He will start today in Miami. He went 0-1 in two rehab starts with LOU (7.2ip, 5h, 2er, 0bb, 7k). In a complimentary move, OF Yorman Rodríguez was optioned back to LOU. He did not make an appearance with CIN after being recalled on 7/6. LAST TIME OUT: LOU (43-46) dropped the series opener to TOL (39-49), 5-2, at Fifth Third Field on Friday. The Bats and Mud Hens went four scoreless innings before All-Star IF Irving Falú doubled in IF Chris Dominguez and OF José Constanza for a 2-0 lead in the top of the 5 th. However, in the home half, three consecutive Mud Hens singles scored a run and cut the LOU lead in half. Former Bat IF Mike Hessman tied the game with a solo HR (12) to lead off the 6 th and TOL would take a 5-2 lead after two two-out walks gave way to a three-run HR by IF Corey Jones. RHP Keyvius Sampson (L, 1-3, 5.02) left the game after the pair of two-out walks and allowed 4er on 6h (1hr) and 3bb with 4k in 5.2ip. RHP Jose De La Torre surrendered the three-run HR by Jones, the first batter he faced, allowing both inherited runners to score. LOU failed to push another run in the game and fell 5-2. TOL RHP Thad Weber (W, 6-4, 3.77) worked 7.0ip and allowed 2er on 6h and 1bb with 2k. Righty Drew VerHagen (S, 1) kept LOU off the board for 2.0ip to close out the game and earn his first save of the season. LOUISVILLE S LOSS BY THE NUMBERS: LOU recorded 4 2b in last night s game, and LOU is now 14-7 when recording 4xbh or more LOU scored just 2r in last night s game, and is now 3-28 when failing to score more than 2r in a game LOU pitchers allowed 2hr in last night s game, and LOU is now 3-10 when allowing multiple HR in a game Last night LOU lost for just the fourth time this season when LOU batters walked as many times at they struck out. Last night LOU hitters had 4bb and 4k, and LOU is now 11-4 when walking as many times as they strikeout. DOUBLE DIPPIN : LOU is 5-5 in DHs this season. HITMAN IRIBARREN: IF Hernán Iribarren went 0-for-3 with 1bb last night, snapping his hit streak at 6g (7/3-7/10), but with the walk he extended his on-base streak to seven games. He batted.429 (9-for-21) during the 6g hit streak with 1bb, 2r, 3rbi and 1hr. After IF Eugenio Suárez was recalled by CIN on 6/10, Iribarren started at SS for 16 consecutive games (6/10-6/26) and batted.270 (17-for-63). Since IF Kristopher Negrón played his first game with LOU this season on 6/28, Iribarren has appeared in 11g (10 starts), started at SS just twice, and is batting.297 (11-for-37). Also since 6/28, Iribarren has played second base, third base, shortstop, left field and center field. ALL-STAR IRVING: IF Irving Falú went 1-for-3 with 1 2b and 2rbi in last night s game. He was selected as an IL All-Star to participate in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Omaha on 7/15. Falú is 4 th among all qualifying IL batters in AVG (.314). Along with leading LOU in batting, Falú is also tops in R (41), SB (14), 2b (14), 3b (4), OBP (.382), OPS (.798) and T-1 st in multi-hit games (23). He is also 2 nd in RBI (34) and TB (114). JUMBO COMING UP BIG: RHP Jumbo Díaz (S, 7) worked a scoreless 1.1ip with 2k (0h, 0bb) to earn his seventh save of the season on Wednesday. Since allowing 2er on 4h and 1bb with 1k in a blown save on 6/8 at COL (his first app w/lou following his option), he has allowed just 8h and 2bb (0r) in 14.0ip with 11k and 7sv. BASE ON BALESTER: RHP Collin Balester issued 1bb in 1.0ip yesterday. The walk was the first issued by Balester since making his LOU debut on 6/20 (7.0ip). Prior to last night, Balester last issued a free pass with IND on 6/1 vs. BUF and had worked 14.1 total innings without a walk since. In that game vs. BUF on 6/1, Balester issued 3bb in 2.0ip while allowing 3er on 2h. The 3bb outing capped a stretch of three straight outing with 1bb or more as he issued 5bb in 2.1ip in three consecutive appearances. BATS OFF THE BENCH: LOU did not use any substitutes un yesterday s game, but LOU substitutes as a whole this season are batting.267 (27-for-101) with 12bb, 2 2b, 6rbi and 22r. IF Jermaine Curtis (who went 1-for-4 with 1 2b as a starter yesterday) went 1-for-1 as a PH on Wednesday, and is 3-for-6 with 1bb and 2r as a PH this season. He has the most pinch hits and the second-best PH average on the team (OF Ryan LaMarre is 2-for-3 with an RBI, 2r and 1 2b as a PH). Curtis is also 7-for-14 when entering the game as a sub and leads the team in at-bats and hits as a substitute. JULY DROUGHT: LOU scored 131r in 29g in the month of June, 4.5r per game, including a 15r outburst on 6/25 at SWB and 11r on 6/26 at LHV. In 10g in July, LOU has scored just 23r, 2.3 runs per game. Meanwhile, LOU has given up 40r in 10g in July, 4r per game. LOU also recorded 10h or more 15 times and averaged 9.9h per game in June, but has recorded 10h or more just twice so far in July, and is averaging 7.6h per game this month. MAKE THEM EARN IT: LOU made 4e in Thursday s 4-0 loss, the most since making 5e in a 4-0 L vs. BUF on 6/4. LOU did not make an error in last night s game, but had made 10e in the previous 5g and has made multiple errors in 4g in July. LOU s 2e on Wednesday and 4e on Thursday led to LOU surrendering an unearned run in back-to-back games for the first time season. Before surrendering an unearned run in Wednesday s game, LOU had not allowed an unearned run since 6/28 (10g) when three unearned runs crossed the plate in an 8-3 L at LHV. LOU has made the 2 nd -most errors in the IL (77), but is T-2 nd -fewest unearned runs allowed (33). LOU is the 2 nd -best team in the IL at keeping errors from turning into unearned runs as a LOU error has led to an unearned run just 43% of the time. NOR, which has made a league-low 20e, has the league-best mark at 42% while TOL has the worst mark in the league, as 73% of TOL errors have led to an unearned run. WILD WILD WEST: LOU is vs. IL West rivals and has been outscored , and has been outhit LOU s average margin of victory over IL West teams is 2.9 runs while their average loss is by 3.7 runs. Versus the Hens: Hand has allowed just 2er over 7.2ip in 3g vs. TOL this season, striking out seven with no walks. He also owns a a 0.78whip vs. TOL.
