1 1 1 F E B R U A R Y 2015 IN THIS ISSUE "The best teamwork comes from men (people) who are working independently toward one goal in unison." -- James Cash Penney The value of teamwork was again emphasised last week with the success at the annual inter-school athletics held at Bridge House. It all started last year with time trials, the inter-house athletics at the beginning of the term and with the encouragement from the side of the track. Early morning training and afternoon sessions with different groups of athletes ensured success, again with the support from parents. At the Inter-school athletics all the individual events contributed to the overall total. Teamwork is one of the many values taught through sport. We do not require athletes to be similar, but to use their differences to achieve a common goal. I trust this teamwork will continue throughout the year. This must become the common thread that is recognised in whatever we do: practising, playing or organising. 2 TRAFFIC FLOW ON CAMPUS 1. The road between the Prep School and the Vineyard field is ONE WAY only and cars may not enter beyond the pedestrian crossing opposite the office of the Prep Student Development Unit. 2. All Pre-Preparatory and Junior Preparatory parents wishing to drop off or collect their children in close proximity to their classrooms are please to use the Ring Road. This means having to turn left at the pavilion after having entered the campus. 3. The busses also make use of the Ring Road and the children are dropped off at the bus stop outside the Prep hall. 4. Parents are welcome to make use of the drop and go in front of the prep admin building. The drop and go will continue as it has been in the past. 5. The following map has been included for your convenience. Somerset College Preparatory Newsletter 11 February 2015 Page 2

10 FAMILY FUN DAY Thank you very much to all those families who attended and participated in our Fun Day on Sunday, 8 February. It was a great success and the feedback has been positive. We are most grateful to our two main sponsors Spur and BOS, and ER24 who provided paramedic support. The parent organizing committee put in an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to ensure the success of this event; thank you for your time, energy and expertise. (Parent committee: James Beattie, Jan van Schalkwyk, Jason Eaglestone, Serge Foulon, Sean Harrison, Stuart Hunter, Frances Williams and Jackie Hunter). We are extremely grateful to our neighbours for allowing us to traverse their properties. What beautiful scenery the participants got to enjoy! This was not a school fund raiser, but the good news is that it did make a small profit. Entries were limited, so if you missed the cut off this year, please get in early next year to avoid disappointment. We will increase the number of entrants next year. We will notify you in the fourth term when online entries open so don t miss out!
