1 March is Literacy Month Attention: Officers and New Members Saturday, March 28, :00 am 2:00 pm Natomas High School 3301 Fong Ranch Road Contact: President Elect, Heine Roikjer to register at Program: David Ogilvie, Winemaker Turned Into Brew Master David Ogilvie s life has always focused on agricultural. He was raised in Clarksburg and attended UC Davis majoring in viticulture and enology (winemaking). Following college David had the opportunity to travel around the world and learn more about the craft of wine making. After a couple years of travel, David settled in Atlanta, Georgia. There he started home brewing beer. He focused on creating his own versions of a Belgian style beer. In working on this hobby, David discovered that beer and wine have a lot of similarities. David returned to California and continued his studies through UC Davis Master Brewers extension program. Following his completion of the program, David went to work for Anheuser-Busch (AB) in Fairfield. David was promoted to Entry Level Brewing Manager and transferred to Williamsburg Virginia. Amongst his fellow young brewers, David was the only one who did home brewing. While with AB, David entered one of his Belgian beers in a company competition. His home brew won the entire contest a win which gained him notoriety within AB. David s creation became part of an AB market test against three other beers. Although his was not chosen, David was selected to create the recipe to match the final new product, Black Crown. David has discovered that it takes a lot of good beer to make good wine.
