And I don't want to forget those members I called to help with various projects upcoming, a BIG THANKS to all of you. What kind of events would you would like to see or places for a Happy Hour; we'll know the answers to those questions only if YOU ask them! Competition Bernie Resch First, I'd like to thank Dale Kilpatrick and Stacy Confer for the great job they did selling T- shirts/hats and raffle tickets at Winter Sports Night (and putting up with me bossing them around). The Race Team table was busy all night, and people really liked the new FDSC T-Shirts and hats. We already ran out of some sizes and hat colors, so get yours SOON before they are GONE! I'll bring them to future meetings. Price: $25 for the combo or $15 for just a hat or T-Shirt. The Christmas cash raffle is paying out $600 in cash this year. First Price will be $180!!! Get your tickets until the Christmas party. On Dec 9-11 we'll have the first races of the season. ASRA openers are at Killington on Friday and Saturday is GS and Slalom on Sunday. As always there will be some Dutchmen attending, so if you want to carpool or share lodging, let me know and we'll try to arrange things. Also you might have noticed, the race team web page is (was) under construction. We want to get it upto-date and give it a new look. It's more work than I thought, so please be patient. One thing that is updated is this year's race schedule. So get your skis ready, it's time to have some fun! Auf geht's, Bernie Volkl shaped skis with bindings - 170, $50 or make offer, Dorothy Meyer Congratulations to Kathy and Monte Jacobs on the birth of a little girl, Giavanna Naomi, on November 2.

3 Lodge Ed Soja Happy Holidays! Another holiday season marking the end of another year. I can't help but think of my fond holiday memories growing up as a kid. Especially the year my family and I went on a sleigh ride. It was a silent night, a holy night. All was calm. All was bright. The only sound was the jingle bells, jingle bells, jingling all the way. Oh what fun it was to ride on a one horse open sleigh. O'er the fields we went, laughing all the way. Until we saw grandma get run over by a reindeer. It's always funny till someone gets hurt. I was a little upset about Grandma. So my Dad called me over and said, oh come oh come Emmanuel, (Dad never could get my name straight) Tis the season to be jolly. Fa la la la la la la la la. I think Dad had a drinking problem. Later that evening, we sat around roasting chestnuts on an open fire. Jack Frost was nipping at our nose. Uncle Jack had a little too much to drink too. We shared with one another what we wanted for Christmas. All I wanted for Christmas were my two front teeth. My two front teeth. See, my two front teeth. Apparently Mom wanted a little more, cause I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe that night. She didn't see me creep down the stairs to have a peep. She thought that I was tucked up in my bedroom fast asleep. Then I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus underneath his Well let's just say Santa looked pretty jolly, if you know what I mean. Just when I thought the holidays couldn't get any worse, I woke up later that night to find all our toys and decorations missing. In fact, everyone in town had their things stolen too. It seems, the old Grinch who lived up in the hills, had stolen Christmas. Apparently he needed the money for a heart transplant. Some say his heart may have been two sizes too small. But, the people in town endured. They all gathered around, where the town Christmas tree once stood, and started singing some stupid song. There were a lot of people there. But I can't remember who they were. A detective came by and took statements from everyone. When finished, he sprang to his car, to some girl gave a whistle. But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight, Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night! Ah, good times. Good times! Just think of all the memories you can share and create up at the lodge. Book your reservation today! Ski you at the lodge, Ed We ll leave the light on for you. Membership Holly Trout Membership cards were mailed November 1st. If you have not received your card, please call or e- mail me ( or membership@fdsc.org). Printed on the back of your membership card is a logo that says we are a Member Club of the Eastern Pennsylvania Ski Council and the National Ski Council Federation. Please check this edition of Ski Trails and the website ( to see the benefits we get from being a Member Club of these organizations. Thanks to all of you who completed the questionnaire when you renewed your membership or 61% completed it! Mark Dolinski won the $50 cash-drawing prize at Winter Sports Night. Thank you all for your feedback; we greatly appreciate it! We will be posting results from the completed surveys in Ski Trails and on the website. We will do our best to use your feedback to make the club the best it can be! I wish you all a very merry Christmas! Holly Publicity Director Diane Ferro 'Tis the skison to be jolly! At a recent jolly (happy) hour, I noticed that it's becoming a family event. Claude and Debbie were there with their daughter, Rick was with his daughter, and Brian was with his parents. They say that a family that plays together (and now drinks together) stays together. Several of our events do not require membership, so consider bringing a family member, co-worker, or friend so they can see that we're all about the fun. Membership would make a great holiday gift, as well as a ticket to Winter Carnival or a lesson package. If your friends and family are members, consider what our advertisers are offering: snow sports equipment/apparel, chiropractic care, condo rental, or a house. There's a small or large gift to fit everyone on your list. Happy Holidays to all! Diane Thanks to all who donated towards the Nov. FDSC Blood Drive at Pinnacle Sports. 9 Mr and Ms Flying Dutchmen Election on December 1 We were honored to be voted as Mr. and Ms. Flying Dutchmen for It's a great recognition of our contributions for FDSC. As we prepared for this year's nominations and program, we decided to write this article about what it means to serve as Mr. and Ms. Flying Dutchmen and the history of the election. Mr. and Ms. Flying Dutchmen nominees are active members who have volunteered their time to various club functions and have assisted in leadership capacities. As club ambassadors, they promote FDSC. Did you know this contest/award has changed throughout the years? The Ms. Flying Duchess contest started in 1962 and resembled a beauty contest (complete with a dozen roses for the winner). Nominees participated in a fashion show and would solicit votes with signs and cards at the meetings. Prizes for the winners were extensive; in fact, one Ms. Flying Duchess said she became a better skier as a result of the lessons and ski opportunities she won in the contest! Ms. Duchess would then represent the FDSC at the Eastern PA Council Snow Queen contest and was quizzed on skiing codes! In typical Dutchmen fashion, the men wanted to get in on the action and in 1979 the Mr. Dutchmen award began. In contrast to the beauty pageant, the guys decided to mock the ladies' contest and their theme was make a fool of yourself (remember The Gong Show?). In fact, the first Mr. Dutchmen said the dumbest sh** won! As you can imagine, this was a popular event. Here are a few examples of the men's outlandish exhibitions: A boxer wearing a robe with toilet paper hanging out of his shorts (to symbolize getting the sh** kicked out of him). He entered the meeting with his back to the members and didn't show his face as he performed a boxing/dance routine. One emcee imitated Flip Wilson's Geraldine character. The unknown comedienne appeared with a paper bag covering his face. One nominee imitated Tarzan on skis by wearing only a loincloth and a pair of wood skis fashioned out of wooden strips from a barrel (he fell during the activity). One member accessorized his Speedo with a fur coat and another wore a cape with his Speedo. The Gong Show format was used during one program. A ski school director imitated Father Guedo Sarduchi at a program. The highlight/lowlight of one program was one nominee's mooning of the crowd. One past President painted a face on his stomach, donned a stovepipe hat, and performed as a dancing face! We're looking forward to a fun program for this year's election on Thursday, December 1st. Karen Youngwirth and Scott Boyer Nominees are: MR FLYING DUTCHMEN ED SOJA - very positive club member - has done an excellent job as a board member especially doing more outside the scope of his position BERNIE RESCH - has organized lots of activities for the race team - great board member - keeps everyone focused to make decisions - enthusiastic ERIC CONFER - served on the board for several years - ran trips to Europe & Wildwood - ticket voucher sales person - helps at many events NEAL KLINE - takes pictures for the club for the website - has helped Sheila with many Wildwood Trips and Irish Wakes - helps at other events - hosts parties at the river for FDSC members at his own expense JEFF RAPP - has been on the board for 4 terms - helps with events - very enthusiastic about the club and helps with new members - has helped with many events - tells jokes!!
