President Rick Auchenbach Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season. Now it s time to hang your 2010 calendar on the refrigerator and start the New Year. With the 50th Anniversary behind us, I thought activities and events would slow down, but that s not exactly been the case. Here are a few examples The Lesson Program begins Tuesday, January 5th, at Bear Creek and continues for 6 additional weeks. The Instructional Trip to Greek Peak, NY, takes place the weekend of January 8th - 10th. There s always room for more students in the Lesson Program, but I believe the Instructional Trip is full. These are both excellent ways to improve your skiing and boarding. We hope to see you there. Check the ski calendar and the website for discount skiing opportunities. This is a great FDSC benefit and a smart way to ski on a budget. We can all appreciate that in a down economy. Remember to take advantage of a Bear Creek Season Pass. There is one tailored to our Lesson Program, offering a 7-lift ticket package deal. This is cheaper than the ski club discount voucher and saves the club money at the same time. (Our club subsidizes the $17 Lesson Nights, as well as other discount skiing nights.) See the FDSC website for more details about this and numerous other Ski Club benefits. Our club charity, Relay for Life, has numerous events on the 2010 calendar. Two happening in ski season are Las Vegas Night on Saturday, January 23rd, at The Riveredge, and Carving Out Cancer at Bear Creek on Tuesday, February 16th. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Please come out and support these charitable events. Think Snow Ski Safely, Rick TRIPS 2010 Greek Peak, NY, Inst. 5 Competition Nancy Brandi Happy New Year 2010 and glad to be done with the last six months of 2009! Let s move on to a better year ahead and a fresh start that will bring the Dutchmen families many laughs and memories to share. Killington race camps happened in early Dec. and hopefully our club members who attended were shined upon by the VT Snow Gods I know from past experience that those who attended worked hard all day on snow with their race coaches and played equally hard après skiing. Can you say Wobbly Barn??? New this racing season, we have the talented Diane Roffe to do race clinics for our interested racing FDSC members. The clinics will be offered on snow at Bear Creek on Tuesday nights Jan. 5th and 26th. Tentative time is 6 to 8pm. Feb. dates, TBA. The cost for this premier race clinic will be posted on our website. You will not want to miss this opportunity to be coached by a Gold Medal Olympian! For the family that skis together, don t forget that ASRA offers racing to all ages and all levels of abilities. Great way to spend the weekend together. Jan. races for ASRA are the 2nd & 3rd at Tangelwood and then Jan. 9th & 10th at Elk Mtn. We have rooms available at the FDSC lodge if you need accommodations. Don t forget that the local Nastar courses are a great way to tune up for the more competitive races. You can find plenty of fun at Blue Mtn. on Sundays and Thursdays, Bear Creek on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and Roundtop on Friday nights and weekends. For complete schedules, please review the mountains websites. Please keep in mind that any new information concerning racing events will always be posted on our own FDSC website. You ll find current events, awards earned by our race team members, and helpful answers to those ski tuning questions SAVE THE DATE: Feb.28th, EPSC Council Cup Race (FDSC needs your support!) 9 Social Director Debbie Pasquale Who s Got The Fun? By now the food is gone, the family has left, and the gifts have been returned so what do we do now? We SKI!! The lesson program has begun and the first trip of the year, the Instructional Trip, leaves this weekend and is headed to someplace new, Greek Peak! I for one cannot wait to get out there and try the new boots. Watch out people, I ll be tearing up the slopes this year! The Japan and Lake Placid trips leave this month, too. Another January event will be our first ever Las Vegas Night to benefit the Relay for Life Team on Saturday, January 23rd, at River Edge. Tickets in advance are $20 and $25 at the door. All tickets include $500 in "play money." There will also be a Chinese Auction. The doors open at 6:30 and games are from 7-10 with the Chinese Auction from There will be food available and a cash bar. Real money only!! See Patti or a Relay for Life committee member for tickets or information. So where does that put us? February, of course, with more trips, more lessons, and hopefully snow! Check out the web site for discount ski days/nights, bump clinics, and lesson information. Do you want to do something different this season? Why not try racing? You don t have to be good; you just have to make it down the hill. In fact, I ve been asked to race this year so you know you don t have to be good to race. See Nancy Brandi or a race team member for information. Don t forget, we accept new members all year, so get out there and chat up the club and start recruiting! We ve Got The Fun!
