The Duke women s basketball team (8-1) will open a fi ve-game homestand Sunday, Dec. 4 as the Blue Devils welcome third-ranked South Carolina (6-0) at 2 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Sunday s contest will be aired live on ACC Network Extra with Ryan Craig (PXP) and Debbie Taylor (Color) calling the action. It will also be carried on the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network on with Chris Edwards on the air beginning at 1:45 p.m. It will be aired live on 620 AM, 99.3 FM, 96.5 FM, TuneIn Radio app and Duke opens a fi ve-game homestand versus the Gamecocks and won t have to travel on the road until the year of What is Next?... The Blue Devils will host Elon Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Head coach Joanne P. McCallie will have to face her daughter, Maddie, who is a redshirt senior with Elon. Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes... Duke redshirt junior Lexie Brown has known South Carolina s Kaela Davis since kindergarten. They played on the same Georgia Ice AAU squad from the eighth through 11th grade. Duke s Summer McKeehan, was the athletic trainer for the USA Basketball Women s U19 World Championship over the summer of South Carolina s Dawn Staley along with A Ja Wilson were on the team. The Blue Devils look to snap an eight-game losing streak to ranked opponents dating back to the campaign. Duke redshirt junior Lexie Brown is closing in on 1,000 points as she is only 19 away. She totaled 825 points at Maryland and has 156 this season with the Blue Devils. Brown has appeared in 79 career games. Two of the top offensive teams in the nation will hit the hardwood Sunday as Duke ranks 10th (86.2) and South Carolina 12th (85.8) in scoring offense. Duke currently leads the ACC in seven categories -- scoring offense, scoring margin, fi eld goal percentage, fi eld goal percentage defense, assists, steals and offensive rebound percentage. Kendall Cooper is averaging 10.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals over the last two games. In those contests, she has hit 53.3 percent from the fi eld. Over the last three games, Oderah Chidom has hit 84.2 percent from the fi eld draining 16-of-19 fi eld goals. Rebecca Greenwell is one of only two players in the ACC to rank in the top fi ve in scoring (3) and top 15 in rebounding (T15) along with Stephanie Watts of UNC. Senior Oderah Chidom ranks second in the ACC with a 63.3 fi eld goal percentage. Lexie Brown has hit 20 straight free throws entering Sunday s contest. The 32 three-pointers made by Rebecca Greenwell currently ranks second nationally with the next closest being North Carolina s Stephanie Watts (33). The top three players in the nation are all from the ACC (Asia Durr of Louisville, 31). 3 Duke Basketball Lambert Dishing the Rock... Sophomore Kyra Lambert ranks fi fth in the ACC with a 4.9 assists per game average. Over the last fi ve games, she has dished 5.5 per contest. This includes a career-high eight versus Old Dominion. Lambert also has a assist/turnover ratio, which ranks 49th nationally (2.59). She is also hitting 52.9 percent from three-point land to rank third in the league. Odom Coming on Strong... Freshman forward Leaonna Odom is getting better and better each collegiate game she plays. Over the last three contests, Odom has averaged 11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. She totaled her fi rst collegiate double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Pepperdine. She pulled down nine offensive rebounds, which is the second-most by a Duke rookie and tied for fourth most in a single game in school history. Odom is hitting 54.4 percent of her fi eld goals. Lexie Brown registered a very impressive performance against Old Dominion with a career-high 32 points as she hit 10-of-13 fi eld goals, 4-of-7 treys and 8-of-8 free throws. She also swiped fi ve steals. Brown s 32 points was tied for the 15th most in a single game in Duke history. Her previous career high was 31 points during her time at Maryland. Three-Point Record... Redshirt junior Rebecca Greenwell broke the Duke single game record for most three-pointers made with eight at Pepperdine, while also attempting a Blue Devil record 16 treys. The mark was previously held by Nicole Erickson and Jessica Foley with seven. Greenwell has drained fi ve or more treys three times this season and is hitting 42.7 percent from downtown, which ranks 11th in the ACC. Greenwell now owns the Duke record for threepointers made in a game as well as the national high school mark of 17. 1,000-Point Club... Redshirt junior Rebecca Greenwell joined the 1,000-point club Nov. 15 as she registered a careerhigh 30-points. On her fi fth three-pointer, Greenwell went past the 1,000-point mark in the fourth quarter. She became the 32nd player in Blue Devil history to reach the milestone. Greenwell became the fourth-quickest Duke player to reach 1,000 points in only 67 games. Junior Erin Mathias started each of the fi rst fi ve games of the season, after starting just three of her fi rst 57 contests. Sophomore Kyra Lambert has scored doubledigits in nine collegiate games and fi ve of those have come over her last 12 games. Lambert has hit 15-of-28 from three-point land over that 12-game stretch. The guard has opened the season scoring double-digits in three of the nine games and is averaging 9.6 points. She had a career-high 17 points versus Grand Canyon as she hit 6-of-10 fi eld goals. Her back-to-back double-fi gure scoring games against Liberty and Penn was a fi rst for her short career. Brown Looking Good in Duke Uniform... After redshirting the campaign, junior Lexie Brown has nine games under her belt as a Blue Devil. She is now averaging 17.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.1 steals. In the ACC stats, Brown is tied for second with four games of 20+ points. She also ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring, T12th in assists, fourth in steals and sixth in free throw percentage (86.5). Brown dished a career-high 12 assists at Pepperdine, which marked her fi rst collegiate double-double to go along with 14 points. 4 In two years at Maryland, Brown drained 120 three-pointers, while scoring 825 points, dishing 310 assists and swiping 127 steals. She started 66-of-70 contests and was a Associated Press All- America. Brown is a preseason ACC Newcomer Watch list candidate as well as candidate for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the top point guard in the nation and Naismith Watch List selection for National Player of the Year. Three-Point Tandem... The tandem of Rebecca Greenwell and Lexie Brown could be the most prolifi c three-point duo not only in the ACC, but nationally in Both have combined to hit 306 three-pointers over their career. In the fi rst nine games, they have combined to hit 50 three-pointers. The top three-point shooting duo in school history was Tricia Liston and Alexis Jones in with a combined 127 treys. Greenwell From Downtown... Rebecca Greenwell totaled 145 three-pointers made as a freshman and sophomore to become the fi rst Duke player to notch over 120 treys as an underclassman (Abby Waner had previous high with 118). Adding in her 32 treys from the season, Greenwell now owns 177 three-pointers over her career to move into fi fth on Duke s all-time made three-pointers list. She needs three to move into a tie for fourth. Chidom Looks to Build off Strong End of Year... After closing her junior season in a strong way, senior Oderah Chidom looks to build off that success and have a strong fi nal season at Duke. Chidom averaged 14.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.5 assists over the fi nal eight contests. She registered a career-high 20 points in back-to-back games against North Carolina and Virginia, while also pulling down nine rebounds. In those two games, she hit a combined 16-of-28 fi eld goals and swatted seven shots. 6 Duke Basketball Recapping the Exhibition Contest... Duke cruised to a victory over Charleston Sunday, Nov. 6 as Rebecca Greenwell led all scorers with 27 points and seven assists. Seven different Blue Devils scored double-digits as Duke hit 59.8 percent from the fi eld. Senior Oderah Chidom (18 points, 7 boards), freshman Leaonna Odom (16 points, 8 rebounds) and sophomore Kyra Lambert (10 points, 9 boards, 5 rebounds) also had solid outings. Duke held an advantage in the paint and scored 62 points off 40 Golden Eagle turnovers. Radio Show Dates Announced... The Joanne P. McCallie Radio Show will feature eight total dates for the campaign and will take place at Tobacco Road Sports Café in Durham, N.C. The show will be aired live on Buzz Sports Radio (620 AM, 96.5 FM Durham, 99.3 FM Raleigh). It will also be aired on the TuneIn App on the Blue Devils IMG Sports Network (Duke) channel. Freshman Leaonna Ducky Odom is expected to make an immediate impact with the Blue Devils, after turning in a solid senior season at Chaminade H.S. The No. 9 overall recruit in the class, Odom was a McDonald s All-America selection and competed in the Jordan Brand Classic. As a senior, she averaged 21.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.1 blocks and was named the 2016 Daily News All-Area Girls Basketball Co-Player of the Year. She started for the West Team in the McDonald s All-America game and notched 10 points in 18 minutes. Odom was given the nickname Ducky in summer school. It came from the movie Land Before Time. From Long Range... The Blue Devils continue to be one of the top three-point shooting teams over the last number of years. Duke led the nation in 2013 and 2014 for threepoint fi eld goal percentage. In 2014, the Blue Devils hit 40.7 percentage, while in 2013 Duke drained 40.5 percent from downtown. Nancy Lieberman Award Honors... Duke redshirt junior Lexie Brown has been named one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2017 Nancy Lieberman Award. Now in its 17th year, the award recognizes the top point guard in women s NCAA Division I college basketball. Candidates exhibit the fl oor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. A 5-9 guard from Suwanee, Ga., Brown transferred from Maryland after leading the Terrapins to back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances. Brown was a 2015 Associated Press Third Team All-America, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Defensive Team and Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore at Maryland. She averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, while draining 69 three-pointers in Brown sat out the campaign due to NCAA transfer rules. It marks the third time Brown has been selected a candidate as she was also named to the list as a freshman and sophomore at Maryland. The Selection Committee for the Nancy Lieberman Award is composed of top women s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. By mid-february, the watch list of 20 players for the 2017 Lieberman Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, fi ve fi nalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame s selection committee. The winner of the 2017 Lieberman Award will be announced at the NCAA Women s Final Four in Dallas, Texas. Gorecki Still on the Mend... Duke sophomore Haley Gorecki is still recovering from a hip injury that sidelined her for most of the campaign. Gorecki is progressing well and hoping to be back in practice prior to ACC action starting. She had appeared in 14 games as a rookie, while averaging 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals. Cooper Back for Senior Season... After missing the second semester of her junior season, Kendall Cooper is back for her fi nal year with the Blue Devils. A product of Carson, Calif., Cooper saw action in 11 contests averaging 3.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocks last season. Cooper has appeared in 76 career matches and blocked 67 shots in those games. Schubert to Miss Season with Torn ACL... Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced Blue Devil freshman Emily Schubert will miss the campaign, after suffering a torn ACL during practice. The 6-4 center will apply for a medical redshirt and have four years remaining. Schubert, a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., was an All-Region, All-District and All-Conference selection in her fi nal year at Elizabethton H.S. She led her high school squad to a overall record with four district, regional and sectional titles. As a senior, Schubert averaged 11.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 Duke Picked Sixth in Preseason ACC Poll... The ACC released the preseason women s basketball polls at the annual media day in Charlotte, N.C., with the Blue Devils tabbed No. 6 in a vote by the Blue Ribbon Panel and 15 league head coaches. Duke, which returns three starters off its squad that totaled a overall record a year ago, received 516 points by 54 Blue Ribbon Panel voters. Defending ACC Champion Notre Dame totaled 795 points and 44 fi rst place votes to take the top slot, while Louisville (8 fi rst place votes), Florida State (2 fi rst place votes), Syracuse, Miami, Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Clemson rounded out the preseason ledger. The Duke tandem of Alana Beard and Chelsea Gray helped lead the Los Angeles Sparks to the 2016 WNBA crown in October. Both were key components in the Sparks claiming their fi rst title since The WNBA championship for Beard and Gray were their fi rst titles as a professional. With the win, a Blue Devil alum has been a part of the last three WNBA Championship teams as Tricia Liston won in 2015 with the Minnesota Lynx and Mistie Bass won in 2014 with the Phoenix Mercury. Beard and Gray became the fourth and fi fth Duke women s basketball players to win a WNBA Championship as Karima Christmas also won in 2012 with the Indiana Fever. Duke Adds New Staff to Mix... Over the summer of 2016, Duke hired Ashleigh Beaver along with Pat Chasse to help with the women s basketball program.
