Louisville LHP Cody Reed went 8.0 innings, surrendering only one run on six hits with eight strikeouts in a tough no-decision. LOU s lone run came on a wild pitch from IND reliever Jorge Rondon, scoring CF Jose Peraza. The Indians won on a walk-off double by pinch-hitter Danny Ortiz in the bottom of the ninth. ACES ARE WILD: Louisville starting pitcher Cody Reed (2-0, 1.46) pitched a Bats season high eight innings, giving up one run while striking out eight and walking none. On the other side, IND starter Tyler Glasnow (2-1, 1.64) pitched seven strong innings, tossing seven scoreless frames while striking out 11 Bats hitters and walking one. Both pitchers landed in the International League top ten for ERA after their starts and earned no-decisions for their efforts. ROAD KILL: With Saturday s loss at Indianapolis, the Bats have snapped their nine game road win streak, the longest road win streak they have accomplished since LOU won 11 straight from 5/28-6/18/2006. LOU has the best road winning percentage (.750) in the International League, and are tied for the most road wins in the league with Pawtucket (nine). TOP FIVE: LHP Cody Reed moved into the top five ERA leaders in the International League after Saturday s performance. Reed s 1.46 ERA trails only Thad Weber (1.17) of Toledo, Jameson Taillon (1.19) and Chad Kuhl(1.35) of Indianapolis, and Chad Green (1.45) of Scranton Wilkes-Barre among qualified starters. Bats RHP Robert Stephenson also cracks the top ten with his 1.88 ERA. ROGERS!: LOU right-handed reliever Chad Rogers got the loss on Saturday after coming in for Cody Reed in the ninth. Rogers retired the first batter he faced, then gave up a single to Indianapolis 1B Josh Bell, before allowing the walk-off double to pinch-hitter Danny Ortiz to hand the Bats a 2-1 loss. Rogers (2-1, 0.73) had started his season off with 12 scoreless innings for the Bats before giving up the winning run in one-third of an inning of work in Saturday s game. SEVENTEEN AGAIN: Bats LF Jesse Winker and 1B Brandon Allen each drew walks on Saturday, bringing each of their walk totals to 17. That s tied for 3 rd in the International League, trailing only Durham s Richie Shaffer and Syracuse s Scott Sizemore. Winker also has six walks in the month of May, the highest mark on the team. S.O.S.: Despite the Bats 6-3 record in one-run ballgames, LOU is tied for the least number of saves in the International League. The Bats are tied with Gwinnett, Charlotte, and Toledo for the fewest saves with five apiece. RHP Steve Delabar leads the pack with three saves, with RHPs Jumbo Diaz and Drew Hayes each accounting for one. RAISING THE BAR: RHP Steve Delabar had his contract selected by the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched for the Reds on Saturday, tossing a scoreless inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. Delabar has appeared in nine games for the Bats this season, compiling a 2.19 ERA with 3 saves to go along with 11 walks and 13 strikeouts in 12.1 innings of work. Delabar last appeared in the majors with the Blue Jays in HOOVERVILLE: RHP J.J. Hoover was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday after starting 2016 with the Cincinnati Reds, but is not yet active. He appeared in 12 games with the big-league club in 2016, carrying a ERA and picking up one save in 10.2 innings of work. Hoover last appeared with LOU in 2014, pitching in four games. He also had a longer stint in 2012, pitching in 30 games while compiling a 4-1 record and 1.22 ERA. WALDROP GOING UP: On Sunday Kyle Waldrop will be recalled by Cincinnati with Scott Schebler being optioned to Louisville. This will be the second time in two seasons Waldrop will spend time on the big league roster. Last season he appeared in one game on August 2 vs. PIT, getting one at-bat and striking out. SAME STORY, DIFFERENT NARRATIVE: One day after LOU had just five at-bats with runners in scoring position, they outdid themselves on Saturday by getting just four at-bats with RISP. Unlike in Friday s win where the Bats took advantage with three hits, including a Steve Selsky grand slam, LOU came up empty on Saturday in the same situation, going 0-for-4. MR. SMITH GOES TO INDY: RHP Josh Smith (2-2, 2.48) will look to get the Bats back in the win column as probable starter for Sunday s rubber match against Indianapolis. Smith earned a tough loss in his first start vs. the Indians on 4/23, going seven innings and allowing one earned run. He gave up six hits, walked none, and struck out a season-high six. IND starter Jameson Taillon (2-0, 1.19) was even better that day, shutting out LOU in six nearly perfect innings. The Bats will get LHP Steven Brault (1-2, 3.04) this time around, who defeated LOU behind a strong nine strikeout, scoreless performance on 4/22.
