The second-ranked Duke women s basketball team (5-0) will head tropical for the Thanksgiving holiday as the Blue Devils will travel to St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands for three contests in the Paradise Jam. Duke will take on Xavier (Nov. 28), Central Michigan (Nov. 29) and Kansas (Nov. 30) at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports & Fitness Center. All three contests will be aired live online at It will also be carried live on the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network on WDNC-AM 620 with Steve Barnes (PXP) and Morgan Patrick (Color) on the air. The contest with Kansas on Nov. 30 will most likely be aired live online at www. GoDuke.com due to the confl ict with Duke football. Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes... Duke has registered a 17-2 record during the last eight years at tropical destinations (Cancun in 2000, 2006, 2009, Bahamas in 1999, 2004, 2011, St. Thomas in 2002 and 2007). The only losses were to Connecticut in 2007 and Notre Dame in Elizabeth Williams went off for a season-high 23 points at Marquette to go along with four blocks, three steals, two rebounds and one assist in a season-high 37 minutes. Duke will return to the Paradise Jam for the third time in school history and the fi rst since Overall, the Blue Devils have posted a 5-1 mark in two appearances. In 2007, Duke collected wins against 22nd-ranked Purdue (53-41) and Temple (64-53), before suffering a loss to second-ranked Connecticut. In 2002, the Blue Devils came away with the St. John Division title. Duke totaled victories over Hampton (71-34), Old Dominion (65-52) and 17th-ranked Arkansas (74-72, OT). Tricia Liston needs 12 more three-pointers made to move into a tie for 24th on the ACC career treys made list. Her 45.5 three-point percentage is the highest in league history. She has hit at least one three-pointer in 13 straight contests. Senior Haley Peters went down with a right knee injury in the fi rst half against Vanderbilt, but returned in the second half. She missed the game at Marquette and is listed as day-to-day. Peters had competed in 109 straight games since arriving at Duke and had started 75 consecutive contests. Alexis Jones is averaging 15.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.8 steals and 2.5 rebounds the last four games. During that span she is hitting 48.9 percent from the fi eld and 44.4 percent from downtown (8-of-18). The Blue Devils blocked a season-high 10 shots against Alabama. Five different players notched at least one block. Over the last four contests, Duke has hit 53.0 percent of its fi eld goals and 45.1 percent from downtown. The Blue Devils have also averaged 23.5 assists per game. The Duke senior class has scored 264 out of the 451 points scored so far through two contests. That equals to 58.5 percent. All fi ve Blue Devil starters scored double-fi gures against USC Upstate and Vanderbilt. Duke hit 40.5 percent from three-point land last year, which led the nation and was the second-highest output in school history. The Blue Devils return all fi ve starters, 93.7 percent of their scoring and the top seven scorers from a year ago. For only the second time in school history, Duke features fi ve players standing 6-3 or taller ( ). Duke s nine student-athletes that are 6-0 or taller also ties for the most in Blue Devil history ( , , ). The Blue Devils have notched a 30-3 record in the month of November the last fi ve years. Shatyra Hawkes (21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds), Ashley Wanninger (14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds) and Jenna Crittendon (10.3 points, 7.5 rebounds) currently lead the squad on the year. Duke Versus the Big East... Duke owns an all-time record of 24-5 against teams from the Big East Conference -- DePaul (2-1), Georgetown (4-0), Marquette (4-0), Providence (3-1), Seton Hall (4-2), St. John s (3-0), Villanova (1-0) and Xavier (3-1). Duke owns an all-time record of 3-0 against teams from the Mid-American Conference -- Bowling Green (1-0), Miami of Ohio (1-0) and Ohio (1-0). Coach P owns a 9-7 overall record against teams from the Mid-American Conference, including a 2-1 mark versus Central Michigan. A Look at Kansas... Kansas enters the Paradise Jam with a 3-1 overall record under the direction of Bonnie Hendrickson. So far on the year Chelsea Gardner (19.3 points, 9.5 rebounds) and Asia Boyd (16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds) have led the Jayhawks. All three wins on the year have come at home and the lone loss came at the hands of Minnesota on the road, Duke Versus the Big Duke owns an all-time record of 16-3 against teams from the Big 12 Conference -- Baylor (0-1), Iowa State (2-0), Kansas State (1-0), Oklahoma (0-1), Oklahoma State (4-0), TCU (2-0), Texas (3-1), Texas Tech (2-0) and West Virginia (2-0). 3 Duke Basketball Kansas. What Happened in Last Meeting?... Chelsea Gray provided what was needed for the Duke offense. Gray had a then season-high 22 points and added 10 assists and No. 4 Duke routed Xavier on Nov. 25, Gray led a Duke offense that relied on an effective inside-out play and quick ball movement to string together its most effi cient offensive performance of the season. Duke shot a season-high 59 percent, including 65.5 percent during a 44-point fi rst half against the smaller Xavier lineup. Duke outscored the Musketeers 19-2 and held them scoreless for almost fi ve minutes in the fi rst half. Four Blue Devils fi nished with double-digit scoring totals. Freshman Alexis Jones had a breakout game, scoring a career-high 14 points and held Xavier leading scorer Shatyra Hawkes to eight points. Elizabeth Williams added 16 and Haley Peters added 13 points. Ashley Wanninger led the Musketeers with 15 points. The Musketeers played a physical game, drawing 18 Duke fouls and causing Peters to foul out late in the game. Duke outrebounded Xavier Duke had four offensive rebounds to Xavier s 12. Dynamite Backcourt... Duke features one of the best backcourt combinations with senior Chelsea Gray and sophomore Alexis Jones. The duo are averaging a combined 24.7 points, 13.2 assists, 9.2 rebounds and 7.0 steals. They have hit 13-of-34 treys for a 38.2 percentage. Gray is a triple-double waiting to happen averaging 13.2 points, 9.4 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 steals. Jones averages 13.2 points, 3.8 assists, 3.4 steals and 3.2 rebounds. The two guards are a couple of the most dynamic passers in the game. In the NCAA Stats... The fi rst NCAA stats were released on Monday and the Blue Devils rank nationally in many different categories. Some of the highest categories include scoring offense (9th, 90.2), fi eld goal percentage (3rd, 50.9), three-point fi eld goal percentage (7th, 42.4) and steals (16th, 13.4). In the individual rankings, Chelsea Gray ranks third in assists (9.4) and 16th in steals (3.6); Tricia Liston is 15th in three-point fi eld goals per game (3.4) and 26th in three-point fi eld goal percentage (53.1); Elizabeth Williams is 21st in blocks (2.8) and Alexis Jones is 21st in steals (3.4). Liston Leading Duke in Scoring... Tricia Liston has opened the season on fi re averaging 17.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.8 steals. She is hitting 53.1 percent from downtown and 56.0 percent from the fi eld. Liston recently tied a career high with six treys on eight attempts against Vanderbilt. She has drained three or more treys in four straight contests, hitting 16-of-29 attempts. At Marquette, she moved into third place on Duke s all-time treys made list with 182, passing Jasmine Thomas (180). She continues to hold the top spot on the Blue Devil and ACC three-point fi eld goal percentage list. So far this season, Duke has closed games very strong averaging 49.0 points in the second half. Tricia Liston is averaging 11.0 of her 17.2 points per game during the second half. She has hit 19-of-31 fi eld goals (61.3%) and 11-of-18 treys (61.1%) from three-point land. Off to Fast Start... Duke seniors Tricia Liston and Chelsea Gray are off to fast starts this season in terms of three-point shooting and assists, respectively. Liston has 17 three-pointers through fi ve games, while Gray has dished 47 assists in those contests. Both marks are the most for any Blue Devil in school history over the fi rst fi ve games to start the season. What s Next... When the Blue Devils return from the trip to St. Thomas, Duke will feature a very challenging slate. Duke will go up against three straight ranked opponents -- Purdue (18), Oklahoma (10) and Connecticut (1). The Blue Devils will then take on Albany, who advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament before traveling to seventh-ranked Kentucky. Chidom Nets Career Highs... With Haley Peters on the bench at Marquette, freshman Oderah Chidom played in a career-high 24 minutes, tied a career high with nine points, had fi ve rebounds, a career-high two blocks and two assists. She hit all four of her fi eld Duke vs. Xavier Series Duke and Xavier will meet for the fi fth time in school history. The Blue Devils feature a 3-1 lead in the overall series. 4 Duke Basketball Gray Accumulating Impressive Stats... Streaks - Part II Chelsea Gray has totaled 1,092 points, 437 rebounds, 470 assists and 266 steals over her four- year career. If Gray reaches 500 assists, 500 rebounds and 300 steals, she will become the second Blue Devil in school history to reach the milestone. Alana Beard collected 2,687 points, 789 rebounds, 509 assists and 404 steals over her career at Duke. High-Scoring Offense... Duke currently is averaging 90.2 points, which ranks second in the ACC and ninth nationally. The Blue Devils feature fi ve double-fi gure scorers -- Tricia Liston (17.2), Elizabeth Williams (14.2), Chelsea Gray (13.2), Alexis Jones (13.2) and Haley Peters (11.5). From the fi eld, Duke is hitting 50.9 percent of its fi eld goals and 42.4 percent from downtown. Rebounding Machine... In the win over USC Upstate, senior Haley Peters was all over the glass pulling down a career-high 20 rebounds. The 20 boards were the third-highest single game total in school history matching Alana Beard s mark of 20 from the ACC Tournament on March 10, Peters 32 rebounds in the last two contests is the most since Krystal Thomas pulled down 32 boards in back-to-back games in the campaign. Peters moved into a 18th on Duke s all-time rebounding list with 630 boards. She needs 107 more rebounds to edge into a tie for 10th in the Blue Devil career charts. She has now totaled 13 career double-doubles and 17 contests with 10 or more rebounds, after leading Duke in rebounding a year ago. Duke Leads Naismith List... Returning for her senior season after having her junior campaign cut short due to a knee injury, senior Chelsea Gray has come out playing like her two-time All-America self. On the season, Gray is averaging 13.2 points, 9.4 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 steals. Over the last two contests, Gray has just missed her third career triple-double. Versus Vanderbilt she posted 14 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds, while following that up with 12 points, 13 assists, nine rebounds at Marquette. Gray averaged 13.0 points, 12.5 assists, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals, which earned her second ACC Player of the Week selection on Monday. She has been named ACC Player of the Week a total of fi ve times over her career. She now has nine career double-digit assist games of her career. Coach P Approaching Milestone... Coach P owns a career record of over her 22 years as a head coach. She needs only six wins to reach the 500-win mark. McCallie s 174 wins over her fi rst six years at Duke was the third-most by a coach in their fi rst six years at a school. She ranks only behind Joe Foley (Arkansas Tech - 188) and Leon Barmore (Louisiana Tech - 179). The Standout Senior Class... Duke s senior class of Tricia Liston, Haley Peters, Chelsea Gray, Chloe Wells and Richa Jackson came into Duke as the No. 1 ranked recruiting class and has not disappointed leading Duke to three ACC regular season crowns, two ACC Tournament titles, three straight NCAA Elite Eight appearances and a record of The class owns an 88.1 winning percentage, which ranks as the sixth-best in school history. The fi ve Blue Devils have accounted for over 4,000 points, which includes three 1,000-point scorers. Henson Back in Action... After missing almost two years with a knee injury, redshirt freshman Amber Henson has played in each of the fi rst fi ve contests to open the season. The Tampa, Fla., product is averaging 10.6 minutes a game, while averaging 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 points. Henson made her fi rst collegiate start at Marquette. A three-time Parade All-America, McDonald s All-America and WBCA All-America, Henson arrived at Duke with a knee injury and had her fi rst surgery in January of She scored over 2,000 points in high school and was ranked a top-10 recruit. Block Streak... Since Elizabeth Williams stepped on the court in a Blue Devil uniform, she has blocked at least one shot in all 74 of her games. The streak is an ACC record and is the longest current ledger in the nation. She became the fi rst ACC player to notch 200 blocks in her fi rst two years. Williams owns 237 in only 74 games. Dating back to high school, Williams has blocked a shot in 93 straight games as she closed her H.S. career with blocks in 19 consecutive contests. Gray Moving Up Assist List... Five games into the campaign, senior Chelsea Gray has already moved up four spots on Duke s all-time assist list. She currently ranks fi fth with 470 dishes and needs 26 more to move into a tie for fourth. The school record is 579 by Lindsey Harding. Gray needs 109 assists to move into a tie with Harding. With 25 regular season games remaining, she would need to average 4.4 assists a game to tie the record. Jones Looks to Continue Where Left Off... After Chelsea Gray went down with a knee injury in February last season, Alexis Jones became one of the best players in the nation averaging 13.8 points, 6.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds. She hit 11-of-30 treys during that stretch. Jones nearly registered a triple-double in her fi rst career NCAA Tournament game against Hampton with 11 points, a career-high 10 assists and eight rebounds. It marked her second career double-double. She also totaled 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the regional semifi nal against Nebraska. In the ACC Tournament, Jones was named MVP after averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals. She hit 60.0 percent of her fi eld goals and 66.7 percent from downtown. Duke seniors Chelsea Gray and Haley Peters have been selected two of 30 preseason candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
