1 February is Peace and Conflict Resolution/Prevention Month The Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento 67 th Anniversary Dinner Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Club Pheasant Contact Luan Christ - bobandluan@comcast.net for details LEV VEL Live Well with Rotary! Program: West Valley Chorus - Barbershop Quartet Chips from the Buzzsaw Weekly Newsletter of the Rotary Club of West Sacramento Volume 67, No 29 February 18, 2016 SPEAKER PROGRAM Entertainment for the 2/12 meeting was arranged by Paul Kolarik (International Service). The barbershop quarter, Berryessa Gold, is made up of founding members (from left to right) Frank Blakeman, Bob Hansen and Claude Rohwer who were joined by Don The Rookie Fish. Berryessa Gold was formed nine years ago and is part of the West Valley Chorus - a collection of quartets whose male membership ranges from years of age. New members are welcome with most living in the Davis/Vacaville corridor. To learn more visit Berryessa Gold will be singing the National Anthem at Raley Field in July - for the second time! Other common gigs for Berryessa Gold include nursing homes and care centers. Therefore, the quartet finds songs like Cool Water to be right in their wheelhouse. For the Modern Age fans, they will sing Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson songs. The song list for Friday s meeting included Let me Call You Sweetheart, which got the Rotary crowd going, along with several other favorites. It was a true Valentines Day celebration with songs dedicated to the amazing staff at Club Pheasant who help put the Mighty in the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento! 2 Rotary International Changing the World Through Service Mexico Trip Update Shorter Trip to Mexico Would a shorter trip to Tijuana enable you to go? Amor Ministries, our partner on the ground, now offers a 3-day build to small groups like us. Including travel, the trip would be about 4 5 days. The cost would also be less only about $250 or so. Please let Paul Kolarik ( , pesko@sbcglobal.net) know if you are interested. Thanks! Rotary SCHOLARSHIP Bell Ringers (Above) Past President Ken Wilson stood in as the fearless leader of the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento Friday. He couldn t help but enjoy the thrill of leading a Club meeting again. It seems like he may be throwing his hat in for another year of Presidency! (Below) Our own Dick Marshall enjoying a ravioli and the company of guest Michael Heede. Interviews for the Rotary Scholarships will be held 3/31 and 4/5 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Contact Ken Wilson to volunteer to interview potential scholarship winners. Heine Roikjer - Surviving Winter Rotary Meetings in Sweden! Charyl Silva - Thanking Randy Carlson for lending a helping hand for her mother s funeral. Babs Sandeen Tommy Bacon Aure'lien Delacroix Michael Heede OBJECT OF ROTARY The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the: ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her/ personal, business and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of service. Hey Barry, Yeah Jon, Is there something sort of celestial about us meeting here today, Jon, the flowers may be blooming beautifully, the light may have an effervescent quality and the harmony of the quartet may be lifting our spirits, but it seems to me to be just another Friday at the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento. She rolls six (6) dice, and keeps at least ne (1). Any that the player doesn't keep, are rerolled. This procedure is then repeated until there are no more dice to roll. The player must have kept a 1 and a 4, otherwise they are disqualified. If she has a 1 and 4, the other dice are totaled to give the players score. The maximum score is therefore 24.
