1 LMDS - December News 2018 /HOLIDAY PARTY: There will be no classes from Wednesday, December 19, 2018 through Monday, January 1, es will resume on Tuesday, January 2, There are a few exceptions to these dates, so if you are involved in special classes/private lessons, please use your yearly schedule. Have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year! On December 12, 17, and 18, we will hold Holiday Party es. rs are invited to dress in holiday colors. We will incorporate some festive games/activities into class, but we will STILL WORK ON OUR DANCES/TECHNIQUE! We will not be serving treats and candy. If you would like to send a treat bag, or some other small gift for your child s classmates, you may do so. We will distribute any gifts at the end of class to take home. This is optional, and certainly is NOT necessary. COMPETITION UPDATES: SECRET DANCER ACTIVITY: Competition Team dancers will take part in a Secret r Activity in the month of December. We have simplified the activity this year. Each competition dancer should have received an inventory sheet at class last Monday. We also e- mailed out this information in case your child misplaced their paper copy, or they were absent. PLEASE BE SURE TO FILL OUT THE SURVEY/INVENTORY AND RETURN TO THE STUDIO by December 3 rd or 4 th! Once everyone in each class returns the inventory sheet, the dancers will draw the name of another dancer from their team. We are hoping to do this this week! Using the survey, we are asking each dancer to use the information about their teammate to select or make a gift for their Secret r. Gifts should be wrapped and brought to class on Monday, December 17 th or Tuesday, December 18 th for Topaz. PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR SECRET DANCER S NAME ON THE GIFT. Instead, you will reveal your identity at the party. Wrap the gift in a way that your Secret r will KNOW it is for them, based off the things they put on their survey. Ideas: use their favorite colors, tape favorite candy to the top, cut out and make a collage of their favorites for their wrapping paper, etc. ALL COMPETITION TEAM COLOR DAYS/PARTY DAYS will take place on DECEMBER th! Please note that normal choreography classes will still take place on Thursday, December 13 th. ALPHA HIP HOP TEAM MEMBERS purchase and prepare a wrapped $5 gift. Bring this gift to your class on Monday, December 17 th. Those who bring a gift, will take part in a gift exchange party game that evening to celebrate as a team. DECEMBER MASS ROUTINE PRACTICES: Remember there are TWO practices for mass routine this month (Dec 7 & 14) for all involved competition dancers. Teacher are working on the schedule for the 14 th and it will be ed separately (Keep 4-9 PM open). 2 COMPETITION TEAMS - AT HOME PRACTICE UPDATE: Remember that Competition Members are expected to be practicing choreography, as well as work on stretching/strengthening at home throughout the week. They should come to class each week ready to move on with choreography. If they are absent, we do expect then to get the choreography from a teammate to learn it before returning to class, so they are ready to move on with their team. If they can t attend a complete class, we ask that they still attend as much of a technique class as possible (leaving early/arriving late if necessary). We know there are a lot of concerts this time of the year, but do ask that you do your best! ONYX AND DIAMOND COMPETITION TEAM MEMBERS Members of the Onyx and Diamond Teams WILL BE EXPECTED TO HELP AT ALL THREE WINTER SHOWS ON JANUARY 19 th. We need these dancers to help put on a successful and organized Winter Show(s). Please mark your calendars accordingly, and plan to pack/send a snack for them since they will not have time to leave the school during the day! We will try to pick up some pizzas to share with them all to say thank you for helping! PRACTICE/VIDEOTAPE: As the winter show quickly approaches, we want to invite parents to videotape at the end of class time. This is a great way to make at home practice more meaningful and fun! Please encourage your children to practice their routines outside of class time. It is our goal to have each child know his/her dance(s) without the instructors. This is especially true for our older students! Recording the routine at your child s Holiday Party is STRONGLY encouraged so they can practice over our winter break. WINTER WEATHER: If school is canceled or dismissed early in the Monticello School District due to poor weather, we will most likely cancel dance classes for that evening. If in doubt you can always check our website at lucillemurraysstudioofdance.com, and check your . Please clean your feet on the rugs as you enter the building. With the upcoming winter snow, ice, salt, and yuck, we ask that the dancers place their boots/shoes on the trays below the hooks when they arrive to class each week. Please remind your children to use the hooks for their coats and other belongings as well. PARKING: Please use painted parking spots. These are public parking spots. The alley next to the Antique building and along the back of our building in the alley is private property. Thank you! TOY AREA: Please remember that the toy area is provided as a courtesy for our dance families. It is important that you pick up the area after your child has played there, and it is IMPERATIVE that you supervise your child when they use the play area. LMSD is not responsible for your child s care/safety. Parents MUST sit in the lobby area near the play area if your child is using it! Please do not allow children to run around, scream, and jump from furniture. This creates dangers and an uncomfortable environment for all our LMSD family members. COSTUME ORDERS/MAKE-UP/UNDERGARMENTS: ALL COSTUMES HAVE BEEN ORDERED. Several classes have arrived, and some have even been distributed. The rest are expected to arrive soon, or in January (after winter break). We will keep you updated. Please keep in mind that costumes often need minor alterations. It is very important that you prepare your child s costume for the first performance on January 19 th. rs should wear dance costumes to class on January 7-10 for a dress rehearsal AT THE STUDIO. Competition Teams should wear them to chorography night. Hair and make-up do NOT need to be done for this class. If you ordered a hair piece, we highly recommend that you put it in and secure it to your child s head for the dress rehearsal, so you can make any necessary adjustments for the performance day. Competition Team members using hairpieces NEED to wear their hairpieces to the dress rehearsal class. Parents should plan to attend a short meeting for the last 10 minutes of class on the dress rehearsal days to discuss the costumes/hair/etc. for the performance. This will give us the opportunity to answer any questions you may have as well. rs need to have MAKE-UP in the following colors for their performances: Shimmery taupe/beige eye shadow, pink blush, true RED lipstick, and black eyeliner/mascara. Make-up is intended to help make the dancers faces more visible on stage. Without make-up they become washed out and are more difficult to see in the bright lights. Parents of preschool dancers will need to use their judgment when deciding if they should apply eyeliner and mascara. We recommend using lip stain or color stay lipstick to avoid it from smearing and needing reapplication with young dancers. It then can be easily removed following the performance with make-up remover. COMPETITION TEAMS MAKE-UP: MANDATORY must order appropriate items from Yofi Kits and al la carte items are available. Use the LMSD links to avoid shipping costs (will be included in separate letter) Each competition team has different requirements. Find details on items and pricing in separate letter coming soon. Hip Hop and Contemporary Teams are included in make-up requirements. 2

3 RECREATIONAL MAKE-UP: Cost: $25.47 Order Deadline: December 16, 2018 Optional you may opt to purchase your own make-up (following color scheme given) This kit includes duo eye shadow, blush, and lipstick. You still need to purchase black eye liner and black mascara. Use this link to avoid shipping costs will ship to studio for pick-up. Other optional items and links for rec and competition dancers: Bun kit (includes bun form, hair nets, and very large/strong hair pins): Stick It (tacky roll on that is used to keep costumes in place): To ensure your child s safety and a finished look, please remember to make the necessary alterations to your child s costume PRIOR TO OUR DRESS REHEARSAL CLASSES. Also, remember to hang your costumes up and take good care of them. Some will need to be ironed with a low iron, steamed with a steamer, or hung in a steamy bathroom to release the wrinkles they acquired while they were packaged and shipped. This is especially true for the tutus. Please also find the appropriate undergarments to use with your child s costume. rs should wear skin colored underwear or wear tights without underwear. Older dancers should wear a SKIN COLORED BRA with CLEAR straps. We do have some skin colored leotards available at the studio, or you can contact Lucy about ordering the appropriate size if we do not have it in stock. One pair of COSTUME TIGHTS will be distributed to all dancers (except hip hop groups) and this pair is covered in the costume fee you paid. If you ordered extra tights in the fall, you should have already received those tights. If you need additional tights, please sign up on the tight sheet at the studio. They are $8 per pair for the footed tights (recreational classes). $10 per pair for stir-up that we use with certain competition teams and the 4 th -5 th and 6 th -12 th grade lyrical dances. MONTHLY PAYMENTS: Remember that all December monthly payments must be paid by December 14. Any balances due on accounts will be automatically processed on your card on file on December 15. All payments made after the 15 th will be considered late and your account will be charged a $15.00 late fee. Remember to include a completed payment stub with your payment if you turn it in at class. Generic stubs are located near the black payment box for your convenience. Your account must be up-to-date for your child to participate in the winter show. Please contact Lucy if you have any questions regarding your account, or you need to set up a payment plan. DANCE WARM UPS/DANCEWEAR/APPAREL: As the warm-ups, bags, and other LMSD apparel arrives, we will notify dance families via . In order to avoid ruining any surprises, we will package all items and put them behind the front desk for pick-up. The packages will be sorted into labeled boxes. Thank you! TICKETS TO THE WINTER SHOW ON JANUARY 19, 2018: Ticket Information for our Winter Show will be ed out soon! Tickets will go on sale: Monday, December 10 th at 8 AM Online Ticket sales will close: Friday, January 11 th at 11:59 PM After the on-line tickets close, you will need to wait and purchase tickets at the door. Advanced Ticket Price: $7.00 plus $1.74 in processing fees that go to Tutu Tix, and tax. TOTAL: $8.74 Day of Tickets: $9.00 TICKETS ARE ASSIGNED SEATING You will also find a sign-up sheet for Winter Show Volunteers. If you would like to help backstage with your child s class, you may sign up on the table at the studio. You will get to watch your child s performance, but not the rest of the show. If you are a mom volunteering backstage with a group, you DO NOT need a ticket. Since we do have our older competition dancers helping volunteer backstage during this show as well as parent volunteers, Please Note: THERE IS NO PRIORITY TICKET SALES FOR THE WINTER SHOW (However there will be for our spring recitals). Volunteering backstage is on a first come, first serve basis. 3

4 PRODUCTION NUMBER: We are in the process of planning our special session production number for the spring recital. This dance number will open ALL the spring recitals! rs in K-12 grade will be invited to participate in this special session. Practices will take place outside of your child s regular class. rs who wish to participate in this special session will owe additional class and costume fees. Watch for more details to come your way in January! COMPETITION UPDATES: In addition to the information in this December Newsletter, please be sure to carefully read the Competition Update Letter for details about make-up, hair, jewelry, follow-up shoe order, follow-up tight order, and more!
