Coming off an impressive opening round victory over 15th-seeded Hampton, the second-seeded and ninth-ranked Duke women s basketball team (28-5) will host 10th-seeded Oregon (21-13) Monday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m., in the NCAA Tournament second round in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 with Clay Matvick (PXP) and Christy Winters-Scott (Color) calling the action. Monday s contest will also be carried on the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network on com with Chris Edwards on the air beginning at 6:15 p.m. It will be aired live on 620 AM, 99.3 FM, 96.5 FM, TuneIn Radio app and The winner of the Duke/Oregon game will advance to face the winner of the No. 3 seed Maryland vs. No. 6 seed West Virginia game in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Bridgeport, Conn. The contest will take place Saturday, March 25. The Blue Devils are a No. 1 or 2 seed for the 15th time in the last 17 years they have participated in the NCAA Tournament and have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in fi ve out of the last seven years. Duke has won 21 out of the last 22 home NCAA Tournament games. The Blue Devils hold a 23-game winning streak in NCAA Tournament fi rst round games, while Joanne P. McCallie has led her teams to 13-straight opening round tournament wins. The 23-game streak is the longest in the ACC (Florida State, 13). The Blue Devils own an 87-game winning streak versus home unranked non-conference foes. Duke also features a 17-0 record at home this season, including wins over six ranked opponents. A Blue Devil win on Monday would secure only the fi fth undefeated home season in school history. The Blue Devils have totaled a 4-0 record all-time against No. 10 seeds and won 14 in a row at home in NCAA play versus seeds 10 or higher. Duke has won 11 out of the last 12 contests. The Series with Oregon... Duke and Oregon will meet for the fi rst time in school history. A Look at Oregon... Oregon advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round after totaling a win over seventh-seeded Temple. The Ducks own a overall record and have won three out of their last four games. Ruthy Hebard (14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds), Sabrina Ionescu (14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds) and Lexi Bando (10.3 points, 68 treys) have paced Oregon on the season. Duke Versus the Pac The Blue Devils have totaled a 14-8 overall record against teams from the Pac-12 Conference -- Arizona State (1-0), California (2-1), Colorado (0-1), USC (6-0), Stanford (2-3), UCLA (2-1), Utah (1-0) and Washington (0-2). Coach P owns a 12-5 mark against teams from the Pac-12. The Basics...Duke is making its 23rd overall trip to the NCAA Tournament, after snapping a 21- year streak of dancing a year ago. The Blue Devils have been seeded No. 2 for the eighth time in school history and the sixth time under head coach Joanne P. McCallie. Duke now owns an all-time record of in NCAA Tournament play and is in all postseason action. The 56 victories over Duke s history ranks fi fth on the NCAA list. The Blue Devils have hosted NCAA Tournament games 14 times out of 23 appearances. Prior to this season, Duke previously hosted fi rst and second round games in Cameron from 1987, 1996, , 2004, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and Overall, Duke owns a 24-2 record in NCAA Tournament action in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The History...Each time Duke has been in the NCAA Tournament, it has won at least one game. The Blue Devils have advanced to a regional in 16 out of the last 18 years, including fi ve out of the last six years. Duke had reached at least the Sweet 16 in 11 consecutive years prior to a loss to Michigan State in in the second round. Duke has made it to the Elite Eight in 11 of the last 19 years. Duke also advanced to the Final Four in 2002 and 2003 and the National Championship game in 1999 and The Blue Devils own a record in their last 63 NCAA Tournament games. In regional play, Duke ranks seventh with 16 regional appearances -- Tennessee (34), UConn (24), Stanford (23), Georgia (20), Louisiana Tech (20), North Carolina (17), Duke (16), LSU (14), Notre Dame (14) and Vanderbilt (14). The Coach...Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie is making her 20th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, while producing a record. While at Maine, she totaled a 1-6 record that included an upset victory over seventh-seeded Stanford (60-58) in Her Maine squad was seeded 10th and then fell to Old Dominion on its home court, 72-62, in the second round. During her time at Michigan State, McCallie guided the Spartans to a 9-5 mark. She led MSU to fi ve straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won at least one game in four consecutive years. In 2005, McCallie s squad had an incredible run through the tournament, knocking off Alcorn State, USC, 18th-ranked Vanderbilt, top-ranked Stanford and third-ranked Tennessee before falling to fi fth-ranked Baylor in the national championship game. McCallie was awarded National Coach of the Year for her efforts. At Duke, McCallie owns a 19-8 record in the tournament. She has won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament in 12 consecutive years. As a player, McCallie led Northwestern to the 1987 NCAA Tournament her senior year. The Wildcats traveled to Louisiana Tech and lost, 82-60, in the fi rst round. The Seedings...In the last 22 seasons, Duke has not been lower than a No. 5 seed and has been a No. 1 seed seven times. The Blue Devils have been seeded no lower than fourth since Duke s seven No. 1 seeds rank as the tied for fi fth-most in NCAA Tournament history. Leading the list is Tennessee (22), followed by Connecticut (20), Louisiana Tech (10), Stanford (10), Notre Dame (7) and Duke (7). Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes... With three points against Oregon, Lexie Brown will become the eighth Blue Devil to score 600 or more points in a season. In four career postseason games, Leaonna Odom has averaged 12.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. She has hit 85.0 percent of her fi eld goals (17-of-20) and 14-of-16 free throws (87.5). Prior to collecting 26 points against Hampton in the fi rst round, Rebecca Greenwell had scored 26 points in the last three games combined. Senior Oderah Chidom moved into a tie for seventh on Duke s career blocked shots list with 151. Lexie Brown became just the fourth Blue Devil to collect 200 made fi eld goals and has over 100 assists in school history. The other Duke players that have accomplished this feat are Jasmine Thomas ( ), Alana Beard ( , , ) and Monique Currie ( ). The Blue Devils are holding opponents to 25.9 percent shooting from behind the arc, which ranks second nationally only to St. John s (NY) with a 24.2 percentage. Duke s eight-win turnaround from the season (20-12) to the season (28-5) is the biggest turnaround in Duke history since the 10-win turnaround from (1-19) to (11-11). The Blue Devils are one of only eight teams that have gone from being unranked in the preseason Associated Press poll to the top nine in the fi nal poll -- Arizona State, Florida State, West Virginia, DePaul, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Houston. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils were No. 8 nationally, while boasting seven wins against top 50 teams in RPI. Lexie Brown owns 597 points on the season, which ranks tied eighth on Duke s single season charts. She needs six more to move into a tie with Tricia Liston (603). Lexie Brown has averaged 19.8 points, 4.8 assists, 3.1 steals and 4.1 rebounds the last eight games. She has hit 52.0 percent from the fi eld and 42.1 percent from long range. 4 Lexie Brown had her 16-game streak of hitting a three-pointer come to an end against Hampton as she attempted only one trey. Rebecca Greenwell has drained a trey in 16 straight contests. Lexie Brown owns 15 games with 20+ points on the season, which ranks seventh on Duke s single season charts. The Blue Devils went from fi nishing tied seventh in the ACC last season to tied second in Duke s jump of fi ve places in the ACC standings is tied for the second largest turnaround and tied for the largest turnaround for a team that ended the season in the top three of the ACC. With its victory at UNC, Duke collected 25 wins for the 18th time in school history and the eighth time under Coach P. Only Duke alumna Tricia Liston has made at least 62 three-point baskets while shooting at least 40.0 percent from downtown in a season. Duke has two players - Rebecca Greenwell (83 made threes, 41.1 percent and Lexie Brown (71 made threes, 40.3 percent) who are accomplishing it this season. This is the fi rst time in school history Duke has started a season unranked and then moved into the top 10 of the national rankings. In ACC games, Lexie Brown was responsible for percent of Duke s offense. Of Duke s 419 made baskets in 16 ACC games, Brown had a hand in 168 of those, with made 107 made baskets and 61 assists. Of Duke s 80 made threes in ACC contests, Brown made 36 of those (45.0 percent). For the season, Oderah Chidom and Kendall Cooper have combined to block 114 shots. Duke s opponents, collectively, have only blocked 84 shots. Rebecca Greenwell is currently on pace to become the fi rst Duke player to average 16+ points/ game, 6+ rebounds/game and 2.4+ three pointers/ game. The Blue Devil defense is one of the best in the nation and has only allowed fi ve teams to hit above 40.0 percent from the fi eld -- Old Dominion (47.1), South Carolina (42.1), Florida State (45.8), North Carolina (42.9) and Notre Dame (51.7). Duke currently boasts two scorers averaging over 16.0 points a contest -- Lexie Brown (18.1) and Rebecca Greenwell (16.7). In the NCAA Tournament fi rst round, freshman Leaonna Odom broke out with a career-high 23 points and six rebounds in 33 minutes played. She became just the eighth Blue Devil rookie to collect 20 or more points in an NCAA Tournament contest. Odom is also the fourth Duke freshman to score 20 or more points in her fi rst NCAA Tournament contest - Rometra Craig (2002), Rebecca Greenwell (2015) and Alana Beard (2001). The 23 points is also the most by a Duke freshman in their fi rst NCAA Tournament game. Over the last six games, Odom has averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals over the last six games. She has scored 10+ points in four of those contests. Tough Week for Blue Devil Knees... After going all season without any knee injuries, the Blue Devils had two of them this week. Redshirt sophomore Lyneé Belton suffered a torn meniscus in her right knee in practice on Monday, March 13. Sophomore Kyra Lambert had a left knee injury in the second quarter against Hampton and did not return. She will have a MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Impressive First Round Win... The Duke defense held Hampton to a seasonlow 31 points and 18.2 percent shooting on its way to advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round with a win. The Blue Devils hit 61.8 percent shooting, forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded the Lady Pirates, Rebecca Greenwell registered her fi fth double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Leaonna Odom added a career-high 23 points on 8-of-9 fi eld goals. Duke went on to hit 22-of-25 free throws and dished 23 assists. Home Win Streak... The Blue Devils own a 17-0 record at home this season and with a win Monday against Oregon would notch their fi fth undefeated season in school history in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke has only posted four undefeated home seasons in school history in Cameron Indoor Stadium (16-0), (17-0), (14-0), (14-0).
