Jose State (14) and Louisiana Tech (11). In the media poll, Utah State garnered 13 first-place votes and 174 points, while Nevada was second with 162 points and five first-place votes. New Mexico State, who received 150 points and three first-place votes was picked third, while Hawai i received 126 points and three first-place votes and was picked to finish fourth. Idaho was picked fifth (89), followed by San Jose State (66), Fresno State (59) and Louisiana Tech (38). PANE NAMED WAC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY MEDIA Senior guard Brockeith Pane was named the WAC s Preseason Player of the Year by the media and a first-team all-league selection by both the media and coaches heading into the season. Overall, Utah State has had the WAC s Player of the Year three times in the last four years in Jaycee Carroll (2008), Gary Wilkinson (2009) and Tai Wesley (2011). Pane earned first-team all-wac honors and was named to the league s all-newcomer team as a junior, along with being voted the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 WAC Tournament. 9 HEAD COACH STEW MORRILL In his 26th season as a collegiate head coach and 14th year at Utah State, Stew Morrill has taken the Aggie Basketball program to unprecedented heights leading it to an incredible (.754) record, including a (.773) conference mark in the Big West and WAC. Morrill became the winningest coach in school history on Jan. 17, 2008 in the Aggies win against Boise State, passing E. Lowell Romney ( ) who won 225 games in 22 seasons. In his first 13 years at USU, Morrill has guided the Aggies to 12 straight 23-win seasons and 12 straight postseason appearances (NCAA-8, NIT-4), both of which are school records. Morrill has also led Utah State to the fourth-best winning percentage in the nation during the last 13 years at 76.9 percent with an overall record of Against conference opponents, Utah State has a (.774) record with seven regular season league championships and six tournament titles during that time, including appearances in its league s tournament championship game 10 times in the last 12 years. Overall, Morrill has coached 14 first-team all-league players at Utah State who have won the award a total of 20 times. Morrill has also taken full advantage of the home court at USU, the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. In Morrill s first 14 years, USU is an amazing (.933) at home, which includes a (.926) record in league play. As for Morrill, he has won 20 or more games on 16 different occasions during his career, and he has won at least 17 games 21 times. 11 JARDINE NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK ONCE LAST SEASON Senior forward Brady Jardine was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 29, 2010 after leading Utah State to a pair of home wins against Utah (79-62) and Northeastern (56-54). Against the Utes, he posted his second-ever doubledouble with a career-high 20 points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds in a career-high 31 minutes. Jardine was 6-of-7 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line in the game. Against the Huskies, Jardine posted another double-double with 15 points and a career-high tying 13 boards as he was 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-8 at the free throw line. He also tied his career-high with three blocks and played a careerhigh 34 minutes in the game. For the week, Jardine averaged 17.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 64.7 percent from the field (11-17) and 72.2 percent at the free throw line (13-18). JARDINE NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM Utah State men s basketball player Brady Jardine was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team last season. Jardine was one of just three players from the Western Athletic Conference to earn academic all-district honors during the season joining teammate Tyler Newbold and Nedeljko Golubovic of Fresno State. The Aggie duo were also the only players from the state of Utah recognized. Along with being academic all-district, Jardine has also earned academic all-wac honors three times in his career. PANE NAMED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF WAC TOURNAMENT Senior guard Brockeith Pane was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament as he had 16 points and three rebounds against San Jose State in the semifinals and 19 points, four assists and three rebounds in the championship game against Boise State. For the tournament, Pane averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while shooting 42.9 percent from the field (9-21) and was a perfect 17-for-17 at the free throw line. UTAH STATE HAS WAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR THIRD TIME IN LAST FOUR YEARS With senior forward Tai Wesley being named the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Utah State has now had three of the last four players of the year in the conference as Jaycee Carroll won the award in 2008 and Gary Wilkinson won it in Utah has the most WAC Players of the Year with seven, followed by Nevada with five and BYU with four.
