2 Welcome Chapter M to November 2018 Our motto is: Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge As the riding season is coming to a close in just a short few weeks, remember to pull maintenance on your gold wing for the long winter nap. And just before you cover her up, get your mileage and turn it in to Jim Tanner by December 30, You can him at dance678@comcast.net We had 21 members attend the Monthly Gathering. For those who couldn t attend, we missed you and hope everything is well. Always remember; it s all of you, the members, who make up this Chapter and its success. You are the heart beat of the Chapter. We hope to see you soon at the next gathering or event. Please mark your calendar; your team has been working hard on the Christmas party. The date is 19 th Jan 2019; location is 505 Washington Blvd. Williamsport, Pa (used to be Joey s Place). The flyer is attached; please fill it out and send the form in before 4 th Jan 2019 We have received the Pa District fund raising activity; it will be the Cash Calendar. There will be 28 winners during the month of February The numbers are based on the BIG FOUR Pennsylvania evening lottery number. Each ticket has two numbers on it which gives each ticket holder two chances to win. This is a great fund raiser for our Chapter; for every ticket sold our Chapter receives $1.25. If we sell all 250 tickets our chapter will receive $ With that said, please contact Carol Tanner to get your tickets. The only way we can sell them is if you have them in your hand. When you sit down and go over your activities calendar for 2019 with your family, see if you can fit in the Pennsylvania District Rally; 16, 17 and 18 May It s the Ride of the Roses. 4 On Sunday, October 21 st, Larry & I left home under cold, cloudy skies to meet the rest of the gang at Restless Oaks for breakfast. Joining us were Paul, Jim & Carol, Denny & Cindy, Dave & Sylvia, Bill & Jean and Reuben & Joyce. Everyone (except for Jim) came in bundled up like it was cold or something. There were quite a few who said they were hoping we would have cancelled, but none of them wanted to back out!! 2018 Fall Foliage Ride Sunday, October 21 st Once everyone had finished eating, we headed out to brave the cold and windy day. Ed and Puanani also joined us in the parking lot. Larry was subbing for Jeff as leader and we left with 6 trikes and 2 bikes. As we started up the mountain towards Snow Shoe, we began to see some of that white stuff that everyone hates to see flying around. We ended up seeing snow more than once and definitely saw more snow than fall foliage!! Although there was no color to speak of and it was colder than a you know what it was still a nice ride with a great group. You can call us crazy, but no one can call this bunch fair weather Wingers. Larry & I had another commitment in the afternoon, so we dropped the group off at the Black Forest Inn with Jim and Carol in charge of getting them back home. We can t tell you what happened at dinner, but I m sure it was a good time as always! 5 FROM THE DESK OF THE EDUCATOR Hi everyone: What s your favorite part about riding a motorcycle? Almost every rider will say the freedom that comes from getting out in the open air ranks high on their list-it s one of the essential parts of the riding experience that makes traveling the same road in a car and on a bike so much different. But come wintertime that open air can serve up a big challenge for riders, too keeping warm and dry. Wind and wet are both your enemies when it comes to staying warm. Staying warm isn t just a matter of comfort. Cold riders risk hypothermia and riding when you re hypothermic can be as dangerous as riding drunk; lack of coordination, slurred speech, confusion, poor decision making and drowsiness are all symptoms. So what to do about it? Luckily, most motorcycle clothing designed to provide abrasion protection is pretty good at providing wind protection as well. Now what can your bike do to help? Windshield: Tucking in behind one not only makes it more comfortable to sit upright, but the better designs keep you sitting in a still-air pocket, both for comfort and warmth. Body Design: Again, the better touring designs keep the wind off your lower body and legs, helping keep you both warmer and drier. Heated Grips: Electrically heated grips let you wear gloves that are thin enough for good control feel without compromising warmth and comfort. Active Heat: Most Gold Wing models offer heating ducts that channel warm air over the rider s feet. Your car has a heater why shouldn t your bike? Electric Clothing: You may have already purchased heated vests, jackets, gloves and chaps for your winter riding pleasure. In most cases your bike will have plenty of extra power available for these accessories. In closing, the Gold Wing with its windshield, body design and heat-venting system are all state of the art, and there s plenty of extra power available for your heated clothing. 6 FEATURED INVENTORY FROM YOUR PA DISTRICT DIRECTORS November 2018, where has the year gone? As I sit here today writing this letter it is snowing big heavy flakes. So, for many of us riding season is ending. We can all be thankful that we were able to get out and ride as much as we did during the 2018 riding season. This is a great time to think and plan for Many of us have calendar planning meetings with our chapter team or the Chapter Ride Coordinator and ride organizers are in the beginning stages of planning those FUN rides and events for next year. When you are making those plans for 2019, try to include as many chapter gatherings and chapter or district events that you can. Not only will your chapter have FUN but, you will continue to meet new people and renew friendships with people you may not have seen in a while. And remember to keep checking the PA District website for events it is constantly being updated. Leadership is key to your chapter. Please step forward and support your Chapter by filling an officer s position, Chapter Director, Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Ride Coordinator, Chapter Membership Enhancement Coordinator or become part of the chapter team. We would like to have officer change paperwork completed by the end of the month. Please keep in mind that each chapter needs leadership for it to continue. You have developed friendships and an extended family due to this organization. You have ridden, laughed and enjoyed each other s company by being part of GWRRA. Please support your Chapter by taking an office. The PA District raffle tickets have been distributed to your chapter. Please get them into the hands of your membership and people that will assist you in selling. Remember they make good Christmas gifts or stocking stuffers. They make a great thank you to a whole list of people who help and serve you such as your waiter/waitress, mail carrier, garbage collector, lawn mower or the person that removes snow. Your chapter could have a contest to encourage participants to sell the raffle tickets. Remember for evey ticket you sell you are helping your Chapter. Has your chapter considered hosting All Chapters East or All Chapters West? If you need any information or if your chapter is volunteering, please give us a call. It is a great fund raiser for the chapter and the event is FUN to host. Don t forget in your planning for 2019 to attend the PA District Rally Ride of the Roses, May 16-18, 2019 at the Wyndham Garden in York, PA. Make sure you take time to review the registration and get it in early if you plan on attending any of the special events; many of them have limited space. Don t forget to book your room at the hotel. Wing Ding 41 will be held in Nashville, TN at the Gaylord, August 27-31, The Gaylord is accepting reservations and can be reached at ; the room rate is $149/night and $10/day for parking. The 2019 Roll for the Dough Guidelines have been revised. Please make sure you read them and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Remember to always ride safe!
